All set to make the Sticky Lemon Chicken with fries and stir-fried veggies
If you are like me and love others organising things for you then you will love EveryPlate.
As a busy and tired mum, I’m happy to hand the job of planning dinner to someone else. In fact, I would love to hand over the housework, cooking and everything else for a break, but just having not to shop, think or plan the dinners is a start.
Part of the enormous weight of dinners is planning and thinking of different things to cook. It is so freeing to finally be done with it. It is a weight off my shoulders and does make me feel lighter.
Having meals planned, with recipes and all the ingredients ready to go means that anyone can cook dinner. No excuses, it is super easy and allows for mum or the person who is the go-to cook to have a much-needed break.
So, what did I cook with my EveryPlate Meal Kit?
Nutty Sweet Chilli Noodles with Veggies and Sesame Seeds
I do love a good stir fry with noodles, and it was nice to see that the kids enjoyed this meal too. One of my girls was keen to cook this recipe from EveryPlate and found the instructions easy to follow and was very happy with how the dinner turned out.
The Nutty Sweet Chilli Noodles with Veggies and Sesame Seeds all cooked and ready to eat
Chorizo & Roast Veggie Salad with Garlic Aioli
This was one of my favourite recipes. It was so extremely YUMMY. It was also a very easy meal to make.
All you had to do is chop up all the vegetables, add the seasoning and bake in the oven for a while. Then chop up the Chorizo and add to the vegetables and cook in the oven until done.
Vegetables ready to cook
All cooked and ready to eat. The Chorizo & Roast Veggie Salad with Garlic Aioli was one of my favourites
The meal was topped off with garlic aioli and promptly eaten. Everybody said that they thoroughly enjoyed this meal and finished every crumb in their bowl.
We need to make this again as it was a hit and very easy to create so perfectly for a mid-week dinner when you are busy. It was so good and a meal I would never have made without my EveryPlate meal kit.
Sticky Lemon Chicken with Fries and Stir-fried Veggies
When I first read this recipe, I thought it would be super complicated. I also wondered with one lemon how would it be lemony, but I was wrong on both counts. It was easy to make and in fact super lemony.
The chicken was breast fillets and I ended up cooking them and cutting them up into smaller pieces. I added to the recipe by making chilli chips, I added chilli flakes to the chips. This was one of my favourite recipes from the EveryPlate meals, it was also a different way to do chicken from my usual chicken dinners.
So yummy and lemony is the Sticky Lemon Chicken with Fries and Stir-fried Veggies
I added chilli flakes to the chips
The chips were great with added chilli flakes and added the right amount of spice to the lemon chicken.
Mexican Chicken & Corn Salad with Sweet Potato Wedges
The kids loved the spice on the chicken, and they ate it in record time… I was so glad that it was a hit. The meal was tasty and again easy to create as it made dinner on a weeknight easy.
Mexican Chicken & Corn Salad with Sweet Potato Wedges was one meal that the kids loved
The salad with added extras from my fridge
I was missing a few ingredients for the salad, so I added bok choy and parsley. It ended up looking great with all the different colours and tasted great with all the other ingredients from the meal.
The meals were yummy, and easy, and helped a busy mummy make her life easier.

Last night it started to snow. It was the first snow of 2022 and of course, it is the week before it is officially Spring. Yes, you might have already guessed that it is still very very very cold here. Although still freezing we have had the odd day where it was warmer than before but still not hot…so for me, this was a nice sign that warmer weather is fast approaching.
I wonder if on the 1st of September it will suddenly be warmer? Will the weather know that it does need to suddenly be warmer? I do hope so. If it is miraculously warm then the universe must then instantly know that it is spring and I need to be warm.
If it is indeed warmer soon, I might finally be able to sit outside in the garden with a drink and enjoy the flowers.
So of course we were hit by another last-ditch attempt to still be in the freezing cold

I have never tried EveryPlate and was keen to give the meals a go. I was given a code test out a box. I navigated to the EveryPlate website and got busy picking out my weekly meals.
I thought I would give the meal box a good go and selected 4 meals for 4 people. I then wanted to change a few meals but some options from pork to beef and finally got the meals picked and organised. I was very keen to try my meals from EveryPlate.
One of the family-friendly meals that were on the original menu was mince with tomato bolognese sauce with penne pasta. I decided to change this as it was rather like the meals we cook on a regular basis. No point in having a meal box delivered with the same meals you always create; I wanted a change.
The box arrived early morning on Wednesday, and it was exciting to have a box of items that have been picked just for me and delivered to the house. No shopping, no having to drag kids with me to get what was needed. All items just arrived at my house, a brilliant part of the service in my book.
I got busy making sure that all the ingredients and items were put away, and ready to make my yummy meals from EveryPlate.

Please note this is just weird thoughts from my brain about a possible scenario and it is not real or accurate in any way—all 100% fantasy.
Filling out a lotto ticket, hopefully, a winning ticket
A long while ago I purchased a ticket to the lotto. I forget which one just that it had a tremendous amount of money to win….something like 50 million.
I alongside many others purchased my ticket to have the chance to dream and of course, win an ENMOROUS amount of money. Even a small percentage of $50 million would be nice, I am not fussy.
For my ticket I got an auto pick as I was feeling lucky and then went about my day thinking of all the possibilities winning even a little bit of this cash would bring me. I would be able to travel, invest in my projects, build the house that I have been dreaming about, fix the house we are currently living in, invest in the kid’s future and oh buy an electric car that I have been lusting over (this would now be possible due to being able to upgrade the house to solar and also having finally enough cash to buy the car in the first place).
My fantasy to win lotto
I kept my ticket in my purse for a while and totally forgot about it. I also didn’t hear anything on the news about how someone won and they couldn’t track them down.
I finally decided to go to the newsagency and get my lotto ticket checked…you never know it might be the winning ticket.
I handed my ticket to the lady behind the counter and she scanned it, and then said, no nothing.
Really…..it’s not a winning ticket!!! Well, there goes my lotto-winning day dream.
There was nothing that came up on the screen. No way to know deep down it wasn’t a claim for any money.
I know that deep down it really didn’t win but what if? What if others were telling me lies to pocket my prize money? If this fantasy is real I’m owed millions in prizes.
Have you ever thought that maybe every ticket that wasn’t a winning lotto ticket was in fact a winning ticket? I hope I am not the only one. Let me know if you do this too.

“A man finds himself at war with a bee while house sitting a luxurious mansion. Who will win, and what irreparable damage will be done in the process?” IMDB.com
I recently watched Man vs Bee on Netflix and to say it stressed me out is an understatement. I got very uneasy and was shouting at the TV when disaster was going to strike and as you can imagine inevitably it did. As a person who never likes to see damage happen, I found it hard when priceless items were destroyed….all to rid the house of one bee!
However it was like wanting to know what happened in a disaster, I had to find out what happened, was Trevor going to triumph over the bee? Or will the bee get his revenge to Trevor’s demise?
What is Man vs Bee About?
“Man vs. Bee is a 2022 British comedy created and written by Rowan Atkinson and William Davies. The show consists of nine episodes, each of them directed by David Kerr. Atkinson stars as a down-on-his-luck man who finds himself entrenched in a battle with a bee while house-sitting a rich couple’s modern mansion. Jing Lusi, Claudie Blakley, Tom Basden, Julian Rhind-Tutt, Greg McHugh, and India Fowler also feature. Man vs. Bee premiered on Netflix on 24 June 2022 and received mixed reviews from critics.” Wikipedia
Rowan Atkinson is Trevor Bingley who is obsessed with removing a bee from a mansion that is filled with expensive everything; statues, artwork, clothes, cars, books, and more.
13 reasons why Trevor should never house sit
Breaks priceless statue When Trevor first arrives at the house he walks around admiring all the art and objects. You slowly realise that there are a lot of very expensive and priceless objects. He turns around and bumps a statue off a table. Trevor tries to remember how to open the kitchen cabinets from the information shared by Nina and Christian the homeowners but is finding it difficult, as he is looking for glue to fix the broken statue. Trevor finally finds super glue and fixes the broken statue by glueing the broken part back on. However, this scene has been found to have a continuity error. “One viewer couldn’t help but notice the moment during the first episode when the head of a broken statue hilariously flies across the room after Trevor tries to speedily glue it back together and dry it with a hairdryer. However, in the next shot, as Trevor looks on horrified, the head inexplicably appears back attached to the main body of the statue.” Hello Magazine
Trevor breaks the statue on the first day
Burns manual to house When Trevor met Nina and Christian they explained that the house has a manual, all that he will need to know is in this manual. The manual also had codes to unlock doors and other such items, if Trevor doesn’t have these codes the only way to open doors is using Nina’s voice as it is voice activated. Trevor put the manual on the induction stove top, he thought that he had turned on one area of the stove for a saucepan to heat up some food but had actually turned on the back part of the stove that the manual was sitting on and therefore set it alight. As you might guess the food never cooked or heated up and Trevor was not sure why it wasn’t working.
The instruction manual to the house
Locks Cupcake the dog in the library Cupcake the much-loved dog of Nina and Christian is not allowed in the library. The library is the home of some very rare books and one, in particular, is a manuscript that is on display on a platform that is carefully lit. Trevor was given explicit instructions to make sure that the dog was never allowed in and in his panic to try and rid the living area of the bee didn’t realise that Cupcake snuck inside while Trevor was distracted making it easy for the door to lock after him. Trevor remembers that the codes were to do with famous naval battles and magically remembers what the code is but then the door will not open unless he sounds like Nina, so Trevor spends time perfecting his female Nina-like voice to open the library door.
Cupcake destroys priceless manuscript While Cupcake is trapped in the library she destroys the priceless antique manuscript that the homeowners were protecting and valued. It is torn to shreds and as you can imagine the rest of the library is a mess too.
Cupcake destroys priceless manuscript
Ruins a Kandinsky sculpture Trevor breaks parts of the Kandinsky sculpture and works hard to fix it. He replaces the artwork with a metal hand beater and other things to make it appear like it was before it was broken.
Rips a Mondrian painting Trevor accidentally rips the painting by using a hammer to try and open the door to the library that is locked. He attempts to break the glass on the library door and then the hammer slips out of his hand and flies backwards to then slide and rip down the expensive painting. Trevor fixes this issue with tape and colouring it to appear like the red on the painting. At one point the tape falls down to show that there indeed has been damaged and that it is not perfect.
Painting with a hammer stuck in it
Makes cupcake the dog sick Trevor has been warned that Cupcake cannot eat peanut butter, if she eats it she has diarrhoea and farts a lot…and as you can imagine it was not good and very stinky. Due to Cupcake having an upset belly and doing terrible poos inside it affects Trevor when he crawls back inside the house with Cupcake’s collar that opens automatically the dog door. Trevor accesses the house with the dog door due to locking himself outside of the house and then lands right into the dog poo.
Cupcake eats peanut butter and then gets very sick
Wears the furs of the homeowners while covered in dog poo Trevor is covered in dog poo when there is a police officer at the door. He doesn’t know what to do as he is not dressed adequately, he panics and finds a fur coat to wear when he answers the door, he is also still wearing the dog collar. While speaking with the police officer the officer finds that Trevor is rather smelly and finds his outfit rather troubling. The police officer is letting homeowners know that there is a band of burglars that are breaking into houses and to be aware.
Posions Cupcake the dog In an effort to rid the house of the pesky bee, Trevor traps it in the pantry and then has a poisonous bomb of cleaning chemicals. To lure the bee into the pantry Trevor put peanut butter on a knife and left it in the pantry with the door open, this then also lured in Cupcake the dog. Trevor thought it was just the bee and shut the door trapping Cupcake in the pantry when he let off the chemicals. House sitters are trusted to look after animals, not kill them or try to…well you hope this never happens.
Freaking out after he nearly kills Cupcake the dog
Torches the house In one last-ditch effort to rid the bee from the house and away from Trevor he torches the house. As you might imagine this caused terrible damage and burnt the house too. Torching houses of course is not what a housesitter should do and one that you would think that a bee would not survive, but this bee is rather clever and cunning…. Yes maybe the bee has a cunning plan Trevor
Torches the house to remove the bee
Damages a priceless E-type Jaguar After nearly killing Cupcake the dog Trevor needs to get her to the vet. Trevor decides to drive the very rare and super expensive E-Type Jaguar to get much-needed medical help for cupcake. On the way to the vet he damages the car, to make sure he had all the broken bits he made sure to put them in the car and magically made it to the vet, and spoiler alert….Cupcake was okay.
Bombs the house Trevor is so over this bee and is dead set on wanting to get rid of it for good. He believes he has captured it and then devises a bomb to kill it for good. He lets off the bomb in the garden but it impacts the house and also the car too.
Unknowingly let burglars into the house Trevor had no idea that he let the burglars into the house. The team of men were locked in the house and was in the process of robbing the house of Nina and Christian’s valuables. As a house sitter, you should really know if you have burglars in the house and poor Trevor had no idea.
What did I think of Man vs Bee?
I found the show reminiscent of Mr Bean but the character of Trevor was different. Trevor was more caring and human and Mr Bean is rather selfish in his behavoiur. The drama that Trevor got into as a result of a bee was horrible and there was so much destruction. I found myself yelling at the television about certain things, and telling Trevor loudly, “NO don’t do that!!!!” “Oh NO!”
The show has very short episodes and some by the time you start have ended, so it is very easy to watch the whole season in one go. I did find myself annoyed at all the destruction and rather upset about it but had to watch it to the end. Some things were very funny and others I found rather troublesome. I wasn’t a fan of showing how to poison a bee or kill a bee as they are needed for our survival. Bees pollinate our food and help everyone. However, I know the bee was used as a demonstration of something that plagued Trevor, leading to him not letting go and focusing on that above anything else.
I am not sure that Man vs Bee is for everyone. If you were like me you might get upset with all the destruction and be too stressed out to watch more.

It was very nice to have a break for a week. I didn’t go on holiday; I didn’t really have a break, but it felt like a mental rest to not have to think about what was for dinner as well as not shopping for all the items to go with the meals.
Until the job of deciding what to do for dinner is taken off my plate… see what I did there, a meal pun. I didn’t realise how much organising dinner every night weighed upon me.
Hubby preparing to make Chicken & Creamy Peppercorn Sauce
It felt like a holiday to have all the decisions made for me (for dinners not everything in the world). You can let HelloFresh pick your meals or you change them to suit your needs.
Things that I loved about HelloFresh:
No shopping for ingredients
Gets delivered to your door
Super easy to follow recipes with portions so that there is no waste
Very fresh ingredients
Tasty meals with variety for the week
Recipes were easy to follow and create – simply match the recipe card to the right colour bag of ingredients.
Different meals that you normally would never cook
I liked the fact that all you have to do is match the colour codes for your ingredients and recipe.
The whole family got involved and cooked a HelloFresh meal each. It was great to see that the kids were excited to take part in what the family was eating for dinner each night.
One thing that I did really like was that the meals were easy to create. No complicated steps or things to do. However, there were some recipes that were quicker to make than others, but no matter the time the meal took to make, the steps were still easy.
Hubby making the creamy peppercorn sauce
A few things we noticed:
While Hubby was cooking the Chicken & Creamy Peppercorn Sauce he noticed that the sauce took longer to thicken up than the recipe said. The recipe said around 5 or so minutes but it took around 30 minutes to thicken up.
One of my girls was cooking the Quick Sweet Chilli Beef Stir-Fry and we realised that the way they wanted us to cook the rice didn’t work, so we ended up cooking it the normal way by boiling it in a saucepan.
We added what we thought was ample olive oil for the marinade mixture, but it needed a bit more as it was too dry.
These were not major issues, and the meal was still easy to create and tasted delicious.
Quick Sweet Chilli Beef Stir-Fry ready to eat
I have never made a Carbonara from scratch before. I always thought it would be complicated. HelloFresh showed me that it is in fact very simple to make.
It was nice to make a meal that I’ve never made before and allow me to have new cooking skills for next time.
At least I will have the HelloFresh recipe card to help me make Creamy Bacon Carbonara again.

What to cook for dinner is the eternal question as a mother, and one that after a full day of working or if you are exhausted is hard to face.
It is so easy to resort to family favourites; spaghetti bolognese, a simple stir fry or maybe it is mac and cheese? Whatever your go-to dinner is, it can get super boring very quickly. Or maybe, you just try and encourage others to cook until you realise that no one is hungry. Or you resort to having breakfast for dinner.
Also, from the perspective of a mum that thinks about way too many things to keep the house and family going, it is nice to not think about what to cook. It is so nice to have a break about what to create for dinner, well other than actually cooking it and also getting all the ingredients from the supermarket.
I organised 5 meals for the week from HelloFresh and made sure to pick family-friendly recipes. I’m trying to encourage the kids to eat something different. Below I will detail what we cooked each day (Also check out the video above and see the timecodes for each recipe).
Day 1: Quick Sweet Chilli Beef Stir-Fry
Getting ready to cook the Quick Sweet Chilli Beef Stir-Fry
One of my girls cooked this meal and she did an amazing job. I did help her out with a few things; however, she did the majority on her own.
Cutting up the vegetables for the Quick Sweet Chilli Beef Stir-Fry
The food was fresh, the recipe was easy to follow and my thirteen-year-old was able to create the meal with no issues.
It was a yummy and simple meal that was also quick to create and having a quick go-to dinner for a weeknight meal is a good thing in my book. You don’t want to be fussing for hours to cook a meal for the kids and yourself.
I added chilli flakes to hubby and my meal, and the kids had their meal chilli flake-free.

Day 2: Quick Caribbean Chicken Tacos with Pineapple & Corn Salsa
Caribbean Chicken Tacos with Pineapple & Corn Salsa Ingredients and recipe card from HelloFresh
I don’t know about you, but I think nearly everyone loves a good taco. These tacos were more like a soft tortillas and were filled with tasty cooked Caribbean chicken and fresh pineapple and corn salsa. It was topped off with garlic aioli.
Cutting up the cooked pineapple
This meal was cooked by one of my girls who was excited to be cooking a meal with our HelloFresh box. It was nice to see the kids getting involved in cooking meals for the family and learning life skills.
The cooked chicken ready for the Caribbean Chicken Tacos with Pineapple & Corn Salsa
Adding the ingredients to the taco and getting ready to serve to everyone
The Caribbean Chicken Tacos with Pineapple & Corn Salsa were tasty and very yummy. In fact, it was a huge hit with everyone. This meal is one that we will definitely be making again.
Day 3: Chicken & Creamy Peppercorn Sauce
Chicken & Creamy Peppercorn Sauce ingredients from HelloFresh
Hubby wanted to have a go with the HelloFresh meals and cooked Chicken & Creamy Peppercorn Sauce. I thought he would like this as he is a big fan of spice and I also love a good peppercorn sauce.
Hubby found the recipe easy to do however the sauce took a little longer than stated on the recipe card.
Sweet potato mash for the Chicken & Creamy Peppercorn Sauce
The chicken is all cooked and ready for the cream and peppercorn sauce
Making the cream and peppercorn sauce
Day 4: Kale and Beef Cottage Pie
This was a new take on the standard cottage pie, otherwise known as a shepherd’s pie. I for one have used Bok Choy in my own thrown-together home versions of a cottage pie but have never used kale before. It was a nice change to Bok Choy or Broccolini.
I normally add cheese on top of the mashed potato and use tasty or aged cheese, however in the HelloFresh box there was parmesan to use. In the HelloFresh recipe, it said to mix the shredded parmesan cheese in the mash mixture and add it to the top of the dish and then bake in the oven.
I’ve never added cheese to the mash before baking so this was a little different for me. I followed the instructions and of course, kept a little extra parmesan to sprinkle on top. I must admit that adding the cheese to the mash worked a treat and I will adopt this method next time I make a cottage or shepherd’s pie.
The flavours worked well with the sauce and added vegetables and were very tasty. The only extra item I added was some chilli flakes to make the meal for hubby and I spicier.

Day 5: Creamy Bacon Carbonara with Pear Salad
Creamy Bacon Carbonara with Pear Salad ingredients from HelloFresh
I do love a good creamy bacon carbonara, however, I have never made a carbonara sauce from scratch until now. Creating a carbonara sauce I always thought was terribly complicated, but it really isn’t.
Onions and garlic ready for the carbonara
HelloFresh had simple instructions and made me a carbonara sauce expert….and all I have to do is keep my recipe card to do it all over again.

The show ‘Only Murders in the Building’ reminds me of Alfred Hitchcock’s ‘Rear Window’. The show looks into other people’s apartments and bit by bit you learn more about their lives. As a viewer, you get involved, invested, and need to find out what will happen next. The art deco animation for the intro titles is also reminiscent of old films, well I think it is.

I just love Selena Gomez’s outfit from the first season of Only Murders in the Building
What are Only Murders in the Building about?

After a suspicious death in their affluent Upper West Side apartment building, the Arconia, the three neighbors decide to start their own podcast about their investigation of the death, which the police ruled a suicide.” Wikipedia.
I loved the show and have been waiting eagerly for season 2. It is so cleverly written, acted, and a well-cast show. A joy to watch!

Add the lemon juice and process until well combined. Step 3: With the motor running, add the oil in a thin steady stream until smooth. Once done, transfer the hummus to a bowl. Sprinkle with parsley and serve with crackers or bread.

We visited Portland Night Markets in April and had a great time, there were plenty of stalls, craft fun for the kids, and also food trucks. The markets and silos are managed by the Foundations at Portland.
The stunning mural on the Portland Silos
While we were at the Portland Twilight Markets in April we did the following:
Looked at the stalls and bought things
Ate food from the food trucks
Looked around at the silos
Enjoyed a bit of music
My youngest had fun creating art at the kid’s corner
We are keen to enjoy the cracker and bonfire night at Portland Silos. It is freezing here already so we will need to rug up as it is really windy.
If you are going see the details below and maybe I will see you there.

Lounge Katz will keep you entertained in the markets while out by the fire, local musicians and performers will keep you entertained while you warm up. For the kids, the STEAMWorks Craft Corner will be back, and we are welcoming Fizzics providing exciting engaging shows for kids of all ages throughout the night.”
I am a massive Penn & Teller fan and have been watching them on TV for ages. Not only am I a huge fan, our twin girls and hubby are also raving fans as well. Yep, we think they are awesome.
It was hubby’s and my plan, with our two good mates to fly to Las Vegas and see Penn & Teller, however that never happened. So I am thankful that they are finally touring Australia as this might be my only chance to see them without flying to Vegas.
It was late 2019 and I managed to secure front row tickets for hubby and I and the twins to see Penn & Teller at the Opera House. You might have guessed I was a happy woman and sooooo excited about the upcoming event.
I didn’t give the kids heaps of presents for the 2019 Christmas as I was foucsing on experiences over things. I got them tickets to see Shrek the Musical and of course, the Penn & Teller tickets, which they had no idea about but the show would have been in January 2020.
However, due to COVID, the show was cancelled and my money was refunded. I was not happy but understood. I wasn’t sure if Penn & Teller would come back so decided to not say anything to the kids. If I did mention that I got tickets and we couldn’t go, or if Penn & Teller decided to not tour in Australia? What if it never happened? Maybe the show will get rescheduled but when would this be? Still best to not tell the kids, I thought this the better tactic as I didn’t want to be asked, didn’t want the disappointment and thought it best to see what might happen.
I eventually got an email from the Opera House saying that the show had been rescheduled for April 2020 and due to other shows that were already playing Penn & Teller was now going to be at the Capitol Theatre. Okay I thought, I need to get tickets to that show. I managed to secure four tickets in the 3rd or 5th row and all was good, that is until the show got canceled again. I believe it was due to a few things this time, COVID and Teller had a back operation and needed to rest.
So for the second time, I got my money refunded and was told that they would let us know when the show would be rescheduled. At this stage, I thought they might not come at all.
Flash forward to 2022 and I got an email from the Opera House saying that since I was on the list of people that bought tickets before, and the shows were cancelled that they had great news that Penn & Teller were coming to Australia and tickets would be on sale from 9am that day.
I had a strategy day at work but needed to get 4 tickets urgently and make sure to get decent seats. For some strange reason, the bank had changed a code for online banking and my credit card was refusing transactions. I had to get the hubby to do the purchase and seating choice. I did have great seats but since the transactions were not allowing me to continue I lost the seats due to the time allotted to do the purchase…..I was not happy and needed to get tickets.
Hubby finally let me know that he secured tickets and all was good in the world. Finally, after 3 attempts to see Penn & Teller we had tickets again. Phew. I just hoped that this show didn’t get cancelled too.
Finally the show at last!
June came and the date of the show was here (Insert very excited happy dance from me). The twins had no idea what we were doing, just that we were all going to the city to see something, what they had no idea! As said I didn’t want to say that we might see these great magicians for the worry that it might never happen, I didn’t want to promise something that might never become a reality.
We arrived at the Opera House and parked our car. I didn’t even think about VIVID when I booked the tickets and as you can imagine it was packed with people and very busy. Once there, we all walked around and found somewhere to have an early dinner.
After dinner, we enjoyed ice cream and looked at the view and the large cruise ship going under the Harbour Bridge at sunset. It was a great sight and one that looked like if the ship was any taller it might not have fitted under the bridge.
Even though we had time to spare we decided due to how cold it was getting to wait inside the Opera House, when we entered a man who was dressed in a suit who worked at the Opera House said, “Are you here to see Penn & Teller?”
This is when the girls said, “WHAT! REALLY? DID HE SAY PENN & TELLER?” I said maybe…..as you can see they were very happy and surprised.
We waited until the upstairs area with the bar and more seating was open and then got drinks and waited some more. The girls got t-shirts from Penn & Tellers merch and we collected 4 cards as instructed for a trick we had no idea about – The Love Ritual… strange, but it is Penn & Teller.
It was finally time to enter the theatre and we were in the Joan Sutherland Theatre at the Opera House. I don’t know why but I thought we might be in the larger theatre in my head. We were seated and waited for the show to start.
The famous ampersand of Penn & Teller
The stage at the Joan Sutherland Theatre at the Opera House ready for Penn & Teller
I got talking to the nice lady and her husband next to me and she had the same experience with tickets, it was her third time too to see Penn & Teller and like us was very happy and excited to finally be there to see them in real life (Yes I am sounding like bluey)
The Show
The lights went down and then finally a loud voice announced Penn & Teller. Everyone erupted with screams, clapping and whistles. I think we were all pleased to see them and for the show to start. Maybe there are more people like me and the couple I sat next to that this was their third go to see Penn & Teller.
Penn and Teller – Image from the Opera House Website
Penn & Teller were in their standard dapper-looking suits and looking immaculately dressed (as always).
Penn started saying how they had been trying to come to Australia and we’re very glad they were finally here. Which of course got big claps and screams of appreciation from the audience. Penn then went on to tell us that their show Fool Us has been signed for a 10th season and they really only thought it would last a few years…now going strong at 10 years.
It was also mentioned that Helen Coghlan an Australian magician has fooled Penn & Teller 4 times! (see some of her tricks in the video below).
Penn was busy telling the audience about how we needed to pay attention and about how magicians use misdirection and then during this whole conversation there was a trick about a disappearing chicken and a gorilla with symbols. I will not spoil it for you, but it was amazing! You need to keep a close eye on everyone.
In the audience, there were many children and a few were lucky to be invited on stage to help with some of Penn & Teller’s tricks. A boy named Jack helped Teller with the polyester fabric trick. Teller had a long piece of fabric, tied it in a knot and then once cut, it was revealed as a whole piece of fabric, and the shocked expression on Jack’s face was priceless. Mind you Jack was only 8 and he thought Penn & Teller were amazing and was able to keep the polyester fabric as a souvenir.
There are a few tricks that I am not sure how they were done but being tricked and believing in the magic is magicial enough. The fun, humour and showmanship were first rate and we giggled and were amazed at everything they did. I like many other audience members were on the edge of my seat and looking carefully to hopefully figure out the secret to some tricks but I couldn’t.
Make sure you pay attention to the needle through the camel trick and another that I was amazed by was the rose in the vase. The rose in the vase is casting a shadow onto a piece of paper and Teller uses a knife to cut the shadow while affecting the real rose in the vase. HOW??? How is that possible??
While Teller was performing the rose in the vase shadow trick many in the audicence were yelling, “What?” “What the?” “How is this possible?”
I still don’t know and happy to be fooled as it was a joy to watch two of the best magicians perform live. I did tell hubby that I saved us money…he asked how? I said we didn’t need to fly to Vegas to see Penn & Teller. See winning right there!
If you are wanting to see Penn & Teller they are at the Opera House in Sydney until June 11th and will be having shows in Melbourne and Brisbane. I see from www.viagogo.com that there are still a few tickets but they are selling fast.
It was fantastic to see Penn & Teller in the flesh, well at least from row Q (not the far Q, so don’t think that), It was a fair distance but closer than seeing them on TV. If you get the chance to see Penn & Teller while they are in Australia I would urge you to go.

We are lucky to live in a city where we can be at a beach or the mountains. A few weeks back (in fact it was Mother’s Day), the kids, hubby, and I decided to take the ferry to Manly. We thought it would be fun to explore and spend the day at the beach.
Even Bark the Dog had fun on the ferry
Waiting for the Manly ferry at Circular Quay.
It was a stunning time on the harbour, the weather was great and it was lovely to have no rain for a day. I am sure that it rained the next day and didn’t stop. I must say that the constant rain has been hard to live with, so when it was finally good weather we leapt at the chance and embraced the time out.
Playing with sand is so much fun. We had fun making sandcastles on Manly Beach.
Alexander loved playing at Manly Beach
My little boy had never been on a ferry before, so hubby and I thought it would be extra fun for him and also fun for the older kids too.
Some things we did while we were on our adventure to Manly:
Obviously, catch a ferry to Manly and back to Circular Quay
Teach the older kids about the sides and areas of the boat, Port (left), Starboard ( right) Bow (front), and Stern (back).
Walked around and looked at the shops
Spent time at Manly Beach
Had fun with our six-year-old playing on the beach and running away from the waves
Have an ice cream at Manly Wharf
On the ferry ride there and back, notice the houses, and boats on the harbour and explain to the kids why the waves get choppier when we get close to the heads (heads that go directly out to sea).
See how a simple ferry trip can be a fun adventure and allow you to explore new areas of your own city. It is also a cheap day out with the kids.
Why not grab fish and chips while you are in Manly and bring your swimmers to enjoy the beach. Hopefully, it will still be warm enough for a swim.
Happy kids and especially my little boy who had fun being on a ferry for the first time.

I am very excited to announce that I have been selected as 1 of the 4 finalists for this year’s Fresh Content Awards. The other finalists are:
• Anita Garrido – Created by Anita • Mary Politis – Mary’s Kouzina • Tilly Pamment – Tilly’s Table
Congratulations to everyone that has been nominated and I am super keen to be attending the in-person event in June. The last in-person event was in 2019, in 2020 the whole event was cancelled due to COVID, and 2021 the event was postponed and then cancelled and the winners were announced online.
I have entered this competition since it started, and was lucky to be a finalist last year and also again this year. I would so love to win but am just happy to be acknowledged for my content and hard work.

What is the Fresh Content Awards?
“The Fresh Awards program and gala awards event are an opportunity to showcase heroes within the NSW and ACT fresh produce industry who excel at their profession. Relaunched in 2015 to amalgamate Sydney Markets’ long-running retailer excellence programs (Greengrocer and Florist of the Year Awards, and the Fruit & Vegetable and Flower Grower of the Year Awards), the Fresh Awards has grown to also include awards to acknowledge fresh produce wholesalers and bloggers who champion fresh produce and the people grow or sell fruit, vegetable or flowers.”
What did I enter for the 2022 Fresh Content Awards?
This year I chose passionfruit as my key ingredient. It was in season and I just love passionfruit. My aim was to do something different with the fruit that wasn’t icing on a cake or in a slice.

Now I need to find an outfit to attend the awards night in June. I do have an idea of what I would like but it is a matter of seeing it and it also being priced just right.
Wish me luck on the night!

Today is the day before Mother’s Day and it has been a shit show. In actual fact total crazy chaos at many points throughout the day.
I have had my head in my hands, been in tears and just lost for why my three offspring are acting like beasts. Yes, they are just plain horrible today, and unfortunately on many other occasions.
I am angry and annoyed at everyone’s horrible behaviour – could not find a picture of a mum but this conveys my feelings
I wonder what led to this. Is it me? I do hope not. I have tried so hard to instil order, tell them to be nice and explain that they need to help others. However, no matter how hard I try I am constantly saying:
“Just help others”
“Help please!”
“Do as you are told”
“Why is this still not done, I told you hours ago to pick this up”
“If you did it the first time it would be done now”
“If you actually tidied up it would be done and then you could do something for yourself. Instead, you decide to take a whole day and argue about everything and still do nothing.”
Some have said that the older two are just hormonal…well yes that might be the case but it is not an excuse for not helping and being downright horrible all the time. If I acted the way they are when I was the same age I wouldn’t have been let out of my room and of course not allowed dinner either.
As you can imagine I have had enough and at many points throughout the day I have had fantasies about having a shower, getting dressed and driving somewhere and just doing something for myself (Without telling them this is what I am doing). I do think that Mother’s Day might not be any better. I can hope but it brings me back to the main issue I have with being a mother:
You should not be celebrated and helped on one day alone. You need help and the niceness to be everyday of the year. People need to listen to you, help and assist, and be pleasant to boot. No arguing about having to pick something up from a messy room that is not yours!
I am not the servant.
I am not a slave.
I am a person that actually wants to do more with my life than to keep on telling people to help and what to do. I am sick of the arguments, fights and who does what and also why they cannot due to the fact that they did it before. Geez if this was only a reason for me to not help.
So according to my kids, I can get out of the following as I have done it all before and it is not my job!
Doing the laundry
Cleaning up the rooms
Folding and putting away the laundry
Cooking
Reminding people of events and things that are important
Shopping for food and other essentials
Buying gifts and posting them to people (as I am the one that does this for everyone in this family)
Caring for others – maybe someone else can step up while I have a good break
Probably loads more points but I cannot think of them at the moment – I will claim that due to me being an overworked mum I can name other points later.
In the current climate, I feel that if I say or do something it gets ignored. I tell someone to do something and it does not happen. I ask for help and it doesn’t happen.
God forbid I have a horrible accident and bleeding out and the kids argue whose turn it is to call the ambulance. I think I would die on my floor if that was the case.
The girls told me one of their friend’s mums just left for a four-day camping trip during the last school holidays. They told me that this mum hadn’t told the kid that they were going on holiday alone, however, I would think that this woman told her partner and all was good. She decided she needed a break alone and went for it. Maybe I need to do this.
I am thinking of declining any family-forced outing tomorrow and would love to take off and do my own thing for Mother’s Day. I need to get some jeans and a nice trip to the shops, a quiet lunch on my own would be rather relaxing.
Are you feeling the same way about Mother’s Day? Or are you just wanting people to stop ignoring you and appreciate you and what you do for them? I believe that some ignoring others and not giving others what they want might wake them up to their silly behaviour. I am exhausted and so over the rudeness.
Oh, and one thing that fucking annoyed me so much was the fact that one of the oldest cannot hang out the clothes properly. She just dumped clothes and other items on the line without opening them up, so shirts were folded over themselves with sleeves still inside the shirt, also jumpers were folded over and just lumped on the line, expecting them to dry was just ridiculous! I ended up redoing it all. You would think they would get it by now, I have told them over a million times. I believe they are doing this on purpose so they don’t have to help! Why can’t they do anything I ask???? Also, why is it a shit job that needs to be redone so, in reality, there is no point asking for help in the first place!
What about you? I think booking that holiday alone is a good idea. I will look into this as a priority. Now, where to go that will not cost the earth is the next question.

What have you been watching lately? Well, I have a few things I have binged watched, and thoroughly enjoyed. Below is a list of shows in no particular order.
In this post are 12 shows to binge-watch – I hope you enjoy them as much as I did
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 4
I have watched all the other seasons of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and was keen to see what would happen in the fourth installment.
What is the 4th season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel About?
“The fourth season finds Midge enraged and humiliated after being fired. She struggles to restart her career and vows to only do headliner gigs, not opening acts. Complicating matters, a Daily News reporter continually disparages Midge’s performances in print. Meanwhile, a jealous Sophie Lennon again thwarts Midge’s career. Joel’s landlords are unhappy that his successful club draws attention to their illegal activities. Joel also copes with girlfriend Mei’s unexpected pregnancy, his mother’s meddling, and his father’s heart attack. Midge becomes the comic emcee at a strip club, seemingly content to languish there until police raid the place. Lenny Bruce gets Midge out in time, then helps reboot her career.” Wikipedia.
Severance
Severance is a very mysterious show that only reveals little bits of the story and makes you question everything. It always ends with you learning a little bit more but in fact still not knowing mostly everything and yes leaves you with more unanswered questions. Even though the show makes you want more it is intriguing, and engaging and has you wonder what is going to happen next.
What is Severance About?
“From Ben Stiller and creator Dan Erickson, Severance centres around Mark Scout (Adam Scott), a leader of a team of office workers whose memories have been surgically divided between their work and personal lives.
Poster for Severance
This experiment in ‘work-life balance’ is called into question as Mark finds himself at the centre of an unravelling mystery that will force him to confront the true nature of his work… and of himself.
Severance features Adam Scott, who stars alongside Academy Award winner Patricia Arquette, Emmy-winner John Turturro, Britt Lower, Zach Cherry, Dichen Lachman, Jen Tullock, Tramell Tillman, Michael Chernus, and Academy Award winner Christopher Walken.”
The last episode ends with you learning more about Hellie R and I had no idea about her real life (referenced as her outie). I am sure you will be shocked when you see this too… and no I will not give you any spoilers.
Russian Doll
I was wondering what to watch and found Russian Doll on Netflix, and yes I am late to the party to have suddenly discovered season 1. This late discovery has an upside, season 2 comes out April 20th, and looks very interesting. The show has taken a turn that I had not thought of. In season 2 it appears that it is playing with time travel. At the time of posting this post, I have only watched 2 episodes of the second series and so far it is very good and not the way I thought the time travel would occur.
Russian Doll Season 2
What is Russian Doll About?
Nadia Vulvokov who is played by Natasha Lyonne dies in horrible accidents and also silly accidents that you think couldn’t kill you but they do kill Nadia. She always comes back to life and relives the same night of her birthday. Nadia ends up in the bathroom every time she comes back to life and then wonders why she is there and no one else is going through what she is. No one knows that she is living the same day. Although she lives the same day over and over again (yes a little like groundhog day) Nadia manages to have a few things change, but she keeps on dying and yes ending up back in the bathroom at her birthday party yet again.
During a freak meeting, Nadia meets Alan Charlie Barnett who is going through the same thing as Nadia. Alan keeps on dying and reliving the same day soon. Nadia and Alan work on a plan to try and break the cycle and finally live a different day and of course not die.
It is a clever and funny show that also has dramatic and touching moments. Be prepared for a lot of swearing and Nadia smoking what appears to be boxes and boxes of cigarettes (as a nonsmoker I find this harder than the drinking in the show). Even with the smoking, it is a fun and addictive show that is a refreshing take on reliving the same moment over and over again.
The Chestnut Man
What is Chestnut Man About?
The Chestnut Man is a Danish drama. It starts in 1987 with a horrible murder of a whole family but with only two survivors, kids from the family were the only people to live after a terrible violent event. ” More than thirty years later, in present-day Copenhagen, a young woman is found murdered in a playground with one of her hands missing. Detective Naia Thulin is assigned to the case. With her reluctant new partner, Mark Hess, they notice a tiny figurine made of chestnuts lying next to the body. A mysterious piece of evidence is soon discovered on the chestnut man—the fingerprint of a missing girl, the daughter of politician Rosa Hartung.”
I was hooked on this show and needed to find out who the Chestnut Man was and more about the 30-year mystery. It is not a show for kids and is just for adults only. Many of the images are quite grizzly and would give kids nightmares. I for one love murder mysteries and a show that has good suspense as well as a story gets me hooked, and that is what the Chestnut Man did for me.
Safe
What is Safe about?
Tom Delaney played by Michael C. Hall is a widowed surgeon. During the first episode Tom’s teenage daughter goes missing and during his search to find her he begins uncovering the dark secrets of the people closest to him.
I quite liked this show as it was a thriller and a who done it and one that had you guessing what would happen next. However, due to Michael C. Hall’s English accent, I was rather curious about that due to the fact that he is indeed American and has never to my knowledge played anyone that is not American. It took me a while to see him as an English father, and mind you he did a good job but for me, it was his accent. I felt that he could have been an American father in England and that would have made his role much more convincing.
Bridgerton Season 2
I watched series 1 of Bridgerton and thought it was very entertaining, mainly the very good-looking men, and the scenes where they are naked were a nice touch to the story. I was not only taken by the good-looking cast but also by the pomp and pageantry of costumes, decor and so much more of the show.
What is Bridgerton Season 2 About?
Did you know? “Bridgerton‘s second season is the most-watched English-language television series on Netflix with 627.11 million hours viewed since its March 25, 2022 launch.”
Grey’s Anatomy Series 18
I have watched Grey’s Anatomy since it started 18 years ago…wow it has been running a long time. In one episode in Series 18, they did flashbacks of when some characters started at the hospital and gosh they looked so young. If you have never watched an episode you have 18 years of shows to catch up on, I have been totally involved in the characters’ lives.
“Grey’s Anatomy is an American medical drama television series. The show “focuses on the lives of surgical interns, residents, and attendings as they develop into seasoned doctors while balancing personal and professional relationships.” Wikipedia

I purchased two Hot Wheels Jumbo Eggs for my little boy. He is obsessed with cars, especially Hot Wheels, and does not eat chocolate or like it so a different gift for Easter was needed.
While at BigW I saw that Hot Wheels had a few eggs with lollies and toys. I thought this was the perfect option.
Easter Sunday morning arrived and my little boy opened his Hot Wheel eggs. I did expect maybe a car due to it being Hot Wheels but no that was not to be. What do you think was inside the eggs?
Well once they were opened I discovered that each egg had exactly the same thing:
Bags of little jelly beans
Lollipops
Stickers
Spinning tops
Noisemakers (think that is what they are called)
What was in the Hot Wheels Easter Eggs – lollipops, stickers, spinning tops, and noisemakers
After my six-year-old opened his eggs I must say I was very disappointed in what was inside. No car???? It is Hot Wheels after all. Why spinning tops and noisemakers? Every Hot Wheels mad kid would have been annoyed and upset about not getting a car.
Hot Wheels Spinning Top
It didn’t need to be a great car, just a car, and yes I know that having a sub-average car might be something else to complain about but for the price point, I think a car of any sort would be better than no car.
As you will see my little boy has taken a sharpie to his big egg. He thought it looked cool, although as a mum I was sad about what it offered. I mentioned to hubby what was in the egg and he was shocked…. Hubby said, “Why didn’t it have a car?????” I said I don’t know and I agreed, I bought them hoping that it might have a car. I got two eggs to make sure if there were different toys we might have a chance for different toys. Little did I know they would be the same, exactly the same!
I think I paid $5 each for each egg and I did hope for at least a car in one of them.
Have you purchased a gift that you thought had something else inside to be very disappointed and upset at your purchase? Let me know.

Last year the Easter Bunny did not clean his paws when he came to our house.
I know, it was very rude of him, but we were nice about it and cleaned up the mess.
We told the girls that it was nice enough to get some chocolate and he took the trouble to visit our house.
The girls have remembered this, and tell people every now and then that the Easter Bunny came to our house, and that he left paw prints and daddy had to clean them all up. Poor daddy.
The girls were so taken with the fact that the Easter Bunny came and he gave them chocolate eggs and bunnies.
Now you might say, “What do you mean the Easter Bunny had dirty paws?, well I never!”
Well the girls were so curious about the paw prints that they investigated and wanted to find out where the bunny had been. I left carrots out the night before and they were eaten in the morning, he was a hungry bunny.
So if you want to amaze you little one, paw prints are a great way to do it.
We cut out the image and used it as a stencil to then sprinkle flour on the floor, this was easy to clean up and left the idea that the Easter Bunny got his paws dirty before he came into our house.
As Easter is approaching soon, thought that this idea might be of interest.

I have a new episode for Bluey, it is called “Early Dinner”.
Need an early dinner to allow me to go back to my hotel and relax
The episode would go like this.
Chilli has a work getaway organised. Bandit would look after the kids, Bluey and Bingo. Chilli kisses everyone goodbye and starts her journey to the city. Chilli then has to decide; does she meet up with her workmates or does she stay and relax in her hotel room?
She decides to stay in her hotel room and relaxes with a warm bath, then watch her own tv while eating dinner from room service. The episode ends with Bandit being super busy with kids wanting to constantly play and Chilli falling asleep in the star position on her bed in her hotel room.
Now cut to actual real life and not a Bluey episode…
A few weeks back I met some of my teammates in the city for dinner and an early morning start for a HUGE strategy day at work. While deciding where to meet and the time I explained if it is not good for the others, I would be perfectly happy to get dinner on my own and spend the time in my hotel room doing my own thing.
Image from https://mr-heeler.tumblr.com/
I know this sounds very antisocial but as a busy mum to three kids, finally being on my own was wonderful. I did want to meet up with my colleagues but also would be very happy not to as well. I was conflicted.
Once I divulged this to some of the ladies I work with, one told me she totally relates. She then told me, if I wanted to just stay in my hotel and not meet up that was fine too.
One suggestion was to have an “Early Dinner” so that I can socialise and still have me time at the hotel.
Before kids, I would have never entertained an early dinner and now that is fine and a good idea. And yes, perfectly acceptable.
What a dilemma! Socialise or be antisocial? Or finally, have some me time and relax!
Have you been in this situation before? Spoiler alert: I ended up socialising and did really enjoy it as well as finally being on my own in my hotel room.
