Big Day of Cleaning!

Today is a big day. Kids are at school then off to after school care. You wonder what I will be doing? I am leading a glamorous life and of course I will be cleaning, scrubbing and doing housework!

The house needs a spruce up before the weekend. The twins have their birthday on Saturday and we might have family and friends drop by. Due to this and of course being flat out have a clean house might be a good idea.

cleaning cleaningmaid

I think after I calm down from the big week I might need to have them in care again so that I can spend my time doing something I like.

A bubble bath? Spending my gift vouchers at the shops? Sleeping? Working on the blog?

A maid would make things easy, but due to no funds to pay a maid I am her currently! Yes not ideal but cheaper.

Wish me well and I hope I get a lot done.

Stay tuned for more about this years birthday party for the girls.

Icy Shower

Today it has been freezing! Yesterday there was warmth in the air and a hint of what is to come. Summer and holidays! However today it seems like we have hit another cold snap. Black dark clouds hovered over us after I picked up the girls from school. We had to get Weet-Bix from the store or else there would be issues in the morning and when we exited the skies errupted with hail. Little balls of ice, and it bucketed down. It did not last for long.

Did you get a big down pour of rain? Was it hail? I have heard some people got snow. Yes snow! I suppose that is no surprise. Two years ago in October we got the biggest dump of snow in ten years here. So anything is possible. Snow in Spring. Hail in spring. Maybe it might happen in summer? Only time will tell.

The only thing that made it all worth it was that the store had Weet-Bix. Imagine making your way in a hail storm to find they had none.

It has been snowing. See the article from the Sydney Morning Herald.

So Happy Spring is Here

Today is a lovely day and as my last post we have had a couple of weeks of constant rain and bad weather. I have been hanging for sunshine, blue skies and better weather all round.

First Day of Spring - 1st Sept 2014
First Day of Spring – 1st Sept 2014

The twins were super happy that it is Spring as their birthday is in two weeks, and are very excited. In their class today they are changing the calendar to show that it is September and now spring. Also they will tell the class that two children have their birthdays this month, and they are my girls. I am amazed that the girls are the only kids who have their birthday in September for their class.

Pink Flowers in our backyard
Pink Flowers in our backyard

It has been getting warmer and warmer and had the hint of spring in the air. Even my garden thinks it was spring before it was. These pink flowers don’t usually bloom until spring but have been out for the last couple of weeks. The same goes for the blossom trees and other flowers. I just hope that they stay out for a bit longer as we usually love to sit under the tree to enjoy the flowers and colour. However with the rain it has not been possible.

Now the tidy up of the backyard and house begins as it is a big clean out that needs to happen and a tidy up due to the kids having a party in a couple of weeks. We are having it in a park but relatives will come over to the house for a tea and catch up.

I am hoping that you are having lovely weather where you are for the first day of spring. Enjoy!

Bring On The Sunshine!

Rain be gone! Bring us sunshine and blue skies. Image courtesy of worradmu at FreeDigitalPhotos.net

31st of August: Woke up to Blue skies and sunshine. Maybe the post helped???

Today was forecast to be sunny. Well it said it was supposed to be after lunch time. Do you think this happened? NO it did not. It is cold, overcast, cloudy and yes still raining. It has been raining for the last week or so. Nonstop rain! We did need some rain but I am now over it and the weather can now turn sunny and warm.

Not only will the sunshine and nice weather help with doing laundry and airing out the house. It will also allow me to be outdoors to have a walk and experience the nice weather (when it does happen) and hopefully take the kids to the park. Being cooped up inside is very annoying for kids and also adults. Some vitamin D will be nice to get once the sun allows it.

My other frustration with the weather is that the twin’s birthday is in two weeks’ time and we are having it at the park. If it is raining a party at the park will not do. Might have to look at a wet weather alternative. Monday is the start of spring and I am  hoping that this will trigger some nice spring type weather. Well I can hope can’t I?

I did manage to take the kids to the park yesterday after school. The sun was out very briefly and I thought if I did not pounce on this opportunity I would regret it. I was right. Kids had a great time at the park and we ended up crashing one of their friend’s birthday parties, although they did not mind I felt terrible as we were just off to the park and had no idea that they were having a party there. As we had a fabulous time at the party the girls have picked out a nice present for their friend and will wrap it and give it to her for Monday.

On the day of the party we have a 75% chance of rain… this is a concern! I will call around and see what I can organise for a plan b. However invites have been sent out so changing the venue might be an issue. There is still time if this needs to happen.

Have you planned a party in a park or somewhere outdoors, to then have it rain for weeks beforehand? Did you get worried and organise a plan b that is undercover? Let me know what you organised? Did the weather behave itself and you were lucky in the end?

Falling from the floor

Kids are sitting playing on the floor and then in the next minute there is screaming, crying and they are hurt. I race in and try and understand what had happened.

Beware the dangerous floor. Image courtesy of David Castillo Dominici at FreeDigitalPhotos.net
Beware the dangerous floor. Image courtesy of David Castillo Dominici at FreeDigitalPhotos.net

After they calm down a bit I finally find out they have fallen over. YES, fallen while they were sitting on the floor. HOW DOES THIS HAPPEN? Cut legs, hurt feet and bruises. I really don’t get how they can get so hurt from sitting down? Does this happen to you?  This has been happening for years now and it is still making me scratch my head to understand how it happens.

I don’t know if my kids are a talented lot, or if this is something that all kids do? Do your kids manage to fall over when on the floor? What a talented feet have they mastered that they still manage to hurt themselves. I know it is not a skill that is a good thing to have.

I am still at a loss to explain how it happens. Do you have any insight into this? Can you explain why they can fall so close to the floor already? It really is a mystery. Send in your comments.

Slow Start Monday

Happy Monday to you all. Yes another week is upon us. I am still fighting a cold and feel very tired. It does not help that it is a perfect day for staying in bed. If I had no kids or no reason to leave the house I might have just stayed in bed and still be there. However I had to get kids off to school, pick up a parcel from the post office and more.

Super tired this Monday. Image found on Pinterest.
Super tired this Monday. Image found on Pinterest.

Due to being under the weather there is a lot of housework to do…now I must go and sort some laundry or people might not be happy as they will not have undies and socks and that will of course not make other family members have a smile or like me much at all.

I have had my coffee late and have caught up on who won the room reveal for the block last night. Now I can look at the news. I hate finding out who won and I have not yet watched the show.

Clothes sorting is about to happen….. what job are you dreading or not wanting to do today?  Are there several. I do have a few but the clothes one is the major one at the moment.

Have a great Monday and hope you get some things done or have a rest if that is what is on the agenda.

Goodbye Robin

Robin Williams as Mork from Ork
Robin Williams as Mork from Ork

I have not posted for a while as I have been ill. Yes fighting a bad cold and it has made me want to curl up and not get out of bed, but I am soldiering on. However I was moved to write this about my beloved childhood actor that I just adored and still do.

I grew up with Robin Williams. I watched him on Happy Days, then, Mork and Mindy and of course in all his films and anything that he was in I would race off and see. I was even lucky to get tickets so that hubby and I could see him when he came to Sydney a couple of years back. I was so keen to see him no matter how much it cost. I idolised him and thought him wonderful as a kid. I still do even as an adult.

I was driving back from the kid’s school on Tuesday (12th August) morning and on the news it told me that he had died. NO! NO! NO! He cannot be dead. It cannot be true! But it was. How sad! How Horrible! Has the world gone mad??? This cannot be right? But it was! It was true and it was real! I was in tears and have been for a while every time I think about how magical he was and what a talent he possessed.

I cannot begin to imagine the pain and upset his family and close friends are going through, it must be horrible. I never knew him but I hoped to one day meet him. Yes it sounds strange but I had this belief that one day I would meet him. This will never be now, but I am grateful that I got the chance to see him live and experience what it is like to see my childhood favourite actor live.

There has been much outpouring of grief and upset on learning of the passing of Robin. I am not the only one that stars off in disbelief at the idea that this has happened. It is not what I expected would happen. I did know that he struggled with depression. If only he could see the world sending their love to him and honouring him for who is was and his work. What a pity he is not here to see how much he was adored.

My girls wondered why I was upset. I told them that a much loved actor who I adored had died. They were upset to learn who he was as they loved his films also. They think he is the man that invented Flubber. I did have to explain. The twins still think he is connected to Flubber! I now have sourced some copies of Mork and Mindy and now the kids are addicted as much as I was at their age.  I have kids who want to drink with their finger, sit on their heads and both are now saying Nanu-Nanu and Shazbot! A job well done I say.

Not only have we lost Robin Williams we also mourned the loss of Lauren Bacall. Yes it has been a very sad week indeed.

Many articles are coming to light saying that Robin did not want to do movies as they drain him too much. This in turn does not help the depression. I had no idea. I knew that he got very involved in his characters and of course that would be draining but did not think that he would get terribly depressed afterwards. Also these articles are pointing to money troubles and concerns and that could have led to the depression. I just want to put it out there: You will never ever know why someone did something. I don’t want to assume anything as it is not my place. Just because he is a public figure does not mean that we can analyse every last detail of his life.

I have also been upset to learn of horrible people sending terrible images and taunts to Robin’s daughter Zelda. How awful, and disgusting of this trash to do this to someone who is grieving for her father. I am so sorry Zelda that is has happened and I hope these kids or losers get their accounts removed permanently. Why can’t people just leave others alone in times like this? Respect people! If only Robin knew about this I am sure he would have done something to make the rotters pay! Karma is a bitch and I hope it catches up with them.

We need to respect his family and just honour who he was as a person. I had no idea that Robin gave all the money from his stand up throughout New Zealand to the government so that they could rebuild Christchurch after the earthquakes. What a lovely thing to do. What a generous and loving thing to do!  Williams also helped his good mate Christopher Reeve out after his accident. What a great friend.

I would like to thank you Robin Williams for lighting up my life, making me laugh and being a lovely person that everyone in the world wanted to be. Thanks so much. I am sorry you are not here anymore and I hope that you are in a better place.

Love your number one fan. Suzanne.

Knitting Dolls

Did you have a Knitting Nancy or knitting doll as a kid? I did. When I lived in Townsville we went to the boat club for their annual Christmas party. Santa Claus arrived by helicopter and presented all kids there with a gift. I got a Knitting Nancy and loved it!

This is the Knitting Nancy I had as a child.
This is the Knitting Nancy I had as a child.

I had to drop the kids off early at school to be home at a certain time to work on things. Due to the twins being early for class they have taken to going to the library to look at books and to colour in. One of the teachers gave Julia a home made knitting doll well, not really a doll but more of a version with a toilet roll holder and paddle pop sticks. She is loving it. She is now taking her knitting everywhere and has announced to hubby that she is going to make him a scarf.

Julia's knitting. She has done such a great job so far.

Look nearly poking out of the holder. Julia is very proud of the fact that she is creating more and more each time. Daddy will have a scarf soon.

Both kids seem very interested in knitting and this technique to create things. I have ordered both kids a wooden doll knitter and in fact they are Fairy Knitting Dolls below that I have purchased from Gumnut Toys

These are the fairy knitting dolls that I have orderd for the twins. Cannot wait till they turn up!
These are the fairy knitting dolls that I have ordered for the twins. Cannot wait till they turn up!

As the above images have shown you can do this type of knitting without any fancy tools or devices. You can make your own. I love this. I searched the internet and found a great DIY Post from Heidi from Hands Occupied. She gives a great guide on How to create a DIY Knitting Loom & Knit with it.

Have you created one of these DIY looms/knitting dolls? I am amazed that Julia is getting such joy doing this knitting and task. She is learning a new skill and creating something at the same time. Her sister also is keen and has given it a go. I loved my Knitting Nancy as a kid. I created such wonderful creations, mainly big snakes. What have you created or remember you made with yours?

With many children sitting and watching screens these days, doing something with your hands and creative is a great idea. I hope that I can remember how to work the knitting fairies when they turn up. I also had no idea that the girls would love doing this. I thank the teacher at the school for giving the girls something to keep them busy, creative and a new skill to learn.

Julia loves it and is even taking her knitting to bed to do it before she falls asleep. So cute to watch really. Such a fussy pot now with her knitting and no one can touch it. I secretly took the pictures of her knitting and have put it back carefully in the bag in her room. Yes I don’t want to get into trouble!

What have your kids tried that you did as a kid? I think that this type of toy is timeless. What are your thoughts?

First Kindy Parent Teacher Meeting

Kids working away with big pencils. Image courtesy of stockimages / FreeDigitalPhotos.net
Kids working away with big pencils. Image courtesy of stockimages / FreeDigitalPhotos.net

Today I have a meeting with the twins teacher. Yes my first parent teacher meeting for Kindy. I am so excited to hear what the teacher has to say about the girls. I am interested to see what differences there are between them if any with their schooling.

About a week ago we got the girls first report card. I had no idea kindy kids got one but I suppose they are in primary school so it is to be expected. Hubby and I were so proud of our little girls. They have done so well. They got marked HIGH for everything!

I do hope that the teacher just does not say they are doing well here, and good here and this and that. I would like to know what the teacher is noticing are their strengths. This might be hard to establish this early on and especially in kindy. I would like more detail in the reports and to know more about how well the child is going, not just some sentence that does not tell me anything. Do you find that you are not really learning much from the schools?

Near the end of term 1 we got a print out of how the kids went with their best start assessment. However this print out was a guide on how to do things at home and what to start and do. It let me know what they looked at but did not tell me where my child is in this list. Is my kid on target? Is my child learning well? I was hoping it would pin point where you were placed with numeracy and literacy before the start of school. Detail it in a graph or percentage if you want, just give parents some indication of where your child is placed in their learning.

If you know where your child needs more help then you can address this at home. I did mention this with another mother and she said if my kids were having any issues the teacher would have a meeting with me during term to discuss. No meeting has been arranged so I assume all is good. Now with the High listings on the reports and the glowing feedback I am sure the girls are doing very well.

I am not one to think that just due to my kid having a good report that whatever my kid does will be golden. I would like to be a fully informed parent and understand if my child needs help in an area that I can address and give the attention it needs. I would hate to find out at a later stage that I did not know something was wrong and could have been corrected if I only knew about it.

So I am excited to go to the school and see all the work that the teacher has kept for each child throughout the year. The girls are super keen to show mummy all their work and to have their teacher tell me how good they are.

Do you find that reports now are not giving you any information? Do you want more? Is it just me? When I was at school reports told you all things, the bad, the good and the excellent. Reports years ago were sometimes rude, but some were to the point and you understood what the teacher was telling you. I don’t want to have bad things said about someone but if you need to have more attention on maths, or reading then it is a good idea to list that. Right?

Let me know your thoughts. Send in your comments.

Reading With Kids Has A Big Impact

Do you read to your kids? Do your children love books and want to know how to read? The twins have been desperate to learn ever since they understood what a book was. Hubby and I of course have read to them since birth and we make sure we impart the love of books and what reading well can do for you in life.

In a recent study it has shown that if you grow up with a lot of books, get read to and of course love books it will have a big impact on a child starting school and their performance at school. I know this might not be a surprise to some but of course if you are surrounded by books and your parents love reading it might flow onto your children. Mostly it does. Of course you might say that people who have more time or more money can do more for their kids and that might be so.

Sam and Bingo. Level 3 reader. Story by Jenny Giles and Illustrations by Pat Reynolds.

However this is not so…. according to Professor Walker it does not matter if you are well off or not. As long as you read to your child and show an appreciation for books it is all good. (Well that is good to know. I am still working on getting the mansion, the yacht and the city abode. I still have time…. but not liking my chances)

“Professor Walker said that if a parent placed a high value on literacy, as shown by the number of books they had, they would read to their child regardless of their socio-economic status.” (Essential Baby, 1st June, 2014)

The girls have come on with their reading very well. It might have something to do with of course being surrounded by books. We have a bookshelf just for them and they take books out and pretend to read them but mostly look at the pictures and play. I end up coming in and finding piles of books that need to be put back into the bookcase.

Since the twins started kindy they have now progressed to level 3 readers. Some kids are on that level, some not, and some on higher levels. All fine and doing well for them. It is great that the school sees how well the individual child is doing and progresses them so that they keep learning and don’t get bored.

We have had issues of one child doing well and upsetting the other. This has caused an issue on her confidence with reading. I have made sure that I have told the child in question that she is reading very well and there is nothing wrong. All she needs to do is to just practice and it will all work itself out.

Sam and Bingo. Level 3 reader. Story by Jenny Giles and Illustrations by Pat Reynolds.
Sam and Bingo. Level 3 reader. Story by Jenny Giles and Illustrations by Pat Reynolds.

If you have twins have you found that one twin was excelling at something and the other twin was upset with the success? How did you cope? All I have done is make sure to say that both are doing an excellent job, and find ways to give big praise to good work for the kid that is doing well and the other that is doing well also. It is hard. Especially when you are faced with very competitive children. They always have to be doing well and get upset when they don’t. Are your twins like this?

According to the Essential Baby article:

“Being read to often increases a child’s vocabulary and enjoyment, and requires them to pay attention and remain engaged.”  (Essential Baby, 1st June, 2014)

So make sure that you are reading to your child every day. It does not need to be at night time. Just make some time for you and your little one to have some time together and read a book. The kids are at the stage now for me to show them more words in books that I am reading. I put my finger on the words like they do with their school readers. This way they know what word is what. Hopefully next time they will reconigse it and it will be easier to read it on their own.

The kids learn to read differently than I did. It is all about sight words. Knowing these sight words by heart so that they are able to read simple books. The sight words are common words like, and, this, I, me and so on. Once the child understands these words reading a simple book and starting at stage 1 these books are very basic but that is fine. You gotta start somewhere. I am also teaching the kids to sound things out, phonetically like the way I learnt to read. Yes I know it is not like the sight words way.

Sounding out words is helpful as it allows the child to figure out a word themselves. I have done it a bit now and have noticed that the twins are doing it more and more.

I also volunteer to do school reading at the school. When the kids read their readers they put their fingers on each word and the text is aligned to their sight words. They have been told to look at the picture to help them understand the story and it is a good idea to look at the book before you read it so they have an idea of what it is about. I hear a group of kids read and make sure that all is correct and they are doing well. In my group I of course have the twins but other kids as well. All of the kids are doing very well and are all at different levels.

Having a chat to the teacher is also a good move if you are worried or think that all is good and the child in question just needs some motivation. I was saying all great things but as soon as it came from the teacher it meant more. Give it a go and see!

Sam and Bingo. Level 3 reader. Story by Jenny Giles and Illustrations by Pat Reynolds.

Do your kids pile up books in their beds like mine? Do they leave their night lights on wanting to read all night? Mine do. I suppose that is a good sign. Although it is hard to turn off a light when it is on the top bunk. To do this I need to climb up and over a kid to turn off the light.

I suppose it is just good they love books and are doing well. Let us know how it is in your household.

First Stitch

Thursday the kids and I were at the school playground. It was like any other day, kids climbing, getting dirty and doing things they cannot do during the school day. Then Julia hurt herself. Yes I just thought she grazed or scratched herself but it was not to be.

She was climbing a fence and when she was coming down a piece of it ripped into her arm. She was the proud owner of a little hole and as you can imagine she was crying and screaming. I took one look at it and thought we needed to get stitches and with that she freaked out even more!

Lillian told us to go to sick bay but as school was closed so was sick bay and no one was there. I did not think sick bay was the answer and we all made a dash to the medical centre that is around the corner from the twins school (thank god for this)

Julia showing where she had her first stitch. Brave girl.
Julia showing where she had her first stitch. Brave girl.

We arrived and they looked after us immediately. The doctor looked at Julia’s arm and instantly said, “Yes it needs stitches”. So glad we were there and I trusted my instinct about what was needed to help my little girl. I was also grateful that I was there to look after her and have the ability to be there for the twins. I suppose if I was working I would have got a call to come get her or to meet them at the doctors practice. Either way I would have been there.

It was a drama with a screaming kid and all she could scream at the top of her lungs, was, “NO, NOT, NO, NO, NO, NOT, NOT, NO!” “I TOLD YOU I DON’T WANT A NEEDLE, NO NEEDLE!”
The doctor managed to give her a needle to numb her arm to allow him to do the stitches. This was hard to get her to stay still but we managed.

And now for the stitches! The nurse, doctor and I told Julia to look at me while the stitches were done and to not look. This of course made her look and freak out a bit. The numbing of the arm did help as she was a bit calmer after the contents of the needle worked their magic.

Then after the stitches were done a bandage was put over the top to make sure they would stay in place. We have to go back to get them out. Unfortunately they are not the dissolving kind. I hope that this goes well when we see the doctor next time.

During this drama, Lillian was very kind to her sister. On our mad dash to the doctors she made sure to check driveways for cars and made sure she held her sisters hand. While I was with Julia, Lillian was helping the receptionist and office manager at the practice and allowed me to be with Julia who needed me. What a lovely sister and daughter. Very proud of both my little girls. Julia was such a brave girl and I liked that Lillian stepped up to look after her sister.

I must say the ordeal was exhausting, draining, and upsetting for me the mother. I was glad I was there and thankful that she just cut herself rather than breaking a bone or something else terrible. The event took me a while to calm down from and I suppose anyone can agree, seeing your child scream and in pain is not fun.

Has any of your children/child had to get stitches? Did they do one better and brake an arm? Was it a major drama getting to help and dealing with the child that is in pain? I am sure it would be no matter how minor it does appear after. Julia is fine and next week we go to get the stitches removed. I am not looking forward to it but will be relived once they are out and she does not need them anymore.

Let us know what happened to you. Were you on edge afterwards? I found a nice red wine helped after we were home. I must say the next day I was still a bit out of sorts. Has this happened to you?

Birthday Eve Thoughts

Wising myself a very happy birthday
Wising myself a very happy birthday

Tomorrow is my birthday and yes I will officially be another year older. Since today is birthday eve it has been a time of reflection. I am a bit sad about some things that I hoped to have done or completed and other things I am very happy with. So what are they?

Things I am pleased with:

  • The twins are very happy with school and doing very well.
  • Due to the kids being at school it gives me more time to get things done. Very nice indeed, and makes for a much calmer and happier mummy.
  • Happy that family are well and happy.

Things that I am not too pleased with:

  • I wanted to be fitter, slimmer and more slinky.
  • Have our house plans finalized.
  • Get the new looking blog launched.
  • Wanted to spend more time on the blog and develop more sections. It will happen, just taking longer than expected.
  • Work on my eBook.
  • Make more money… yes that is the constant want isn’t it.  I’m sure that is on everyone’s list!
(be nice to help more to the household and maybe use the cash for a much needed holiday)

The things on my not pleased list can be fixed and I am working to improve them. I feel energized to create a to do list of things I wish to achieve and cross off each one when complete. I now feel more of a fire in my belly to get more done and to have a very productive rest of 2014.  Do you take stock mid year? I am due to my birthday, but maybe a half yearly stock take for your goals is a good idea? What are your thoughts? (You heard it here first!)

Do you weigh up things around your birthday? I do. I compare what I was hoping to achieve to what actually happened and get a bit upset. However life does happen so you have to excuse yourself a bit for stopping to enjoy things as well. You cannot work till you drop, some do it but it is not sustainable.

On the whole I have it very good and I hope it gets better and grander in the future. I can hope can’t I! Dreams fuel my passions, and they can only make things better. Well I think so!

I have a big box to unwrap tomorrow for my birthday and I am keen to find out what is in it! The twins went out with hubby yesterday and they have been very tight lipped so they have finally learnt and understood how to keep a secret.

One thing that they have said in unison is….

“We don’t know anything about what is inside the box!” “We have no idea mummy!” Then they giggle with faces in their hands and run away! Little funny kids they are.

My birthday presents. Waiting for me to open them! I cannot wait. Wonder what they are?
My birthday presents. Waiting for me to open them! I cannot wait. Wonder what they are?

I will let you know what is inside the big box tomorrow. However I have to unwrap it in the evening due to hubby working and kids at school. It is going to kill me to wait. Staring at it on the dining room table all day! Just painful and horrible torture!

Birthday time is also a reminder for me to get my checkup at the doctor, skin cancer specialist and any other tests, oh a pap test and so on! I like to make sure that I get it done when I remember it. I know not a very good thing to do at your birthday, but you remember the date. It does not have to be on your birthday just close to it. Book in for a check up. Make sure all is tip top with you!

A Happy Mother’s Day

How was your Mother’s Day? Mine was lovely. The twins created cards at school and were very secretive about them. I was told not to touch their bags on Friday and that they will organize, well that is a first. It was only due to the cards being in the bags and the kids needing to find a place to put them so I will not see till Mother’s Day.

The twins secured a place for their secret surprise for me and I was told to stay away from the oven. The kids have a set of draws they call the oven and it is in their room. Not an actual oven. The surprises were put in the draws and I was told to stay away!  I did explain that when you hide things you don’t tell the person you are hiding the secret from where your hiding spot is. They did not get this and were more than happy to tell me where it was. Very funny!

The twins Mother's Day cards they made at school
The twins Mother’s Day cards they made at school

Yesterday morning I got woken by Julia excited about the cards and telling me to get up and go into their room so I can get the surprise. I went to their room with two very excited girls to be presented lovely sparkly cards that they decorated and wrote in themselves. I loved it and it is wonderful to have cards written in their own hand writing. They did a picture of something they like doing with mummy and underneath the teacher wrote what it was.

Each child’s picture and activity was different and very them. Lillian loves swimming with mummy and Julia loves reading stories and books. I thanked the girls for their excellent cards and told them how proud I was of them and keeping the secrets.   My clever girls are doing very well with their art and writing.  Did you get some great cards that were created by the kids? Did they have a lot of glitter on them? Mine did.

I then opened my presents to discover I have bright pink slippers and speakers for the computer. I have not had speakers for ages so finally getting some will be nice.

Yesterday we also visited family and had a lovely lunch with my nana, aunties, sister, mum and cousins.  It was a great day but a long one.

How was your Mother’s Day? Did you have a good day? Was it relaxing? Let us know.

Me Time: Day Spa Here I Come

Last year hubby and the kids got a voucher for a day spa at one of the fancy hotels up here. The present was for Mother’s Day last year and today I am finally using my spa day treat. I cannot wait. A day of relaxation and me time.

AHHH Relaxation at the Spa today! Winning.
AHHH Relaxation at the Spa today! Winning.

What is your favourite time out activity? Is it pampering at a day spa? A massage? A facial or just coffee and a catch up with friends? I wouldn’t mind any of them actually.

Today is my day to pretend that I have millions in the bank and I swan about at day spa’s every day. Not really but it is a great fantasy.

Hubby is going to spend the day with the kids. The house is tidy enough for relatives that are visiting tomorrow so a little tidy up tomorrow before they arrive is all that is needed. Today is rest day and spa day to be precise!

After my spa treatment I hope to get some lunch and soak in the atmosphere of the luxurious hotel.

So what are you up to this Easter Saturday? Hope you have a nice relaxing day.

Send in your best things that you do for you. What helps recharge the batteries when you finally get some me time. Send in your comments.

We Survived Term 1 of Kindy

Term one has ended. Yes the kids have survived their first term at Kindy and so have I. Who knew there would be so many notes home, events, things to do and of course the magic of hearing your child read. It has truly been an eventful time.

Not only have they grown with their education, the girls have grown more height wise. We are not huge so don’t think that we have had a massive growth spurt. However it is just enough to have to tell the kids to sit down when I brush their hair. The extra height is also giving the twins an edge to get into more areas of the house. Not a major fan of this new found talent but they think they are super clever.

I must admit that I am keen to have sleep ins in the holidays and to see if I can get some things done around the house. Holidays have started in style with a trip to the movies. Yes, kids and I went to see the new Muppets film, “The Muppets Most Wanted“. It was funny in parts and the kids loved it so that is the main thing.

The one thing that I will not miss is the morning melt downs; the screaming when I ask kids to brush their hair, to find the other school shoe and where oh where is their reader for school? Or the school hat? It is not me that is going to school and I don’t care if you don’t have your hat and cannot play outside. It will be so nice to not worry about any of this for the next two weeks.

What about you? Have you survived the first term of Kindy? Are you thankful for the holidays? Will you get a sleep in? I might not, but not having to be anywhere for a certain time is relaxing enough. Send in your comments.

Today’s Feel Good Post

Do you have dreams? I’m sure you do! I have been slowly working towards one in particular and have had some hiccups along the way.  Yes some dramas but nothing that cannot be fixed. I thought that this image I found on Pinterest was apt.

I also find that others tend to zap the joy out of what of some things, so I have decided to put my head down and not worry about them. If I believe it I can do it. I can.  Well at least give it a go!

Is there something that you are working on? Do you find that once you tell someone you get comments, some good and some bad? Although I find that the bad ones stay in my head. I do listen to constructive criticism but find that I need to just power on and not look at others work or compare.

“Comparison is the thief of happiness”, I read that somewhere and it is right.

Once you start comparing and judging yourself with what others have done you start to find fault and not see accomplishments and achievements.

So BELIEVE IN WHAT YOU ARE DOING, AND YOU CAN DO IT. I know you can!

I’m now off to have a cuppa tea and get working. Have a great day everyone.
