Do you love to make Gingerbread? Would you like to have one of the yummiest recipes there is for gingerbread? Then read on to download the recipe and to see my versions that I created.
Make the best ever gingerbread with this fab and prized recipe from Deniz Karaca the executive chef at EPICURE

Making the Gingerbread
I had to test out the recipe to see how yummy and easy it was to follow. I must say that it was very easy and simple to do and rather tasty. I normally am not a fan of gingerbread but this mixture was very yummy. I had to test it before I even baked the biscuits.
I collected all my ingredients that I needed for the gingerbread. I like to have them all available on the kitchen bench. This way I don’t forget anything essential.
Step 1: Before I started I made sure that the oven was heating up. I put it on at 180°C.
Step 2: Get the baking trays ready for the finished gingerbread. The recipe says to use melted butter to grease baking trays. I did not do this, I used baking paper on the baking trays to ensure that the gingerbread did not stick to the tray. You can do either method. It does not matter.
Butter, Sugar, egg yolk and Treacle Syrup all ready to be a creamy mixture for the gingerbread.
Step 3: I put the butter and sugar and made it look pale and creamy.
Step 4: Now add the treacle syrup, egg yolk, until all combined. Once done add the flour, bicarbonate of soda and mixed spice (In the recipe it lists all the ingredients in the mixed spice mix. I initially thought that I had to get all of these to make my own. However I realised that if you just get a pack of Mixed Spice. I know this might be obvious to some but as I have never made gingerbread before I did not know). Mix into a dough and kneed until smooth. Wrap up in glad wrap and put in the fridge to rest for 30 mins.
Mixing in the flour and other ingredients.
Note: I ended up leaving my mixture in the fridge overnight due to being busy with kids and things. Before I used it I put it on the kitchen bench for a few hours to get to room temperature, this made it soft enough to roll out to make my gingerbread people. The mixture was fine and the biscuits taste amazing the only thing you need to be aware of is if you leave it in the fridge longer it will be a bit harder and need time to soften up.
The gingerbread dough wrapped in glad wrap and ready to go into the fridge to rest. Rest in fridge for 30 mins.
Step 5: The recipe recommends putting baking paper underneath the dough and on top to ensure it does not stick to your rolling pin. I did this and it made it much easier to get the dough flat and made it not stick at all which helped the whole process.
Rolling the gingerbread dough. It was a good idea to use baking paper to make it a non sticky issue with the rolling pin and counter top.
Step 6: Cut out your gingerbread with your cookie cutter of choice. I used a traditional shaped gingerbread man one but you can use whatever shape you wish to. It depends on the event and theme. You might want Christmas ones, or birthday party ones or just standard gingerbread men. It is up to you.
I used a gingerbread shaped cookie cutter to make my gingerbread people. If you want you can always have different shapes, stars, trucks, people, cats and more.
Step 7: Bake your gingerbread biscuits. It takes about 10 minutes in the oven. Make sure you place the gingerbread biscuits about 3 cm apart from each other. The dough spreads a bit and you don’t want to find that one gingerbread person is attached to another.
Gingerbread all cooked and cooling down. Once cool they will be decorated.
Step 8: Decorate your gingerbread. This is the fun part. You can go crazy with sprinkles, icing and lollies. Once done you can now eat them up.
My decorated gingerbread people. Two are girls and one is a boy. I know it is hard to tell and my decorating skills need a bit of work. Don’t they look pretty! Or festive to say the least.
Some of the items I used to decorate these fabulous gingerbread girls and boy were:candy eyes, hundreds and thousands, different coloured sprinkles, M&M’s, and Queen Writing Icings (I got a pack of 5 that have all different colours)
Enjoy your gingerbread and I hope you found this recipe as yummy as I did.
Why is it that the wife or female partner seems to organise everything for Christmas.
Some of the things that are left to me are:
Planning and buying Christmas Presents
Cleaning and tidying the house
Organising the kids
Wrapping the presents
Mailing the presents
Buying and cooking the food
Making the food
Let’s hope that my presents look this nice once wrapped up. I’m sure no one will care once they rip off the paper to get to the present.
My family only buy for the kids. The adults have everything they need or want, and I suppose if someone really needs something they either buy it themselves or might get it as a gift from others at a later stage.
Since my family is sorted and I just need to get kids presents then this leaves hubby’s family.
Hubby’s family buy for everyone which is nice, but if you are me and have limited time and really not sure what to get people it is hard indeed.
There are only so many times you can get someone a cup or another item that will get pushed to the back of the cupboard, and possibly never used.
I like to get people something different, interesting gifts that they would not get for themselves. I also love to buy things that people will use, want and need.
Buying people gifts that they will indeed need and use is hard when you are not sure what they have or really would like for Christmas.
I tried to employ a tactic this year to make hubby get responsible for his families present buying. He used the excuse that he is busy with work and therefore doesn’t have any time to do this shopping. He also used the other angle of not knowing what to purchase.
Geeez like I am a present seer and can know exactly what is in people’s brains. Maybe I am. Maybe I have an inner gift or special skill that I am unaware of.
One approach I used was to say that since hubby was near a big shopping centre he could go to Thursday late night shopping. Shop alone and without kids, think about what to get and then secretly bring it all back. This I thought would alleviate stress and make things easier on both of us.
He, of course, did not like this idea….. typical I thought.
I still don’t see why running around like a mad person to get things for everyone is all up to me!
Due to not getting the time to touch base of what I had already purchased and to think of what items we give to what family member it is hard to know what we still need to purchase.
Today I managed to get hubby to see all the things I have already got and we did a stocktake of items we still need to get.
Due to hubby not willing to do the shopping and the fact that Christmas is nearly here, I said the following:
“If you are not willing to go and get the shopping for your family, and now the kids are on holiday it makes it harder for me. I’m not taking the kids shopping with me to finalise the present shopping. I’ll go on Saturday and do it on my own. You mind the kids and I will have the day to get it done”
So I have spent a day by myself at the shops mostly trying to get the missing presents we needed.
I took a break from shopping to have some food and a much-needed coffee. Yummy!
Being out by myself today is a good outcome of having to do the present shopping. I get a well-deserved break. Quiet time and can finally enter shops without telling kids to not touch things and be always on alert.
It is a very hot day and I have finally found a place that is air-conditioned to have a cool drink and a snack before I get the final present and then food for the house.
I think next year I will go on strike and hubby can organise everything.
Being in a paid job is not the only criteria for being busy and not having time to get things done. I have three kids, until recently they were in school and due to the end of the year, there were functions to be at which meant I had to be at the school until about 11am. This then meant that I had less than an hour to get something done for me and then to be back at school for 2.55pm.
Now kids are on holiday I cannot get things done without taking them with me. The baby will still be going to care so that is a plus and I’m grateful for that.
I too have a job (I blog) and have deadlines and commitments. It is a hard juggle and like any working mum would tell you it is busy.
Have you had the chat to your boyfriend/husband or partner about why it seems like it is all up to you? Have you put your hands in the air and declared that you are on strike?
I think a strike is needed next year.
I am so tired and there still more to do:
Cleaning the house
Removing clutter
Wrapping presents
And possibly much more than I have forgotten about now.
Does this happen at your house?
You are the one that organises everything for everybody? I am exhausted and it is not Christmas yet.
Or do you share the Christmas organsiation at your place? Let us know how it works?
I am glad that I have had some time alone but could have lived without racing around getting last minute gifts.

The final stretch before the holidays is always a blur. With the clock ticking down, it’s hard not to daydream about the freedom that’s just around the corner. Read my full poem below, a different take on “Twas the Night Before Christmas”:
Twas The Night Before Holidays
Twas the night before the last day of work, and all through the place, Not a task was unfinished, not a deadline to chase. The emails were queued in the inbox with care, In hopes that tomorrow, none would be there.
The workers were nestled all snug at their desks, While visions of holidays freed them from stress. And I in my summer dress, and you in your tee, Knew the end was so near, it was hard not to flee.
When out on the street, there arose such a clatter, It was just the sound of a phone call that didn’t matter! I sprang from my seat to shut down my screen, And knew in a moment: it’s time for the dream!
The office was silent, the work almost done, Tomorrow’s the day that the holidays come. So here’s to the eve of our last work-filled night, Happy last day tomorrow—and to all, a good night! ✨🎉
Last Wednesday we were privileged to attend the premiere of Cirque du Soleil’s LUZIA. I remember when I was younger going to Cirque du Soleil shows with my mum and my sister, they were so magical and I wanted to share this with my children. One thing that is good about Cirque du Soleil is that it is a circus without animals.
About Cirque du Soleil?
In the early 1980s, a group of performers led by Gilles Ste-Croix showcased their talent on the streets of Baie-Saint-Paul, a picturesque village along the St. Laurent River near Quebec City. Initially known as Les Échassiers de Baie-Saint-Paul (The Stiltwalkers of Baie-Saint-Paul), this group became the foundation for what would later evolve into Cirque du Soleil. Learn more about the history of Cirque du Soleil on their website.
What is LUZIA About?
LUZIA is often described as a “waking dream of Mexico.” It takes audiences on a journey through vibrant landscapes. The show also features surreal settings and awe-inspiring acrobatics. The show includes everything from a cascading waterfall to jaw-dropping aerial acts. Each element is designed to transport you to a world where dreams meet reality.

Discover the Magic: About Cirque du Soleil’s LUZIA
The show opens with a man (who is the clown of the show) falling from the sky, hinting at a daring leap from a plane. The roar of an engine fills the air as a powerful wind sweeps across the stage, sucking up his backpack and belongings, sending them straight to the top of the tent. Amid the chaos, he humorously deploys a tiny umbrella, somehow managing to land safely on the stage—a moment that earns plenty of laughs from the audience.

As he regains his footing, he notices a massive key embedded in the stage. Curious, he looks around for its owner but finds no one. Turning the key unleashes a thunderous noise, setting off a chain reaction of movements and events that start the show.
Among his possessions is an empty metal water bottle, symbolising his desperate need for water. This quest becomes a recurring theme, cleverly interwoven into both the narrative and comedic skits throughout the show.
The show was broken into different acts and in between each act the man who is searching for water came along and did a skit or two to allow the other performers to set up for another performance.

During the performances you were not sure where to look, there was so much amazing things going on, dance, acrobatics and just stunning costumes to look at, not to mention the amazing sets!
The LUZIA performance was a captivating display of acrobatics and stunning visuals, with one scene in particular reminding my children of a moment from the Madagascar 3 film. The act combining hoop diving with two giant treadmills was striking, as the acrobats leaped through hoops with remarkable precision, much like the scene in Madagascar where the circus tiger interacts with small hoops. The performers, balancing on the moving treadmills, effortlessly jumped through hoops in a variety of daring ways—sometimes feet first, sometimes backwards, and even leapfrogging over each other. It was a mesmerizing combination of agility and speed, creating the illusion that they were defying gravity, just like the acrobats in the movie performing with such ease and fluidity.
The Cyr Wheel and Trapeze act was equally mesmerizing. The performers danced through large, majestic hoops while a trapeze artist executed daring flips and aerial moves. The acrobat balancing on one heel, suspended in mid-air, was a particularly striking moment, adding a dreamlike quality to the performance.

The Football Dance was another standout, with the performers skillfully manipulating soccer balls with their feet and heads. Their ability to bounce, roll, and spin the balls using only their bodies created a seamless and fluid performance, almost making the soccer balls appear as if they were floating in mid-air.
In the Aerial Straps act, the performer emerged from a cenote, interacting with a life-size jaguar puppet in a beautiful display of strength and grace. The performer rotated above the water, creating an ethereal moment that felt like they were gliding through space.
The Hand Balancing act was another remarkable highlight, where the artist balanced on flexible canes, gradually building the structure to an impressive height. The strength and control required to perform these feats was astounding, leaving the audience in awe as the artist maintained such challenging poses.

As for the Beach Clown scene, my youngest had the most amusing reaction when the clown finally found water in a pool, only for it to suddenly disappear. With wide eyes, they yelled, “How did that happen!” It was such a funny and unexpected moment, bringing a lighthearted touch to the show.
Hand Balancing looks so easy but this lifeguard was up 6 meters high. Photos: Matt Beard & Anne Colliard Costumes: Giovanna Buzzi Cirque du Soleil 2022
During one of the clown’s search for water, the water was actually flowing from behind him, and one kid from the audience yelled out, “It’s behind you!” The whole audience erupted in laughter at the perfect timing of the moment. The clown, ever so quick-witted, turned around and exaggerated his surprise with a playful expression, as if realizing it for the first time. He then comically gestured with his face and hands, giving the impression that he was pretending to be oblivious to the water behind him, as if asking, “Do you think I’m silly?” It was such a funny, spontaneous moment that had everyone in stitches, making it one of the highlights of the show! There was a hilarious moment with a poor man who kept trying to reach the water to fill up his bottle, but just as he got close, the water would stop flowing. As you might have guessed, the water would magically start flowing again… but only when he was nowhere near it! His attempts to outsmart the situation were absolutely priceless, as he would dash to a new spot, only for the water to follow him in the most unexpected way. His growing frustration and clever antics had the entire audience in stitches, making it one of the funniest parts of the show.
One of the most impressive moments in LUZIA was when an acrobat performed an aerial act where she was suspended solely by her hair. It was truly awe-inspiring to watch. I can’t even begin to imagine how strong and controlled you would have to be to pull off such a feat. The precision and power needed to balance in mid-air by just her hair were mind-blowing, and it left the entire audience in complete amazement. It was one of those moments that made you truly appreciate the incredible strength and discipline of the performers. Plus, how strong her hair must be to support her.
You Have to Go to Believe How Amazing It Is!
LUZIA is truly a must-see.
The show leaves you speechless, as you can’t help but stare in awe at the incredible talent of the performers. From the breathtaking acrobatics to the magical, otherworldly atmosphere, it’s an experience that transports you to a completely different realm. You find yourself sitting on the edge of your seat, watching these amazing people perform fantastical tricks, each one more mesmerizing than the last. It’s the kind of show that stays with you long after the final curtain call.

Alexander loves his Osmo Pizza Co game and iPad Stand
I got sent an Osmo Pizza Co with an iPad stand, I must say that I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I am blown away.
Osmois fabulous! It is so interactive and teaches kids when they are having fun playing.
Once I unwrapped the game and the iPad stand, I then set it up for Alex. The Pizza shop was open for business. It is so interesting that the game is not just played on the iPad, it is also played with the pizza board, the pizza ingredients and the money to make change for the customers orders.
The customers do get angry and annoyed at you if you get their order wrong….however it is fun to see their happy faces when you get it right.
Customers then pay you with an amount of money that is listed on the iPad and you have to give them change. To give change to the customer you need to turn the pizza board over and use the black/grey side. Add the money to this side and then the customer is super happy.
I had to help Alex with the money part as he is still a little young for this part of it, but it won’t be long until he is telling me how much money the customer needs.
My boy did have a lot of fun creating the pizzas and also making pizzas that the customer didn’t order. He loved the fact that the game saw what he was doing with the ingredients.
Alex loved the castle game that I downloaded for him
Games that allow kids to learn while having fun is ideal in my book.
We loved our Osmo Pizza Co and I am keen to get Alexander some more Osmo games.
This game is so perfect for a Christmas gift or a special treat during the holidays. You can purchase Osmo games and iPad stands at the following places: BigW, Kidstuff, JB Hi-Fi, Amazon.com.au, Apple Store, and OfficeWorks.
I am sure you will love an Osmo game as much as we do.

Salt Dough Ornaments are a perfect craft project to do with the kids.
They are fun and you can make whatever your heart desires. Your imagination can run wild.
My kids wanted to create different animals and I made them do handprints as well. You can do feet prints if you wish.
The kids will love to see their creations hanging from the tree, or on the doorknobs of cupboards and doors.
You can make these decorations for any celebration. Easter, Birthdays and more!
Make Salt Dough Ornaments today with the kids
Ingredients
4 cups of plain flour
1 cup of salt
1 and a half cups of water
Food dye (whatever colour you wish to create)
Paint if you wish to paint the ornaments rather than colour with food dye.
Glue
Glitter or Glitter Glue
Ribbon or string to thread through the ornament.
Chopstick or another item to make the hole to hang the decoration on the tree.
All my ingredients aside from the food dye to colour the dough.
Method
Mix all the ingredients together.
Add the food dye and mix some more to make sure that it is the right colour.
I separated the dough into three different batches. I made different colours for each child. This is a good way to ensure you know who’s decorations are whos.
Mixing the blue dough. All three coloured salt dough.
Roll out the dough so it is not too thick and not too thin. (I made some of ours too thick and it has taken a while to dry)
Cut out the shapes with the cookie cutters and then press handprints or footprints on the decorations.
Adding the hole so you can hang your ornament. Make sure to do this before you bake the ornaments.
Make sure to add a hole to put the string or ribbon into the decoration. Don’t forget to do this. Once dry it will be next to impossible to add the hole for the ribbon to tie onto the tree. We used the end of a chopstick.
Put the decorations on a tray with baking paper and then bake in the oven.
Bake in the oven for 1-2 hours at 100°C. or 200 °F. Time might vary depending on how thick the dough is for your decorations.
If the ornaments are still doughy you can put them back into the oven, or maybe leave them out to firm up before you decorate them.
Once the ornaments are dry you can decorate them.
The saltdough creature is ready to bake now. You can clearly see the hole that will allow you to put string/ribbon to allow you to hang up your decoration.
Add glue to the areas you wish to add glitter then sprinkle the glitter. Make your decoration sparkle! (I ended up buying glitter glue instead of just glitter. This saved me from adding the glue and then the glitter.)
Add ribbon or string to thread through the hole that you have added to the ornament to allow you to hang on the Christmas Tree or elsewhere.
Decorating the Salt Dough Ornaments with Glitter Glue. The finished Salt Dough Ornaments. Some were harder than others as they were not as thick as the others. The thicker ones need more time. If I was to do it again I would make them a bit thinner.
I hope this helps you create your own wonderful salt dough masterpieces.

It really doesn’t feel like it going to be Christmas Day tomorrow. I do feel extremely exhausted and hanging for the holidays, maybe this is due to all the stress and uncertainty that 2020 has brought.
The kids especially my four-year-old and very soon to be five years old is so excited for Christmas. He’s been singing made-up Christmas songs and doing fun dances around the house and also out in public. I am sorry to all the people that were at Woolworths the other day when my little boy went into Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer at the top of his lungs! Yes, that was us… and cmon it is the festive time of year so this loud vibrant Christmas cheer should be forgiven right….. Well, there were a few people that were giving me horrible looks and tut-tutting at this situation.
Moonpig is a wonderful place to find one of a kind cards and mugs, not only can you get fun gifts you can personalise them to make them even more unique.
Not only can Moonpig create stunning gifts and cards, but they can also mail them for you too!
My new mug from Moonpig…and yes I made it myself.
Moonpig has so many wonderful mugs to choose from and some you can even add your own photos to. I decided to add a fun saying, you will note that my mug says I am having a meeting. It is hard when you work alone most of the time, you have to have a chat with yourself or else nothing gets organised!
Christmas gifts from Moonpig that will make everyone smile
Some fun and new cards from Moonpig
It was super easy using Moonpig to organise and order my card and mug. Once my order was placed it was at my house in a few days time…so that was super quick if you ask me.
Make sure to get a fun card for your next birthday/anniversary/thank you present and while you are there order a one of a kind mug for your special someone.

It really doesn’t feel much like Christmas, emergencies, fires, evacuations and road closures. Not to mention the apocalyptic skies that are always with the red fire sun.
We escaped earlier for our holiday due to road closures (we were mainly concerned about road closures..if the road got blocked we couldn’t go on holiday and if there was a fire we couldn’t leave) and impending fire that might be on its way to us. I’m sure the house will be fine, if it isn’t there is not much we can do.
Our family is spending some much-needed downtime with family on the coast, going to the beach, relaxing and just being a tourist with the kids.
The kids are super excited to open presents from Santa tomorrow and I’m keen to just relax and take it easy.
However, relaxing is not that simple on a family holiday… it’s really just looking after kids in a different place.
I am thankful for all the volunteer firefighters that are helping us all stay safe, they have given up their free time, work and time with family to help others. These people might not get a Christmas Day and be out fighting more fires.
New South Wales is suffering from the worst fire in over 50 years, South Australia is suffering from horrible fires too, plus Queensland is under siege with fires as well. Basically it seems everywhere is on fire.
Our house is residential and not near bushland but others that were residential had ember strikes and were not so lucky. So hopefully we will be okay when we return…I truly think it will all be okay but we packed essential papers and photos just in case.
This is the time of year that I think of what we achieved, what I am grateful for and what I would like to do in the new year. Do you take a quick assessment like this too about the year that has been?
How are you spending your Christmas this year? If you have evacuated due to fires I do hope you are all safe and well.
Stay safe everyone and have a Merry Christmas.
Thanks so much for following the blog and being part of my community. I am working on some big changes for the blog in 2020 and I hope you all will love them.

Is it more than lots, and actually more like thousands or maybe millions?
Well, possibly not millions but fees like it could be? Or looks like millions of digital image files.

Do you have an airfryer? If you do, I’m sure you are like me and love yours as much as I do.
A while ago I was sent the Philips Airfryer XXL to test out and see what magic I could cook up. I’ve now had this amazing appliance for a few months and I wanted to share with you all the great recipes that I’ve been able to cook in the airfryer. I also recently received the Philips Baking Master Kit, an extra addition to trying out new things.
Philips Baking Master Kit for the Airfryer XXL
Cakes always come out perfect in the Philips Airfryer Cake Tin
I’ve made it even more easy and used packet mixes from the supermarket (You can make from scratch or use packet mixes)
Method
• Make the cake mixture • Grease the cake tin with a little butter or oil • Pour mixture into the tin • Set the airfryer to cake setting, 180 degrees for 28 mins • Leave to cook for the full 28 minutes and then wait till the airfryer beeps to tell you it is all done. • Once all cooked, take out of the airfryer carefully as it will be extremely hot (make sure to have an oven mitt to take out without burning yourself) • Leave for a bit and then take out of the tin to cool on a cooling rack. • Once cool, ice and decorate or serve warm with ice cream.
Orange and Poppy Seed Pound Cake cooked in the Philips Airfryer
Cupcakes
Method
Mix cake mixture
Fill 2/3 full in a silicone mould
120 degrees for 22 minutes on the cake setting (Cake setting defaults to 180 so just press the temp icon and change it to suit)
Cook for the required time limit
Once cooked take out and allow to cool
The cupcakes will come out easily of the silicone moulds and you will not need butter or oil in them (So this is even better)
Chocolate cupcakes straight out of the airfyer
Steak and Vegetables
Cooking steak and vegetables in the airfryer is so quick and easy. I’ve been amazed at how well it cooks steak and in fact any meat, it seems to keep the meat so moist.
I served the Steak and Vegetables with homemade Beetroot and Orange Spiced Chutney.
Ingredients
2 Scotch Steak Fillets
Olive Oil
3 Carrots
4 Potatoes
Chilli Flakes
Italian Herbs
Marinade
Soy Sauce and Honey – I added a tablespoon of honey and a good splash of soy.
Method
Cut up the carrots and potatoes roughly, small enough to cook quickly and be like bite-sized chip sizes.
Put carrots and potatoes in a bowl and add 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Mix so that all vegetables have the oil on them.
Add a tablespoon of chilli flakes and a tablespoon of Italian herbs. Mix well together.
Add the vegetables to the airfryer basket.
Put airfryer on the M (Mixed Setting)
Set the temperature for 200 degrees and cook for 20 minutes. Make sure to stop at the 10-minute mark to stir and to make sure that they are cooking okay. If you don’t like your veggies crispy you might want to take them out at the 10-minute mark.
Once the veggies have completed the second 10 minutes of cooking time, take them out and keep warm.
Now make up the marinade if you haven’t done so already. Once the honey and soy marinade is complete put in the steaks so that they can be fully coated with the marinade.
Put the steaks in the airfryer basket
Set the airfryer to the meat preset
Set the temperature to 180 degrees and cook for 12 minutes. No need to stop to turn over, just let the meat cook.
Sausages and chops
Before I cooked the Steak and Vegetables, I did lamb chops and sausages for the kids’ dinner.
It was very simple and very quick. I just had to clean up the tray and basket before I cooked the steak and veggies.
Alexander’s Dinner
Note: Before I cooked the sausages and chops, I sprayed the basket with a little bit of olive oil.
The following went into the airfryer:
2 chops
4 sausages
They were cooked at 200 degrees on the meat setting for 12 minutes.
So yummy it’s all eaten!
Roast Chicken and Salad
I saw the roast chicken recipe video on the Philips website and wanted to give it a go. I did mine with a twist, I purchased an already marinated and stuffed chicken from the supermarket.
However, my chicken was a little bigger than it should have been so I was lucky that it fit okay into the airfryer. My chicken was 1.7kg and I was hoping to get a chicken that was 1.5kg at the biggest or maybe 1.2kg but the smallest was 1.7kg at the shops. It didn’t look that big, so I gave it a go.
Philips Airfryer Roast Chicken with Salad
Ingredients
1 whole chicken either marinated and stuffed by others or you can create your own.
Salad – I picked up a salad kit at the supermarket to make dinner even easier.
You can add vegetables, rice or other things to the chicken if you don’t want a salad.
Method
Spray the airfryer tray with some olive oil
Add the chicken to the airfryer tray
Set the airfryer to 180 degrees and choose the poultry setting
Entertaining is so easy with the Philips Airfryer XXL.You will create some super yummy and tasty meals and impress your family and friends.
Another benefit is that the airfryer uses less oil and is a healthier way to cook, with up to 90% less fat. Plus, it is a super quick way to create some family favourites.
Find more recipes with the Philips Airfryer App, available at the App Store and on Google Play

Being active is so important, walking, playing sport and just moving is ideal.
It is said that you should do 10,000 steps each day. I am not sure I get close to that at all times, sometimes close and other times I just try and move and do some exercise every day.
My kids wanted to get a Vívofit Jr. due to other kids at school having them.
It tracks how many steps and minutes of activity you do.
If you do 60 minutes of activity or more you get a certain number of moves in an online game.
You can track chores and assign pocket money or if you don’t wish to pay money you can take kids to an event, movie or special outing.
The kids wanted one so that they could compete with their friends at school.
It’s also to waterproof so kids can wear while swimming or in the shower.
We decided that it the Vivofit was a good idea, and purchased one each for the girls just before they were nine. The girls love their activity watches and find it fun to hit goals.
What the girls have loved about the new vívofit® jr. 2
The new Star Wars themed game and characters on the activity watch.
It has colour now on the screen. The original vívofit jr. the screen is just black and white.
With the new colour screen when you hit a goal you get fabulous fireworks to celebrate.
You can get adjustable bands for your new activity watch so that your child can grow with it.
“The app experience corresponds with the style of band you choose. That means the fun never has to end. Purchase additional vívofit jr. 2 bandsto let your kiddo enter a whole new world of app adventures.”
Having cool characters from Star Wars is a plus, my kids are mad Star Wars fans.
The Garmin Vívofit jr. 2 is so easy to setup and start using.
All you need to do is to download the app from the app store, available for iPhones and on Google Play.
Pair the device and then set it up with name and details for the child that is going to wear it.
You can choose an avatar, pick a name (or nickname) and once done all good to go.
If you already had the original Vivofit Jr. all you have to do is to pair the device and set it up and then it will show up on the app.
The girls called their new trial Jeff, or otherwise known as BB-8 Vívofit jr. 2.
You can set up chores and also reminders for kids that need that extra boost to do a chore.
I just synced the girl’s info from their Garmin Vívofit jr’s to get all the updated info. As you can see Jeff hit 2 goals today.
From the above image, you will see that the number in blue on the far right-hand side is the number of moves each child has in their online game.
Moves in the game are dependent on how much activity you have done.
The BB-8 Star Wars game on the Garmin Vívofit jr. 2
After monitoring the kid’s activity for a while I can clearly see that they go above and beyond 10,000 steps per day.
The kid who was wearing Jeff or otherwise known as the Star Wars BB-8 Garmin vívofit jr. 2 did 13,080 steps on Monday the 2nd of July! Yep, that’s a lot of steps. No wonder the kids are tired after school.
The activity watches also monitor sleep patterns, after a while you can easily see if your kids are getting deep sleep or constantly waking.
The kids are sad that we have to send this tester back to Garmin.
I know you can picture it but I can hear it, the tears and the constant pestering to get the new versions. Maybe we need to get the new Garmin Vívofit jr. 2 for their 10th birthday (I still cannot believe my babies will be 10 soon)
I must say that the version 2 of Garmin’s Vivofit Jr is better than the original, although the kids still love both. I think the introduction of colour and the ability to have bands change the game you play is a fab idea.
If you haven’t it would make an awesome present and help kids be more active.
Kids have iPads, computers and the television to watch and it is all more screens. Having something that helps kids get outdoors and away from screens is fabulous.
Ohhhh and having chores and incentives attached is a plus for any parent.
You can set up chores and also reminders for kids that need that extra boost to do a chore.
We loved testing the new Garmin Vívofit jr. 2. the kids had so much fun with the new BB-8 Star Wars Activity Tracker.
Note: You can get replacement bands and have access to all new games on the Vivofit jr. 2. The girls were so taken with the new version of the Garmin vivofit jr 2’s that I got them a Marvel Avengers one for their birthday this year.
Get a replacement adjustable band that allows you to play new games and have a whole new look. The twins now have the Marvel Avengers Garmin Vivofit jr 2.

We are having some fun with family and spending time doing absolutely nothing for a bit.
The twins are super excited about Santa and of course Christmas as a whole. Are your kids wondering what they might get on Christmas Day? Mine are and trying to find out.
Enjoy the holidays and I hope that 2018 is a fabulous year for everyone.

I cannot believe it is Christmas Eve and for that matter will be Christmas tomorrow!
2016 has gone super quick for me. I suppose looking after a new baby and two older kids makes things speed up. I’ve been racing around taking kids to school, picking them up, taking them to after school activities and more!
One other thing that I cannot believe is that my little boy, Alexander is nearly one. Yes he will be having his first birthday soon. He was born on the 7th of January so just a few weeks after Christmas he will have his first birthday party.
Merry Christmas, and I cannot believe that 2016 is nearly over.
Lately I have been thinking about all the wonderful things that have happened in 2016:
Our little boy was born.
We were lucky to survive life with a newborn and no sleep all while looking after our twin girls. Well mostly me and getting everyone to school with me having little to no sleep was indeed a miracle.
The girls did well in school this year and both had important jobs. One was in the SRC (Student Representative Council) and the other was in charge of taking the roll to the office everyday.
Alexander hit all his milestones some earlier than expected and has been wanting to walk ever since he was born. The last few months he has been lounge surfing. He is standing and taking a few steps but that is it at the moment. It won’t be long
Alexander is climbing chairs and anything he can find to climb.
The girls love their baby brother and although we have had a few accidents we were incredibly lucky that everyone was okay. The baby fell and smashed his face on the concrete path and therefore his front teeth all got smashed in and then all his teeth were wobbly. One other incident was when he was only a couple months old he was dropped into the sandpit head first.
It is nice to watch the kids all together when everyone is getting along. Cuddles, kisses and of course giggles.
I have faced very naughty kids lately but they have tried hard and are generally good kids. So I did purchase Christmas presents and now we have many things under the tree. So my annoyance at cancelling Christmas was not something that has happened.
I am now wondering what wonderful things will be in store for us in 2017. Next year is the year of the Rooster and according to reports it looks like a great year for me.
Are you in disbelief about the fact it is Christmas already? Did 2016 fly by fast for you as well?
What do you hope to do in 2017?
I have big plans for the blog and life. Alexander is due to start childcare soon, and this will allow me to get more done. He will only be going a few days per week, I hope he likes it.
Below are some wonderful events to celebrate Christmas and the festive season. This is just a few events and is by no means a full breakdown of things to do.
The kids will love them and I’m sure adults will as well. Take the whole family and enjoy.

This event looks amazing and we wanted to go last year, however I was very pregnant with our little boy at the time. As we had no idea he would be born on his due date of 7th of Jan we did not want to be too far from the hospital. This year I’m keen to take the kids to the Christmas Lights Spectacular and I cannot wait to see their faces light up as much as the lights are already.
What great event have you been to in the lead up to Christmas? Let us know.
I hope you have a lovely time if you do go to these great events and if you have some other fab place to tell us about I cannot wait to hear about that too. Have fun!
I think I might have end of yearitis. It could be exhaustion, or maybe it could be called being very over term 4. I don’t know if I have the itis, but I do know that I don’t want to have to go to school drop offs and pick ups anymore, I am over all the after school activities and my brain is now telling me it is summer holidays.
Although my brain is thinking it is summer holidays it is not officially holidays at all. I even thought yesterday was Friday for part of the day, I was hoping that today was the weekend but it was indeed Tuesday and the kids needed to still be taken to school.
You can imagine my annoyance at the fact that Monday was not Friday and Tuesday was not the weekend. No sleeping in and no holidays just yet.
On holidays well wishing I was on holidays and relaxing in my backyard.
I really want to just stay at home and potter around and do whatever I want, well with kids as well so maybe the doing whatever I want will never happen. Regardless of doing things that I have been wanting to get to for ages, at least I will not have to pack school lunches, drop kids and pick them up from school and of course taxi everyone to their after school activities. I could just stay at home. I might even still be in my pj’s and not bother to change all day? Maybe that is something that can happen.
I love not having to be anywhere urgently or needing to be somewhere at all. I like the days where you can just have a relaxing fun day at home and everyone has a relaxing enjoyable time. Although some of these moments are short-lived due to the girls claiming they are bored and then suddenly wanting me to take them out which will require a huge drive in the car.
Tomorrow night hubby, the baby and I are off to the local high school to see the girls dance in the junior dance group. I have heard that it is a mixture of many different dances and one kid even told me that there is the chicken dance in there as well. It will be nice to see the girls dance as they have been very busy practicing each week.
End of year dances are a huge clue that the school is getting ready to wind up activities for the year. I am thankful for this as I would love to just be left alone for a bit and not have to take kids or people anywhere for a while. I do think that this is not going to be the case as my kids like to go places even if it is to someones house for a playdate.
I don’t think it is just me that is feeling like this. The twins have been overtired, yelling and carrying on more than usual. I am putting it down to they are over school, very tired and really need the holidays to start.
Are you wanting the holidays to start? Do you think you have end of yearitis too? Do you think they feel like they have started already?
Having warmer weather always makes me want to be on holiday. Have you noticed that your kids are over it all too?
