One of my girls has been ill. Tonsillitis again! Not good at all. I have had the fevers, crying and upsets all weekend and of course yesterday. Yesterday was Monday and she should have been in pre-school, however she was being comforted by yours truly. Hugs, cuddles, and kisses were in order.
I got an appointment at the doctors and she is now on antibiotics and last night did not have a fever. Today seems much better, as she is running and telling jokes. The doctor said that once she does not have a temperature she should be fine for school, so with that advice both kids are at pre-school today, and I am one happy mummy.
It is good that she is on the mend and becoming her old self. One thing that surprised me was that this child has had tonsillitis four times in the last six months. The doctor I saw was new, but he suggested this was not good and gave me a referral to a surgeon so that she can get them removed. I did explain that I got mine out when I was three, my husband does not have his nor does the girls grandfather. Could be a family thing.
We might see how it goes…not sure but she might need to have them out in the future. She did not like hearing this. I ended up calming her down and told her that it will all be o.k.
While looking after my unwell little girl, it got me thinking… What is the food that gives you comfort when you are unwell? My mum used to make me Vegemite toast and a glass of Milo to make me feel better. If not toast, a jaffle or pressed sandwich with cheese and Vegemite. When I am unwell or not feeling the best I go back to that food.
My little girl ended up eating Weet-Bix as I think it was easier on her throat. Also as she was sick she was not that hungry so it was best to feed her something.
What are your kids favourite comfort foods? What are yours?
I planned to write this post on Friday night and then I was too tired and not being able to keep my eyes open was a sign that sleep was needed. I was then going to have it all organised for Saturday, however one of my girls picked up a bug and was unwell and had a temperature. Due to this child being unwell it resulted with mummy having to have constant cuddles with her all day. This unforeseen event meant that the post was not online. So here it is the update from the bloggers brunch that has been promised.
Getting there
As you all know last Friday I attended the bloggers brunch, I took the kids with me as they had babysitting which was a great idea. It was an early start to the day and I was up at 5.30am to get ready and got the kids up at 6am. I figured out that we needed to leave at roughly 8am or earlier as I wanted to get the car washed.
The twins were good sports and got up without a fuss when I woke them. I hate waking up kids to go somewhere. It is always the way, you want to sleep in and they get up early. When you need to go somewhere you have to wake them up. I am sure this does not just happen to me.
We all had our breakfast and I was organised the night before and had all our clothes laid out so that we could just shower and get dressed. We managed to get ready and the twins were even on time to have a television show before we left the house.
All bags were packed, kids were in the car and we were off. I must say that I made both kids go to the toilet before we left and I did also. We had a long drive to the city. Although it was long, I love the trip and the adventure of going somewhere for the day.
As we were making good time, I stopped to get the car washed to make it look a bit nicer than it was. I fueled up as well and while inside paying I thought I should go to the toilet again as I felt that I needed to go, I brushed it off and thought, NO I can wait until I get there. Now readers, remember this.
Car cleaned and now we are all off to the city. As I approached the city, I was wanting to find a bathroom more and more. I know I should have gone before at the petrol station but as I was on the highway I could not just turn off the road. I had nowhere to go! I just powered on and held on. We got closer and closer to the venue and were nearly there.
During one stage I was taking deep breaths and trying not to think on what I really wanted to do, find a bathroom! I was bracing myself for the girls to then tell me that they needed to go to the toilet, but that was not to happen. Thank god for that.
During this whole episode my GPS that is run on my iPhone was draining my battery and I had very little power left. Do I hang on or risk it to get to the function or do I turn off to then find a bathroom and then get lost. This was the dilemma.
I did know where the venue was, however I had never driven there myself and knew that there were some roads that were turn left only or maybe turn right only, and did not want to get stuck in a constant problem of being on the wrong street and just around the corner. This has happened before.
To make a long story short, I could not take it anymore. I turned off the road and then turned left, left and left again. I parked in a no parking place. Told the kids to get out of the car, and found a church that had toilets. To my great relief they were open and all of us managed to use their facilities. However during this my phone battery was on its last legs and when we managed to get back to the car, it had 1% battery power left. When I started to resume the map on the GPS it was starting to shut down. Typical and other words that are not fit to print were uttered!
Great, this is just what I needed! Oh well, I knew we were around the corner just a matter of getting on the right road and lane. I saw two ladies talking and said where we were off to and that my phone GPS had died. They told me to turn left, then right and then left and we would be there. They were right and we got there with 30 mins to spare. Thank you ladies, whoever you are, you were a lifesaver.
What was the brunch like?
Kids were successfully dropped off at the childcare that was provided by Dial an Angel, which was a great idea. It was nice to walk kid free for a bit and talk to other adults and network with other bloggers.
At first I did not know where to start. There were a lot people milling about and stalls for the brands that were showcasing their products and services at the brunch. I decided to make my way to all the stalls to get an idea of what they were offering and find out about all their products/services.
I made my way to Choosi and Mamee before the welcome to all bloggers. We were then seated to listen to the talks by the guest speakers. There were three guest speakers:
Ingrid Poulson from Steadfast Training, spoke about resilience and being positive
Tracie Walker, Kmart General Manager of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability, and mum of seven year old twins.
The talks were inspiring and made me think that more people needed to give back. Ingrid had suffered tragedy and has managed to rebuild her life, Tracie has built a great corporate career and helps others through programs at schools and overseas, and Elizabeth works at a great company that helps women with corporate attire to gain a job.
I was very taken with the Fitted for Work business. I think helping women in need to get the job is a great idea to support. Fitted for Work help women how are suffering disadvantage get work and keep it. They fit women with appropriate business wear so that women can present well at an interview, also interview coaching is part of the deal.
Since they are a non for profit business they are always looking for money, clothes and anything that you can spare. Do you have a business outfit and accessories that you are not using or don’t want anymore. Is it good quality and in need of a good home? Why not donate it to Fitted for Work.
After the talks, I mingled with other bloggers and saw the other brands, Brauer, Medela, Naty and Optus. I handed out my business cards that magically were delivered by the post man the day before the event, even though they were supposed to come the first week of August. The post man must have known I needed them. Just worked out well.
Lunch was delicious however I thought the kids would be served an appropriate meal for them but they shared what we ate. Since my kids are fussy, it was mini chocolate muffins and the like that got eaten. Mamee had a nice gift bag with their rice treats and the girls nibbled on them after the brunch at the park.
I even got inspired and shared an idea for an existing product of KMart’s. You never know it might be in the works soon and at your shop soon! If it happens will take pictures and let you know it was my idea! J Well you never know, right?
One thing that was rather sad about the brunch was that my battery on my phone had died. I had no charger on me and of course no iPad or other device. Many stalls were running competitions that required you to take a picture and post to twitter. As I was minus technology I missed out on all this. It made me think that I need to be prepared for Problogger and have all devices charged and ready to go, have my charger with me just in case.
I am also thinking of a better bag to take to the conference at the gold coast as things got lost on the bottom of my hand bag and it was hard to get things out in a hurry. Need to be better organised for next time. What bag do you take to conferences? Do you find it hard to find things in a hurry? Do you have business card holders and if so do they come in handy? I was going to get one but have not had the chance as yet.
Three dial an angel ladies came up to me on separate occasions to say how well behaved my girls were and if we ever needed a babysitter they would love to help me out. That was great news, and they even service the Blue Mountains, so that was good to know.
As this was my first bloggers brunch it was nice to meet bloggers face to face rather than in the virtual world. It was also a bonus to be introduced to such lovely brands and have the opportunity to be considered for brand ambassador or similar.
Things I would do differently: Maybe not have a coffee before a big drive to the city, better bag to find things in, and take my iPhone charger to ensure I might be able to do more at the event.
If you went to the brunch, what were your thoughts? Did you have a good time? Have you been to events like this, and if so what are your tips to make it a successful day?
I am keen to see what the outcome of the brunch will be. If nothing arises, it was nice to be included, have a day out and have fun with my girls.
Dolls kissing, not the twins but nice pic. Image courtesy of Toa55 at FreeDigitalPhotos.net
The other day after picking up the twins from pre-school I was told that one will marry one of the boys at school. I asked why this was so, and she said that they like each other and they both have decided to get married. I was rather taken back to say the least. I know this is just play, they are four years old and soon to be five so not like they are running away to get married just yet. Well I hope not!
I asked the other child if they are marrying anyone and she mentioned the same boy. I told them that two people cannot marry the same person. They got angry at me and told me that I did not get it, and they were marrying the same boy. Not sure if the girls are taken with them or if the boy has used his magic and the girls are under a spell. This boy is very nice, kind and gentle and the girls are good mates with him and have a great time. It is a nice friendship.
Yesterday I arrived to pick the kids up and while putting them in the car they told me that they kissed this boy and he kissed them, as they were going to be married they said married people kiss each other. I explained that just because you kiss someone hello or bye does not mean that you are marrying them. Not sure if they are thinking that all people who kiss need to be married. If this is the case all of you that are not getting married are in trouble! You should put it right and go and get married NOW! Well according to the girls that is.
Maybe it is a school crush? However the girls still don’t like boys on the whole. Only some boys are oaky, and this one must be super special to get a kiss and for him to kiss the girls.
Have your kids done the same? If this is pre-school I shudder to think what kindy and the rest of primary school will be like. Send in your comments.
And now for some controversy. Some believe that it is not wise to vaccinate their kids and that is their belief, however I think it is dangerous not to be vaccinated, and this is my belief. Each to their own right? In an article by Sue Dunlevy she writes that the Health Minister Tanya Pilbersek is wanting to make sure that kids that are not vaccinated are not allowed to enroll in school.
Well, with the fact that our world is getting smaller and smaller. Travel is easier and more and more people visit so many different countries with so much ease (plane travel is cheaper and flights go just about anywhere now days), is it any wonder that disease and sickness spreads more easily. I am not saying that there is a disease lurking but the known ones that we have vaccinations for are growing legs due to the huge groups that are not vaccinating their kids.
I know there has been talk, and research on the vaccinations causing autism and other issues. I for one think that if you vaccinated your child and was soon after diagnosed with autism that would be such a shock, a blow and I can clearly understand how you as a parent can think that it is the needle that might have done it. However there has been a lot of research stating that autism diagnoses happens at roughly the age that you get the last lot of vaccinations as a 4 year old, the doctors are saying that there is no link due to the vaccinations but it is just the timing of when the diagnose happens for the child. Having the needles at 4 years and possible diagnose at the same age would make you think twice.
In a document from Australian Health Department it lists why you should get vaccinated and also shows that the dangers are not there. According to the Australian Health Department document:
“Reductions in vaccination rates can lead to diseases coming back. This has happened in the past with polio in many developed countries, with diphtheria in the former Soviet Union and, more recently, with measles in the United Kingdom.”
“There has also been a proposed theory linking the MMR vaccine and autism specifically. However, this was due to one published study that has since been retracted due to the data being fraudulent. All epidemiological studies since have disproven this theory. The concern about the relationship between MMR vaccine and autism is further discussed in the section ‘Safety concerns: Specific vaccines’.”
However as a mother of two kids that are soon to go off to school and are fully immunised I would like to make sure that they are not exposed to illness, disease or other things that can easily be prevented. I do understand that you cannot prevent everything from happening but one thing that is in my power is making sure that my little joys, my loves of my life stay healthy and that is making sure that they are fully immunised, I can minimise the risk of getting very ill or dying from a disease that we have not had for many years and can prevent with medicine.
“The World Health Organisation says immunisation rates higher than 93 per cent are required to stop the spread of killer diseases like whooping cough and measles.” Sue Dunlevy, The Telegraph.
I do understand that others feel passionately about the fact that they have not immunised but why would you want to have the following come back and threaten your kids or others:
Measles – An infectious viral disease causing fever and a red rash on the skin, typically occurring in childhood
Mumps – A contagious and infectious viral disease causing swelling of the parotid salivary glands in the face, and a risk of sterility in adult males
Rubella – A contagious viral disease, with symptoms like mild measles. it can cause fetal malformation if contracted in early pregnancy
Varicella – A herpesvirus that causes chicken pox and shingles; herpes zoster
Pertussis – A highly contagious disease caused by the bacterium bordete, commonly called whooping cough
I wanted to get a percentage of people that are immunised compared to ones that are not. I could not get a figure on this, however in a Mamamia article I did find that more than 77,000 children across Australia are not fully immunised. Now that is shocking!
I do understand the worry with the media and reports about autism being linked and other issues after getting vaccinated. It is due to the fact that Australia and other countries similar have been vaccinated that we have a good health record, however that said with people who are not getting immunised this will not be the case and those people are at risk and will put others at risk also.
I for one would never forgive myself if I did not vaccinate myself, or my children and someone died or got so sick that they never fully recovered. I would never ever be able to stop blaming myself if this happened, that’s why I make sure to be vaccinated to ensure our health and others.
When I enrolled the twins at the school they wanted to check that their immunisations were up to date. I wonder what they would have had me do if I said, we have not immunisaed them. I am not up for home schooling so glad that this would not be an issue.
We support vaccinations and were making sure that the twins got theirs done on time and were up to date. The government was making sure to pay parents an incentive to make sure their children got immunised but the government stopped the last payment for the twins, it was not just us, when the girls got their 4 year old shots, it fell out of the cut off date when they stopped the payments for all. We would have been eligible to get a bit of money back that I think we are entitled to, however due to it being after the cut off date we are not. The money would help but it is not the argument here, why have an incentive plan and then fail to see it to the end. We would have immunised anyway.
Have you made the decision not to vaccinate? Have you had to change your mind due to enrolling kids at school? What happens if you decide not to vaccinate? Let me know.
As said this post is a bit controversial but I have very strong feelings for the immunisation of everyone! Why not prevent things that we have the power to.
Sexy Maid, not a devious one but just as glam. Image courtesy of adamr at FreeDigitalPhotos.net
Ever since Desperate Housewives ended I was sad, what will I watch? The same happened when Melrose Place ended as well. Yes, I love those types of shows. Now I have a new love, Devious Maids.
The show was created by the same person who created Desperate Housewives, Marc Cherry and one of the producers is Eva Longoria from Desperate Housewives. I have now caught up on watching all four episodes of the first series and hope that I will be able to see more. It is great to see another show along the same lines that has intrigue, gossip, and mystery. I cannot wait to see what happens next.
For those that don’t know, there is a maid called, ‘Flora’, she rushes to write something down, a note after she has been shot/stabbed (not sure) and she hides it. She ends up making her way out to the pool amid a party that her employers are hosting. She falls and dies in the pool. This is the introduction to the show… great don’t you think! Well I did. It certainly gets you thinking and guessing.
Now after four episodes I have learnt more about poor Flora and also the other maids and rich people who are the maid’s employers. It is getting very interesting and I won’t spoil it for those that are not as up to date as I.
One thing that I hope is that this show does not get cancelled. Every time I get involved somehow the show seems to be controversial and or not getting enough ratings and therefore means I never find out what will happen to the characters. This happened with GCB, I thought it a very clever, funny and a witty show, however it was cancelled and I for one was very upset about this decision. Why can’t they take the show online like many shows are run now days? I for one would watch and support it. Maybe it is due to advertising and not getting funding. Still sad none the less.
Do you feel sorry for Grant Show’s character in the show, I know I do. His wife on the show is not nice and I hope that he stands up and leaves her! I love the spark between his lovely maid Rosie and his character Spence. I have always loved Grant Show and I am yelling at the TV, leave her you deserve better! Oh well, I think there might be more yelling to help Grant, or shall I say Spence.
Have you started watching Devious Maids? What are your thoughts on the new show? Glad that I now have a show that is similar to my other ones. Send in your comments.
Kids Spot is having mums create their own mum truths… what is yours? It is a competition and there are prizes to be won, why not give it a go. It is a bit of fun. Some are very funny, why not take a peak at the gallery.
I had to take the kids to the shop to get their mate a birthday present for his birthday party next week. While we were there both girls would not take their hands off toy story dolls, I have managed to get them some toy story plush dolls for their birthday however the ones in the shop were great, taller, spoke and were much more expensive, $69 each to be exact. I could not afford to get each kid a doll each and then all the stuff that came with them so I found the next best thing, Ebay and it was all sorted.
I was so happy that they wanted the dolls and hope they like the ones I have organized for them, I have got all the characters, Woody, Jessie, Buzz Lightyear, and Bulls Eye the horse. Before I got the Ebay toy story dolls I sourced Bulls Eye the horse from Target but I got 2 horses so that each child can have a character on a horse, now all characters will have a horse so has worked out well and has not cost the earth. I feel very proud of my purchase and the fact it was not as expensive as all the stores were selling them for. Is it strange to want to be super proud of this shopping purchase, and skill to find a cheaper price? Oh well, I am! I am sure this happens to others as well not just me. Let me know if you feel like this once you organise something wonderful.
While at playgroup yesterday the kids were playing with Lego and asking about the one that they wanted (Lego Friends), I told them if they are good they might get it but it is very expensive so probably not right away. This was met with upset faces, and maybe at Christmas mummy???? Little do they know is that we have organised (we got them a big set of Lego Friends) what they want but the family is all going to put in for it so not to make so expensive for one person. They will be so excited to find that they are getting things they would like and I must say they are to be very spoilt as they are getting what they have asked for, not spoilt as we are not getting many things, just a few.
Since I was very lucky to win the blogging competition from 1stAvailable.com.au I am able to take the kids to the Gold Coast for their birthday so we are not spending a lot here to maximize our trip in September.
Have you had moments in the shop where your kid/kids want the toy that you have already arranged for their birthday or Christmas? Have you had a secret smile on your face as you are getting excited to see their reaction, I know I am!
I am going to take the plush toys with us on our trip as the kids will celebrate their actual birthday while we are away. This way they will squish in the bag fine and they can have them to play with in the hotel room and on the way home from our trip. Plus it will be nice to give them an actual present on their real day.
What things have you organised secretly for your little ones?

I’m sure you are all in the same boat. The kids are back at school, although pre-school it is still great, however only for 3 days. Due to a pupil free day this week it has been 2 days for the first week back. I have a house full of things to tidy, sort, remove, throw away and of course cleaning and yet more cleaning to do.
I managed on day 1 of being home alone without kids for a few hours to clean the kitchen, dining room, and do about 5 loads of laundry. This just made it harder to put things away due to the clean laundry that was in piles waiting to get sorted.
Day 2 of being home alone without kids, I went to the post office and collected the mail, checked out a shop for clothes for myself/kids and toys for birthday pressie ideas and of course things to maybe layby for Christmas. No luck as everyone has stockpiled all toys and goods as there has been no shops to purchase from since last November. I did manage to get some much needed singlets for the twins and found some time to try on some dresses that looked great on the coat hanger and not great on me! Probably for the best as I did not spend any money there, well except for the singlets that is.
Still on day 2, I went shopping for food and things for the house, went home and put it all away and then tidied up kitchen, put more laundry on, hung out laundry and then made lunch. After lunch folded clothes put them all away, then had to go out and pick up the girls from school. Then we went to the pool for the kids to start their swimming lessons. It has been a busy day.
Still more needs to be done in the house and at least I have 3 days next week to get stuck into it. This year I have thought that we get one bigger present and just pay a bit each. One family member managed to track down the desired toys and all is right with the world now, we will all just pay a little bit rather than one person paying a huge amount. Glad that is sorted, but now need to create room for the new things that will enter our lives.
Do you find that you have many things to do in your time without kids? I do try and get stuck into a room and give that a big clean up and move on from there, however I still need to organise the laundry, give the kitchen a once over and go to the shops every now and then. These time wasters do suck your free time. Maybe I should plan more ahead and do home delivery more often for the shopping. Today I just wanted more essentials, milk, bread, yoghurt, fruit and some vegetables. Nothing fancy, but it does eat into your day.
Do you have a plan to whiz through your house post school holidays? I must say this house needs to be more organised and that is my plan! Stay tuned for how I go with sorting the kid’s toys next week. I have many baby toys or things that are too young for them anymore. I am going to give to charity, other toys that are broken will be chucked.
I suppose every parent goes through the manic tidy up after school holidays end. I did find myself laughing that many of my friends were doing the same thing the last day or so. Send in your tips and tricks to work through the house with limited hours. What do you do?
Yes lunches are packed and mummy is very keen to send the twins back to pre-school! Bring it on I say. Are you happy your little ones are going back to school? My kids are happy to see their mates tomorrow and mummy has so much housework to do it is not funny so that will be fun, not really but needs to be done.
I am tired as I have watched my shows and had some wine from our adventures on the weekend. Now I am tired and need to go off to bed to rest. I hope that no little person wants to come snuggling tonight as I really need my sleep. So night night all, and off to rest before a big day of tidying, cleaning and rejoicing that the kids are back at school even though for a couple of days. It is only pre-school still.
What are you doing if your kids are back at school? Relaxing or running around like a mad women tidying? I want to get things in order to then be able to relax. Still would love a housekeeper or even a cleaner would be nice.
The girls are on their second last term before they start big school next year, I cannot believe these two years have flown past and my little babies are acting so grown up. I spent a day with them today and aside from going to the hospital to check on Lillian’s hand and fingers (it got squished in their bedroom door) all fine and well but the rest of the day was spent cuddling, listening to their stories, playing games and of course helping them take the next step with reading and writing. More to do and hope that it will help when they go to Kindy next year. My big little girls. 🙂
One of the girls has taken to call the other a different name. It is similar to her name but shorter and of course a bit different. It is cute and interesting that she has done this and even more curious that the other child answers to this new name.
It is a nice affectionate thing to have done on this girls part, she deeply loves her sister and it shows by her giving her such a cute lovely new name. They are both so connected and I am sure that is due to being twins but also due to being together so often.
Has your child given your other child a new name? Does the other child answer to this new name? Was it a nice name or a bad one that had to be stopped? Send in your comments.

Do you have one child that is stubborn and will not wear anything you want them to. I do! One of my girls is very headstrong and is only wanting to wear dresses and skirts. Due to it being winter and living in the Blue Mountains it is freezing and getting colder and colder. This does not seem to bother this child, she wears what she wants and braves the weather.
I do my best to put jackets, skivvies, jumpers and the like on her but all to be taken off in defiance. Do you have this problem? This child is wanting to wear things that are pretty or are more colourful! Why can’t you just wear some warm track pants and jumpers to keep warm, we are only going to the park! When I finally get a jacket on her she is in tears due to the fact that her pretty top or dress will not be seen by the other kids.
It is not a fashion parade, or is it? Maybe it is and mummy has not got the memo? My other child loves dresses and other things however loves to be warm and normally opts for the track pants, jumper and jacket. This difference has always been there, one loves the warmth and the other likes to be cooler and strips off often due to being hot or getting overheated.
This difference is like myself and hubby. I love the heat and he likes to be cooler, very interesting it has been copied in the kids.
Do you have twins or multiples has this been a common occurrence, fighting over clothes. The child that is obsessed with skirts and dresses also likes tight stretch pants. Is this a flash forward to teenage years? Will I get “Mummy it is not tight enough?”
I do think that the girls growing up in an environment that is cold and will be acclimatised to it just like I miss the heat of Queensland and the beach. I grew up in the heat and spent nearly all my waking moments at the beach swimming or exploring.
Maybe they will long for the cold if they ever move away when older. It will be interesting to see. Would the one child that loves the heat go to a place that is warmer and the child that likes the cold stay here or go somewhere similar? Only time will tell.
Let me know how you get through the fights over clothes, send in your stories. Are girls worse to dress than boys, or do you think it comes down to personality? I for one think it is personality.
We all went off to the local RSL for a free kids disco. They had face painting, balloons, a clown (Mr Puzzles) and of course music to dance to. The kids were a little shy at first and with mummies help warmed up while watching Mr Puzzles do his show. They could not stop giggling with the magic show and had a blast.
It was topped off by a pre-school mate of theirs joining us for the disco fun and then we all went off to dinner at the local chinese place. All in all a good night was had by all.
I must say well done to the RSL as it was good to have some fun free entertainment for the kids.
What have you been doing these school holidays? Or if you are not on school holidays, what have you done to keep your kids busy? Send in your comments.
What should have happened, the parcel gets delivered. Image courtesy of stockimages at FreeDigitalPhotos.net
I was on a high due to winning a blog competition and just living in fantasy world for a little while. This was to end very soon when I get a call from hubby. He asked me if the parcel arrived. I then asked, “What parcel?”, then after a bit of back and forth finally remembered that he was having something delivered. I then told him, I had no idea as no one has knocked or come to the door and we have been home all day.
While on the phone to hubby I thought maybe they might have left it on the front step so opened the front door. No parcel but there was a slip saying that they tried to give us the parcel but we were not home. Not home????? I have not left the house all day due to it being freezing and cold winds. OHHH why on hell have they not knocked on our door!!!!!!!!!!! Not happy, and this is not the first time that courier/delivery companies do this. I am home all day and I discover a slip and not knocking or telling me they are there to deliver the parcel. Why make someone go out of there way with kids or even without kids, it is an inconvenience.
I looked at the slip and only saw writing that said that after 1pm it would be at the post office. Hubby needed the parcel and we were getting ready to head out anyway (we were off to see how a mate was going) so off we all went to the post office. We were rugged up something fierce as it is freezing and the wind just goes straight through you and is icy to boot.
Just to give you an idea of how cold it is the current temperature is:
Current temp: 4.0°C
Recorded min: 7°C
Recorded max: 8°C
Feels like: -1.4°C
Wind: W 32km/h
Wind gusts: 46km/h
I checked the mailbox, then took the slip from the mailbox and my slip from the front step to the lady behind the counter. She gave me the one that was from the mailbox but not the one I was really after. She then pointed out that I did not see the magic word. It was only available from MONDAY after 1pm not today? Why would they not leave it at the local post office?
I then rang the courier company to then have a smart annoying person on the other end of the phone telling me that it was not their fault if we were not home. I explained that their delivery driver did not knock on the door, did not alert me that he/she was there and then did not leave the parcel with the post office. I told them I was most displeased by what they had done and made us leave the house to go to the post office in bad weather to try and retrieve a parcel that was not there. I then asked where they would have taken it, and I was told that they have sent it to Penrith in their depot there. Great, why over 40mins away and I then asked if we could collect it tomorrow, and the answer as you might have guessed was no. They are not open tomorrow.
I rang hubby as he was working close by and explained the situation and he was furious to say the least. He rang and they close up shop at 4.30pm and there was no way he could leave work at 3pm to collect this parcel. Was the delivery driver not liking the cold? Well I didn’t either when I ventured out to get the parcel we are now not allowed to collect!
Why is this behaviour and service acceptable? I don’t like it and told this company so. He mentioned that I could complain by email. I told him that I was complaining now over the phone. Why can’t you complain over the phone? Why is it that decent service is hard to find and harder when you are considered out of the Sydney Metro area!
Why take the parcel back down the mountain when they have to drive it back on Monday anyway? Why can’t they send it back today while we at home? What type of training does this company give their employees if this is what they do to recipients of their service? I will never use their service due to what they have done to us today.
As I mentioned before it has not just been this company but it has happened other times that I have been home all day to then discover a slip for a parcel that I then need to collect at the post office.
Has this happened to you? Am I the only one getting their knickers in a twist about this annoying service and behaviour? Send in your comments.

I won and I am so happy. I cannot believe it I entered a blogging competition and won, I have not been able to wipe the grin off my face. You might think that is very funny, but the kids are just as excited. They have not stopped jumping up and down yelling,”We are going to the beach!, We are going to the beach!”
So what did I win, well. I have won accommodation, airfares and a ticket to go to the Problogger 2013 conference at the Gold Coast. I am very thankful for all my readers that have helped make this possible and a BIG thank you to 1stAvailable.com.au as they are the company that ran the blogging competition.
Yipeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! I have always wanted to go to this blogging conference and have been unable due to money and childcare arrangements. Now I will be there and hubby can mind the kids.
One other major happy thing about this is that the girls will have their birthday on the Gold Coast! Yes I am taking them away for their birthday, well really 1stAvailable.com.au is, but I am claiming that I am doing it. What a great mummy am I.
Can you tell that I am just over the moon, I bet you can. I miss Queensland and just adore the beach, so being there for a short time will be wonderful.
My winning post is here: Your Doctor is just a click away. Why not book a doctor, massage or another health care provider all from your computer. Great service and very convenient.
Do your kids love technology, mine do and seem to know how to use it instantly. Maybe this is a sign of the times or just good tools that are easy to use. We are lucky to have a tablet and the girls seem to understand how to use it. iPads and the likes of the Google Nexus are so easy to use, even a toddler can do it.
My girls lately have insisted that they want to make videos for their songs, and have told me and daddy that they want to be video musicians. Basically they want to have video clips of their songs. You have heard it here first. My kids have decided they want to be stars. Not sure if this will happen but you never know. I wanted to be on the record in case they become huge and popular artists. I know they are clever what ever they do, they don’t have to be a musician or a pop artist, they will be fine what ever they decide. So don’t think I am putting pressure on them to be a rock star.
Mind you if they get rich and make it as rock stars then they can care for their parents, well why not? My iPhone has so many videos of the girls singing and pictures pulling funny faces. They both love taking pictures and being able to see what they have taken and the ability to turn the camera around to take pictures of themselves.

What is the strangest picture your kids have taken on your phone or computer tablet?
Yes it looks strange doesn’t it, I thought the same thing. I asked one man at the store and he told me that the purple one is due to beetroot. Not sure if it is dyed with it or just grown next to it. The other colours threw me as well. Have you gone to a shop and been amazed at the colours of vegetables or something else.

Do your kids love to go on adventures? Mine do, so with this in mind I took the twins on a train trip to the city to visit their Aunty Kay for lunch. I was not sure how this would go as it takes us two hours to just get to Central (for those that don’t know Central is the main train station in the city that you can change trains and that is where the train terminates), then after Central we had to get a train to the city.
It was a big day. Thank god for technology I had my iPhone and the Google Nexus, however the iPhone ran out of power quite quickly and caused a few arguments.

The girls loved the train but after a while it got a bit much. I got questions like, “Mummy is this our stop next?” and “Mummy when will we get there?” I did explain that it was a long way and I will tell them when we get off the train. The girls were very good and I was very proud of them. They did not misbehave at all and on the whole were very good. Both kids on the way there did not need to use the bathroom, so that was good planning or just good luck, not sure.

We made it to the city, and to Kay’s work o.k, kids were happy and super excited to see Aunty Kay and where she works. Pity we could not stay longer as Kay had to return to work and we had to get the train back home. Although it was not for long staying in the city, the adventure was with the kids having their first train trip to the city and sharing the adventure.
On the way back Lillian slept all the way up the mountain and Julia played the Nexus without having to fight her sister for a turn. It was a big day and we were very tired once we returned home.
The weather was fantastic also as it was the first time in weeks we have had blue sky and no rain! Heaps of washing to do and I am out and about. Thank god today as like yesterday it is blue skies again. I managed to get four loads of washing done so that is good.
