Aqua Win

Pool
I want to be here exercising, what about you?

Yesterday I went to the pool to do aqua aerobics and yes kids were able to stay in the crèche for the full time of the lesson. In my previous post about not having childcare for the full length of the class, I sent a complaint to the council to see if they were able to allow me and others to do the exercise class and not cut it short to pick kids up.

I was over the moon when I got a response and of course tried it out and got friendly staff and no one saying “We can’t do that, who told you this?”

When I arrived I spoke to the lady who emailed me about coming in, and she organised the ladies to stay later at the crèche to allow me to participate in this session at the pool.  I had a very enjoyable time and was very impressed that they sorted the issue.

I just want to say a big thank you to Liz at the centre she was amazing and helped me out so I could finally do a class when I had the kids with me.

Packing Lightly? What a laugh!

When you have a baby you need to bring all the things a baby would need with you. Bottles, nappies, change of clothes with many options depending on the weather, medicine, cream and the list continues. If you have more than one baby, which we did it does feel like you are packing to never to return to your house ever again, this of course is due to the large amount of stuff that is needed.

Upon talking with my cousin who has recently had twin boys last year she is dealing with the same thing. Packing like you are off on a permanent holiday but if you were going on holiday the babies things would not be the only thing that would be packed, TRUST ME!

After having this conversation I have realised that I don’t take anything with me anymore, I don’t even have band aids in the car in case of emergency (Need to fix this! – Dora the explorer band aids or anything pink and princesses will come in handy, it fixes everything) Today one of my girls grazed her bottom on a ride at the park and it was a big deal, tears and all. It would have hurt a great deal. A nice lady gave her a Dora band aid and asked where it hurt. She pulled down her trousers and told her to put it on her bottom. What a cutie and so sad to see her in pain. She is all right now, but think it will be sore tomorrow. At least the power of the Dora band aid will help, thank you Megan for helping us today.

Now the girls are four and soon to be five, I have found myself out and about without a change of clothes, wipes, medicine, and of course the much needed band aid. The band aid is the one that is most requested as they are at the stage of falling over and getting as many scrapes and bruises possible. I do think it is a competition. One child hurts themselves then the other does the same injury in the same spot. If you have twins have you noticed this? The girls have done this since they were born.

Do you have multiples or just more than one child? How much stuff did you carry around when they were babies or are they still? Are you like me and not going out with much now they are older? Has this created more issues? I have been caught with the kids all wet from water play at playgroup, thank god the house is around the corner and was able to pop back and get a change of clothes.

I hope you are not a pack horse when you leave the house, I felt like one, and I am sure dealing with more than one child does that to you. Send in your stories.

Need Energy!

The girls have organised painting themselves. Could not wait for mummy.
The girls have organised painting themselves. Could not wait for mummy.

Why is it that when you have heaps to do you get sick or don’t feel 100%. I have had my morning coffee, and now just completed eating my muesli with wonderful tasty naval oranges – I am trying to up my vitamin c. I have woken up with a sore throat and the sniffles, and really wanted to stay in bed, however that option is not going to happen with kids who want to get fed and of course be entertained.

Also I need to find the energy to clean and tidy due to hubby and I going out tomorrow night, Yes we are lucky enough to be off to dinner to celebrate a mates birthday and we have a babysitter. Exciting and fun, but not when you are not feeling well.

So I need to make the house look reasonable for our lovely babysitter and get things organised. Thank god that hubby is home on the weekend, maybe what I don’t get done he can help me with tomorrow?

Kids want to paint so have to go and tidy the dining room table and set up the paint for the experience, maybe I should put newspaper under the pergola in the backyard and get them to paint there. Might be less messy. Yes that is what I will do. Hope it is not too cool outside so that they are keen to do it. We will see.

Last night I did Zumba and the twins came along with me. They were so cute following along and wiggling their cute little bums. Just adorable. They were such well-behaved little girls, and after a full day of playgroup and then Zumba last night they fell asleep almost as soon as their little heads touched the pillow. Maybe the exercise did not help, although it was good to go and felt it was another accomplishment especially getting there with kids.

What do you do to promote more energy when sick or not feeling the best? I am going to have a Lem Sip soon and maybe that will help the throat as it has panadol that sits on your throat to help it feel better.  Send in your tips and tricks, and then maybe I can power on and not worry about being under the weather.  I am getting harassed, “Mummy we want to paint! You have finished your breakfast so can we do it now?”  I best go off and organise or else there will be trouble.

PS. While writing this post the girls have organised their own painting so that solves that issue. What clever girls, and also it shows that mummy did not action things quick enough.

Crèche For Part of Fitness Class – I don’t think so!

I want to swim and exercise not just the kids.
I want to swim and exercise not just the kids.

UPDATE: I got a response to my letter to the council (see at the bottom of this post). The lovely lady has told me that all I need to do is tell the staff that I am going to do the 10.30am session of Aqua and to let them know that I need the creche staff to stay till 11.45am to allow me to finish my class. I have thanked her and have not yet tried this, will do for the Wednesday class. I have also let them know that the average customer would not know to ask this as they would expect childcare to cover the session of the fitness class. Reasonable really.

I want to go to the pool to do an aqua fitness class. This class is at 10.30 and lasts an hour. So would end at 11.30. Ages ago I found out that the pool in their stupid wisdom cancelled the crèche for the time that I needed to be at my favourite class. I was so annoyed that I wrote a post about it then, this change to my fitness schedule had me tears. Why cancel something that allows people to use your services!

Other ladies that I have met have been saying that the crèche is open now at this time. I called the pool out of curiosity as I desperately wanted to go to the pool to exercise again. I asked if they had childcare for their 10.30 fitness classes. She said yes, although I would have to be back at 11.15 to pick the kids up as this is when the care ends for the kids.

So let me get this straight. The fitness centre is offering classes at 10.30, the childcare does not cover the whole class and of course after working out you would need a shower and change of clothes and this adds to the time allowed for childcare. I would never be able to fit it all in, and definitely be over the pickup time of 11.15.

Why would I want to pay for a full class not to get a full class? And as stated, I would have to leave even earlier to make sure I showered and changed and got to the crèche in time for picking up the girls. Outrageous isn’t it. Maybe another centre on the mountain can accommodate?

  • Blackheath Pool does not state that they have childcare options
  • Springwood Pool has closed the crèche until the 3rd of May for refurbishment (also don’t want to drive that far – would rather be closer to home)
  • Lawson and Glenbrook on the website does not look like they have a crèche. (This gets too far to drive as well, would rather stay closer and go to Katoomba.)

As a business that is there to of course provide a service to the public but mainly make money, this is going against their mission. Closing off an audience that would use your services and products is not wise in my book. What are your thoughts?

Is it just me or this not acceptable?  If I had more options on care I would go to the gym all week or at least more often than not going. I do want to tone up and lose more weight, but this is not helping.

Are you in the same boat as a mother/parent? Do you live in the Blue Mountains and faced this issue?  Please fill out our poll on the right hand side of the site. Interested to see how the many numbers we get.

Why not continue the discussion on our Twitter or Facebook pages.

PS. Have rung the council and the man on the phone agrees with me. Why have part childcare that does not cover the class. Will do as suggested and send in an email to them. Will see where that goes and if it gets any action.

I have written my email to the council – see below:

17th April 2013
Attention: The General Manager

I wold like to attend the Katoomba Pool and do their fitness classes that are at 10.30am during the week day. To do this I need to have childcare. This issue arises around when the childcare ends, which I have been told is 11.15am. This would mean that I would need to cut my lesson short and then get ready to pick up my twins from the crèche.

I am not happy with this alternative as I was aiming at making a change and wanting to exercise more. As a full time parent to twin four year olds it is impossible to do this when there is school holidays and if not for school holidays if the lesson falls on a day that the kids are not in pre-school then I cannot do the class. I have no help or family so if I don’t look after the kids they are not cared for.

Why would you not have care for all available classes that are at the centre? If a class starts at 10.30am then the childcare should at least got to 11.45 so that a reasonable person will be able to shower and change and get ready to collect their children.

I am annoyed and angry that your centre is discriminating against mothers and parents that have child care responsibilities. This group of people really want to use your service as well and should be allowed to do so. Carers of kids need a break and what better way than exercise. Exercise helps with making you feel better about yourself and of course has the added benefit of keeping you fit and healthy. Why not tap into the niche market of parents who want to tone up and make sure to have care for the kids so they can use your services.  I thought you were a business also and if so you would think that if you do this right, you will get repeat business and people signing up for more membership. The easier it is to access the services, more times the person will come back and of course promote your business to others – word of mouth is a powerful tool.

I really wanted to do an aqua fitness class this morning but as it is school holidays I will not be paying to have a short lesson, you may as well not bother.

Last year on the 4th of Jan I learnt that in your wisdom you cancelled the late session of the crèche which is the 10.30 session that would allow me and others to participate in classes at the Katoomba Centre. I know find out that it is back in a half arsed way – why don’t you have care for the full time of the class that is on offer not just part of it. I am sure if you were presented with this option you would say no and not go either.

I blog and have written about both experiences. http://mummytotwinsplusone.com/4-years-and-beyond/creche-for-part-of-fitness-class-i-dont-think-so  and the older one from last year http://mummytotwinsplusone.com/feeling-frumpy/no-more-pool I hope that you see to fix this silly decision of not to having adequate child care facilities for all of the fitness classes, this service is a way to make sure you get more business, allow mothers and other parents have the ability to get fit, lose weight and have some much needed time out.  Don’t promote your services locally when you are making sure a part of the community cannot use your services due to a lack of child care available.

I want this to be fixed so that I will soon have the option to go to the class I want to go, not to be discriminated against.  If it is a matter of cost, how about offering job sharing? This is a cost that can be factored into the business to generate more business. Once you let everyone know about the childcare at the centre I am sure that more people will come and sign up for classes. If I was assured childcare I would become a member rather than purchasing 10 pass tickets. The 10 pass tickets give me the flexibility as if I was a member when would I use the service if I cannot do the class I wish to do, with no care I cannot do anything.

Please fix this as I am keen to do an aqua class during the week.

Busy

Kids and I had a big day out, off to get a check up for me, then off to centrelink to fill out forms and hand in paperwork, then off to the mail to check for more bills or letters, returned found book to library (Phew on that one), Went to Macca’s for lunch as a treat for the kids, then after lunch we went to Penrith to get shorts for daddy and to look around. Ended up getting new pj’s for the twins, singlets for the twins, three pairs of shorts for hubby (at a cheap price, they were marked down. Thank you Lowes), Some more shoes for the kids as they are growing and with winter they need sturdy shoes for being in the bush and winter. I even got a surprise for my cousin’s four month old twins thanks to Target.

After all that shopping and telling kids to stop touching things and to get out of the clothes racks, we went and looked the animals at the pet shop. After looking and some cute animals we found the car and drove home.  I am tired and glad that the kids were not mucking up too much. They did not go to bed straight away and were still up at 9pm chatting away. The time is 10:56pm and they are passed out. Lillian took her pillows so that she could sleep at the bottom of Julia’s bed. Do you think this means they will sleep in? I can only hope…. maybe I might get my wish?

Both kids are in their new pj’s and they are rather big considering the others they have, maybe I should have purchased the smaller size. I like to have a larger size in bed as it is nice to be not too confined, and I am sure they will grow into it. Maybe I can fix it up so they can let it out once they are bigger.

One win today was the fact that they messed up their room playing and called daddy and I in to see their room. I was worried as normally this means it is terrible and hours later we are still tidying it up, but it was not this time. Hold on to your seats. They tidied it all up and made their beds and put all teddies neatly on their beds for bed time. What good little girls. Maybe me making them tidy up after them is starting to kick in. I really hope so.

How has your day been? I am off to get into my pj’s and to go and brush my teeth before bed. I am looking forward to crashing my head on the pillow and passing out to nice dreams.

PS. Skin check was clear, nothing to worry about, all normal. So great news considering I left it six years for this check up.

Check Your Skin

Do you get regular skin checks? I was very good but have let it slide for a few years. Naughty I know, but today I am off to have a once over at the skin cancer clinic. A doctor checks the freckles, moles and anything else that might be a concern to make sure it is not bad or might turn bad.

My local skin cancer clinic is easy to get an appointment and there is no need to get a referral. It is bulk bill – all you need is your medicare card (Just do a search for the local skin cancer clinic in your area). You just need to make the time and make the appointment. It might be something that saves your life. Living in Australia and being in the sun a lot you need to be conscious of protecting and looking after your skin. Easier said than done. I try my best but sometimes I don’t do as I should, probably like everyone else – Lets hope that my protection has helped.

What to watch out for on your skin - Graphic from www.healthcommunities.com
What to watch out for on your skin – Graphic from www.healthcommunities.com

I do try and wear suncream most days, but sometimes I forget. As a kid who grew up in Queensland and loved the sun I do have few freckles so the doctor might have a few things to look at. I am confident that there is nothing to worry about, and have been meaning to get an appointment for ages now.  I was very pleased that when I did ring I only waited a week or two and now have the appointment today.  I had the idea that I might have wait months and months for one, but was lucky indeed.

This is not a rant about it but just a heads up to anyone thinking about going off and getting looked at. It really does not take that long, a doctor just looks at your skin and makes sure that all is the way it should be.  If you are worried, better be safe than sorry and get checked. Easier to fix something small than something big.

This skin check might be different as I have to bring the twins with me. I think pens and colouring books is in order to keep them happy and occupied. I hope that works.

After my quick skin check, I am off to the post office to check the mail, the shops to see if I can locate more shorts for the hubby and then to the shops to get veggies, fruit and of course cheese so Julia can eat sandwiches again. Do you get the doctor to give your skin the once over? Have you done it with kids with you, and if so how did it go? Keen to get the check done so we can all go and look at the shops.

Have you gone to get a check to find that they found something and it saved your life? Send in your comments.

We Know Mummy!

Today hubby and I took the girls to The Royal Bathurst Show, the sun was shining, it was warm and we were off for our family adventure. We arrived a bit after lunch and had not eaten so we got some food shortly after arrival, however the chips on a stick was not as filling as we had hoped, while looking around for food we saw the show.

The girls did not want to go on any rides and any suggestions were met with shaking of heads and running and hugging us to death! “Don’t leave us mummy and daddy!” was what it was really saying, so no rides for them or us.  We saw pigs, sheep, ducks, ducklings, birds, bees, cows, cats, dogs, and more at the show.

After finally finding a place to eat we ordered some nice German sausage rolls and had a tasty meal. Kids ate a bit and then afterwards we got them an ice cream and I had one as well, which I should not have but it was a day out. (I am still on a quest to lose more weight, so having pictures taken of me looking a bit fat and also admitting to eating an ice-cream is not good, plus other treats today – tomorrow is another day and I will make sure to not have many during the week)

We then decided to make our way to the car to drive home and on the return journey the fun began. Kids were a little off the charts and were just hilarious. Did you know that there is a pooh store, and you can purchase pooh’s for $6 each. There is also a smelly store down the road to this store called the wee wee shop. During this stage of silliness it was revealed that they had fire training at school. I mentioned that this was good as then in case of other emergencies they can ring 000 to ring for Fire, Ambulance or Police.

This was met with “We know mummy! And we know everything!” I stopped explaining and then got the lecture from the four year olds. Geez I am glad they know it all and are on top of things. Have you heard some classics from your kids? If so what were they? Send in your comments.

Pre-emptive Strike

The girls as doctors
The girls as doctors

Yesterday I went to the doctors for a check-up to make sure that all is working and running accordingly. I went as I want to make sure I stay fit and healthy and of course if there is something found, it might be caught early god forbid. I am sure all will be fine, but since two close friends have become ill around the same age, and I am about to turn this age, I thought why not just get a check up and make sure all is well.

My doctor I made the appointment with did not show up and after waiting 30mins for her to arrive I was transferred to another doctor. I told this doctor why I had turned up and what I wanted – A physical and overall health check. He then went on to tell me that I was stressed and possibly depressed and all the tests that I am asking to have done might come back with nothing.

I told him that I thought that would be the case but wanted to just get a full work up to make sure I am in tip top health. His response was what I would do if there was nothing found, what test would I do then? I explained if all came back fine, I would be happy and content, and not get any further tests.

I am not wanting to find an issue or a problem, I would just like to make sure that I deal with one before it becomes a bigger problem. If god forbid I do get something, I would like it to be caught early and to have options to deal with whatever it is.  It struck me that the doctor was so against getting tested for things and being pre-emptive rather than dealing with something that would cost society and the healthcare system later.  I was under the belief that doctors are trying to make people get annual health checks to prevent disease and to make sure our society is living a healthier more productive life – this doctor was not what I imagined.

People are living longer and also having kids later in life, you need to be healthy to be with family and friends. Why not promote the idea of getting an annual health check and make them all free. It helps everyone.

So today I had about 8 test tubes of blood taken as I had to be fasting to have the tests done and yesterday I had eaten before going to the doctors. I am sure all will be well and feel good that I have gone for a check-up.

Have you had a doctor who did not want to run tests for an annual health check? What did you do? I just explained that I worry and would like the peace of mind knowing all is well. He decided that was good enough for him. My usual doctor would have had no issue with my reason for my health check.

Good tip: My good friend who is a nurse suggested getting an annual checkup around your birthday. This way you remember and it is not something you will forget. It does not have to be on your birthday just around it, you don’t want to have needles and tests on your day of celebration if you can help it, I certainly don’t.

The Story Circus

Seriously reading at the library
Seriously reading at the library

Why is it that every time that it is story time the twins seem so busy, walking and talking, putting on clothes and playing with toys. They are obviously not listening to the story. At this part of the evening mummy just wants to go and get her dinner and sit down in a lump on the lounge, eating and maybe watching a scary show that is not kid friendly. No it seems that my little people have other ideas of how story time should go, and that is let’s not listen to mummy at all and just muck up and create havoc.

I do tell them that they need to listen to the story and pay attention as it helps the person who is reading, also it is nice as the child is enjoying said story and taking it in. I do tell them if they carry on and muck up mummy might stop reading if there is no one listening. Did I say listening!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Gosh how annoying today has been. I think the kids have got me on mute somehow, if only it was a volume issue. I think not! I think it is kids testing boundaries and just ignoring mummy on will.

Is this happening to you? Tonight I left their room as they were acting up and I refused to read the story. This led to a break down and as you can imagine, tears and screaming. I had hit my limit and could handle it no more. Enough is enough and kids need to know that they cannot treat people like this and still expect good things to come to them. After I got a big apology and hugs and kisses, I then and only then went into read their story for the night and tuck them both in.

They tried it on again and I said, that’s it, you have not learnt your lesson. Quickly they sat quietly and listened to the story. Maybe leaving and having enough is a good thing. Let’s see if it lasts. Just between you and me, I am not holding my breath!

Does this happen to you? What are your tips and techniques to make sure that kids pay attention and listen for story time? The kids pick out the book for the nights story, so that cannot be it, it is obviously the fact that they get bored and their attention is taken with other things.

Kids are now in bed, and talking. Dinner is ready and I am keen to eat some food and watch some adult viewing (not porn – I know there are some out there that just go to that place) just stuff that is not kid friendly, like supernatural or being human.

High on Chocolate – Easter 2013

The kids were super excited about Easter and the of course the Easter Bunny, otherwise known as E.B from Hop. The twins are now obsessed with the film Hop and are watching it for the fourth or so time as I write this post.

Mummy and daddy have had hot cross buns for breakfast and daddy tried out his hot chocolate pods that we gave him for Easter. Daddy was super impressed with his present and that the hot chocolate was really tasty. I think we will need to purchase more of these, as with the kids putting their orders in this selection might not last long. Just in case you want to get these pods for a Caffitaly Coffee System, I purchased them from Map Coffee. Not trying to advertise them but as the chocolate pods are hard to find in the supermarket, thought you might want one as well.

Have They Been Good Enough?

Kids are super excited about Easter and the impending Easter Bunny.  I have organised surprises for the twins, however they are getting into mischief and acting up a lot lately, which brings me to my question. Have they been good enough?

Daddy told the girls that if they did not stop mucking around he will call Mr Easter Bunny and tell him not to come to our house. You can imagine the chaos this ended with. Yes, tears, screams and I hate you was uttered a few times! I must say in our defense the girls have been little terrors, but is it just due to being four years old? I think so, who knows.

When they are out of line they get into trouble and get the appropriate punishment, however I think it feels like it is happening more than usual lately. Do you have those times? It does feel like all I do is punish someone or send someone to time out. Maybe it is the pushing the envelope that is the issue?

They seem to be pulling up their socks a little bit when they realised how close Easter really is, not sure if it is the lure of the chocolates or if they are trying to be good for goods sake. They are generally very good kids and understand when they are wrong, however it is more sister related issues. Pinching, and being on top of each other is wearing rather thin.

Do you have twins or triplets? Do they hurt or annoy their siblings when they want to be alone or not share a toy? I know it is hard being with each other all the time. I do try and have them do separate things however most of the time they want to be together. I am exhausted due to organising and dealing with all the carry on.

The Love of Books

Do your kids love books and going to the library? Mine do, they just adore it. Going to the library is a big deal and a great outing for the twins. Last Friday we went to return books that we had borrowed and the girls wanted to borrow more. While we were there they wanted to read some books, which is really just looking at the pictures.

We borrowed so many books I am not sure if we will get through them all. The librarian mentioned we can borrow up to 20 books and encourage more books to be borrowed, as they like the idea young kids reading and being at the library. The twins wanted to borrow so many but told them that we can always come back and get them next time.

What books do your kids like reading? Do your children have a good library near them. We are lucky that the library has been revamped and it is very swanky now. With us in a digital age, books are not the in thing now. I am glad that my kids love them.

Why Can't Mummy Sleep In?

Drooling over going to bed
Drooling over going to bed

Last night the kids had a late one. There was a free info session about bats and a walk to see if we could spot one, we ended up walking in the dark and it was a nice bush walk. I did not see one myself but the twins decided that they saw ones of all different colours, yellow, pink, blue and so on. I think we might have seen one at a distance but it was hard due to it being dark and the torches I had were for the kids and one decided not to work, and of course they are not that powerful. Next time will need to bring a better torch.

After tucking in the girls for bed time we asked that they allow us to sleep in, if they did get up we suggested that they play quietly in the living room or their bedroom. As you have guessed from the title of this blog post, it was not to be. Mummy was woken by one of the girls to get her breakfast at the early time of 7.30am, I know this is not that early compared to some other kids, however we have had a terrible couple of days and as I am sick and receiving bad news about a mate, a rest was in order.

I was living in hope to get this sleep in and I should have known that it would not happen. I have been walking around today with my eyes hanging out of my head. We took the kids to the Dinosaur Park in Bathurst. This trip to the park will hopefully help with the sleep and not sure on the sleep in but might make it an easier bed time. Usually it is a lot of mucking about and playing, the issue here is that the twins share a bedroom. Hard in a small house (maybe winning the lotto will help us win the money for the new house that will give us more space!)

Do you as a mummy ever get to sleep in? Is it possible? Please tell me how you manage to do this with kids wanting mummy all the time? As I am writing this hubby is reading the bed time story and I am sipping on red wine. Nice and relaxing, and looking forward to falling into bed to get some much needed rest. Maybe hubby can wake up early tomorrow?

I Cannot Be 40?

In a couple of months I will turn a year older, however it is a big number birthday this year and it starts with a 4. Yes the dreaded 40 but I don’t feel or think I look 40 so I am pretending I am turning 20 or at the very least 30 again. Have you had this happen to you? The realisation that in age you are getting older but you don’t look or feel old? All very sad indeed.

I am trying to plan my party or a celebration for my birthday however my original thoughts were to have a dinner with a good group of mates has made me think that is a very tame way to celebrate my new age and how I truly feel. I would like to go dancing and have a nice night in town, however it is the issue of getting kids minded, who would join me on said celebration and where would we go? I know sounds easy but hard when most of my mates now might not enjoy a loud night club.

The week before my birthday my hubby has his, then the week after I graduate from university and then after that is my birthday and after my birthday we have our wedding anniversary. So there is lots to celebrate, and that is just us in May. We also have friends birthdays, my Aunty’s birthday and of course my lovely mother in law’s birthday. So it is a big month. I even forgot to include Mother’s Day. Phew, is that it for May? I might have left something out but that is all I can remember. Maybe I have a night out dancing somewhere and then a dinner with others on a different day, as you can see I have multiple things to celebrate so that will not be an issue to find other days. The issue lies with the babysitting with the kids, maybe they can come with, but if it is a late night that might not be a good idea.

I am also quite sad that I don’t have close girlfriends that will be celebrating with me. The ones from school have all gone their separate ways, so my thoughts of celebrating with friends from the past are gone.  My other close friends don’t live close by so that is hard to organise, but will invite anyway.  I know woe is me, but I have been feeling a bit depressed about the whole thing, not majorly but just a bit down in the dumps.

One other thing that has upset me lately is that two of my good friends that have recently turned 40 have gotten ill, yes cancer and I am rather worried as I am about to turn 40 that I might be in store for that as well. I know it is a numbers game, it is down to genetics, or just the luck of the draw (I am sending good healing vibes to them). Understanding all that, it does not make me feel good about this birthday. I am thinking that I need to go and get a health check and some tests done to make sure that I stop worrying. I worry so if the tests can make me feel better then I will not stress about it. Or less than I am doing now.

Have you had issues like this? Some of your friends fall ill? Are they the same age? What did you do for your 40th? I cannot believe I will be 40 it is all so strange. If you are not 40 what would you do for your party? One idea I have is going to a pub in the city called the Art House to do some drawing get dinner and drinks, after that we can then go off dancing somewhere or maybe to another pub? Ideas, what would you do? Remember I have to have the kids babysat so cannot be out too late, I know it is a pity. Maybe I can get someone to mind them on a weekend? Maybe stay in the city? That is a thought?

The Oven Did It

Yesterday the twins were mucking about in their room and I could only think it would end in disaster. I commented to them and to hubby that we would end up at the hospital and that is exactly what happened. Julia fell and cut her little toe deeply on what they call their play oven. In actual fact it is small set of draws that the kids pretend is their oven. This was confusing at the doctors when he asked Julia how she hurt herself, she promptly told him, “She cut her foot on the oven”, we then explained what she meant.

We thought she might need stitches as it was rather deep but according to the doctor it will heal o.k if left with a bandage on and only if it does not get infected. Julia did give it a good go to start this infection off by playing in the dirt with her sister after we completed lunch. Upon this discovery I had both of them in the shower and clean but not before we had major screams and upset from Julia as the water was stinging the cut. I can only imagine how painful it was and still is.

She is fine and I put a sock on her foot and gave her some painkillers to make it easier for her to use her foot. She is happily at pre-school and was able to put on her slip shoe rather than the slipper that she arrived with. It was such an ordeal that Lillian arrived at school with one of her feet that she scraped with a sock and also to a slipper. Think she was going out in sympathy for her sister.

I do find it interesting that after one hurts themselves the other follows soon after. It is the foot, and most of the time the same place or area. If it is the head the same things happen, each child manages to hurt themselves in the same area but by doing different things to cause the injury. A twin thing I think? Does this happen with your twins?

We are pleased that she is fine but it will be a saga to change the bandages and for her to not take off her sock. We are telling her she needs to keep her foot clean or we have to wash it out like yesterday, she agrees she does not want that pain again.

Let me know what happens with your twins? Do they get the same injuries? Is it hours or minutes before they get matching bruises? Why not continue the discussion on our Twitter or Facebook pages.
