Play School Concert

The girls
The girls

A while back I organised tickets for the girls and I to go to the Play School Concert. Tickets were affordable so thought why not, they love Play School and it was an activity to do with them. I did not realise when I booked the tickets that it was going to be in the first week of the school holidays.

I was hoping that the girls would get up and dance and be more involved in the show as they are older, however this was not to be. Maybe it was due to the number of kids, or that they were tired from visiting their great aunts and cousins the day before. Who knows but as soon as they were in the car they were singing all the songs and did not stop until we reached home.  Do your kids dance and get involved at concerts, mine don’t, and I was hoping that they would today. Both girls had a blast, but did not make it known until we were in the car leaving, they were singing and playing with their new toys.

As you would have guessed during the show, the girls noticed other girls and boys with toys that their parents had purchased. I did not want to, but thought why not.
We have been conservative with things and are not doing or going anywhere, so a treat this once should not hurt. I was asked for Jemima ballerina soft toy each.

I did ask if they wanted a different type of Jemima toy, one had overalls, the other a blue dress and of course a pink ballet outfit. The girls seem to be very taken with pink and girly stuff. Although obsessed with pink, frills, and glitter they are still rough and tumble.

It makes me wonder why girls pick pink as the colour of choice. I was never that type of girl so I find it interesting, is it just down to sex that you should automatically like pink? Well I know some people who are female who hate the colour.

So as you might have guessed after the toys were purchased, kids were very happy. They have not stopped playing with their Jemima and have taken them to bed.

As I am pondering the pink colour issue, here are some articles that will help the debate or give you more information:

The second article above mentions that in the 1900’s pink was for boys and blue was for girls. Blue was considered daintier, and pink was a stronger colour that is closer to red. Interesting how times have changed. My girls have many other colours that are their favourite but lately it is pink, they fight over the pink plate and spoons. Just thought it was interesting that for the toy, they both had to have the girly pink one, it does look cute and is very lovely.

Have you gone to a show for your kids to then get them a toy? Did you plan on making this purchase? If you have girls, do they buy pink or prefer it than other colours? Send in your comments.

Ice Boats

Last week the girls and I were watching Play School, in the episode they did craft. I don’t know if you are like me, but when these crafty segments are in the kids programs I cringe and wait for the barrage of questions and pestering, “Can we do that mummy?”  So with this craft idea on play school I said yes. The girls were very excited and happy, so next morning we got started and it did not take long.

Ice Boats - Perfect fun for kids.
Ice Boats – Perfect fun for kids.

As you will see from the pictures the girls loved it and had a ball. So what is ice boats? Well, it is really simple.

  1. Get plastic containers, food dye, blu-tack, straws/sticks and you can create flags for your boats if you want to. We did not but that would be the next step.
  2. Once you have your container, add some tack to the bottom of it.
  3. Stick your stick/straw into the tack to make sure it is not going to move.
  4. Mix the water and colour of choice from the food dye in a mixing jug.
  5. Pour coloured water into plastic container.
  6. Put in freezer to set.
  7. You might want to have a bit of room so your sail does not snap off.
  8. When taking the ice boat out of the container, I had to put some hot water around the bottom so it would slide out easily.
Playing with the boats before they melt.

Now you have kids in bath, and they are getting clean while also having fun, plus you have done some craft time with them also. Bonus points all round.

Do you dread the crafty things on kids television programs? Does it put pressure on you to be really crafty too? I know the feeling, especially with two keen kids who want to get involved and messy to boot. I am hoping to find more crafty things that I can do with the girls while they are on school holidays, and it has started today. So project tire kids out has started in ernest.

Send in your tips and tricks and then maybe I might have some more crafty ideas to try out these holidays.

Tired and a lot to do

Julia and Lillian have had a great day so far, they seem tired but will never admitt it. If I say they are tired, they say, “NO I am not tired!!!!” So they are not tired.  We have all been off to see everyone at playgroup and as the girls start pre-school next week this will be the last Tuesday at playgroup for a while.

After playgroup we went off to the airfield to visit Enid and Rod. Enid said that she was off home tomorrow so wanted to say goodbye until we see her next time. The girls ran around and Onyx the cat came out from hiding to let the girls cuddle, kiss and to pat him.  Very brave of the cat.

Now we are home and watching the recorded play school that was on this morning. Oh the joy and happiness as it was discovered it was Jay and Abi on this show. Abi is Lillian’s favourite and Jay is Julia’s favourite. I make sure to keep the girls favourites as it seems that Abi is not on the new play school any more, just the re runs.

Did not tidy up the whole kitchen as I did yesterday before I left so need to tidy it up a little bit but not like yesterday, so should be o.k. The girls are drinking some milk and after the show will go to their room for a nap well I will hope for, but most likely some loud playing with giggles. Maybe some quiet time if I am lucky.

I will use that quick hour or so to clean and tidy a bit and to sort out what we will have for dinner, plus need to get organised to start the pants project for the girls. If you don’t know I have purchased some material to make some new pants for the girls. Isn’t it always the way it is hard to start a project but once you have started it is easier than you first thought.  Just need to start it.

However after all this activity I am very tired and think I need to rest as well. Maybe a sleep might be in order. I feel terrible having a nap as the things that needed to get done still does not get done and it just gets later to do them.

One thing that James and I need to find is our camera battery charger, for some strange reason it has disappeared. Very annoying as I want to charge the batteries so that I can take first day of school photos of the girls. Pictures on my camera phone don’t seem to do the image any justice. Maybe we just need to get a new charger, however doing that will make the lost one appear.  At least that is a solution, however I need to find it before the 13th of Feb. We have looked everywhere and still have no idea where it has gone.

It is overcast and very wet here again and seems like autumn might be on its way early. I hope not but as we have really not had a summer it may as well.
