Interview with Cosplayer Nevada Newman

Oz Comic-Con is happening next month and what better way to get in the spirit than with an interview with Nevada Newman.

Nevada Newman is a nine-year-old who is a Cosplayer.

What is Cosplay?

“Cosplay is the practice of dressing up as a character from a film, book, or video game, especially one from the Japanese genres of manga or anime.” From the Google Dictionary.

Nevada agreed to be interviewed and to share some fabulous images of herself, and her brother.

The costumes are fabulous and awesome, you can keep up to date with their Cosplay adventures on Instagram.

Q1. When did you first get interested in Cosplay?

A. I got interested in cosplay in 2016 when I attended my first con with my mum and saw all of the fantastic cosplayers there.

Q2. I see via your Instagram @nevada_newman_official that you started with Cosplay in 2016, have you been having fun with it?

A. I did start my cosplay adventures in 2016 (before that my insta was full of my dancing) I have so much fun with getting to play different characters.

Q3. What is your favourite outfit? They all look so stunning.

A. Thank you. My favourite outfit has been Hela from Thor Ragnarok.

Q4. Do any of your friends participate in Cosplay?

A. No, none of my friends at school or dance even knew what cosplay was before I started doing it.

Q5. What is the biggest event for Cosplay enthusiasts that you are really looking forward to?

A.  Oz comic con for me is my favourite as they really love child cosplayers and even have a day that they get to show off their costumes.

Q6. Oz Comic-Con is happening in September, what costume will you be wearing when you attend?

A. Gosh, I don’t know. We are going for the weekend so it will be 2 different ones. Hela maybe possibly Raven from Teen Titans Go, I have so many to choose from now since I got sponsored from www.herostime.com

Q7. I loved seeing the pictures of you and your brother as The Incredibles, it was so nice. Does your brother like dressing up too?

A. Oh yes, he sure does. Those costumes are so much fun to wear. He loves being Dash. Although Captain America and Thor are 2 of his favourites.

Q8. Does any other family member dress up in Cosplay?

A. No lol, other than my baby brother it is definitely my thing.

Q9. I’ve seen some wonderful images of your costumes on Instagram, what is your favourite?

A. My favourite image that I have done is Gamora with my baby brother as Thor in the middle of Surfers Paradise. I was so much fun seeing how people reacted to us all dressed up.

Q10. How do you think you have changed since you have started dressing up in CosPlay? Do you think you have grown with confidence and met more people?

A. I have definitely grown through cosplay and met some amazing people. WhenI’m in costume I feel more confident speaking to people as I am playing a character. I get to explore being different people all the time and I don’t want that to ever stop.

Follow Nevada Newman on Instagram to keep up with all her cool costumes and events she attends.

A BIG thank you to Nevada for the interview and images for this post.

I hope you have an awesome time at Oz Comic-Con

Off To The Opera

UPDATE: The Opera was put on hold. Once cast member broke their leg and the replacement is having a baby. So it has been rescheduled for next term. Glad we won’t miss it but was looking forward to it.

This is my post to make you all jealous. Yes you read that right. I fear that this will make you all green with envy. Just what about you ask and wonder?

Next Friday I am off to see Opera Australia perform “The Barber of Seville” at the twins school. Yes the opera! The Australian Opera is coming to perform. Not only are they going to showcase a wonderful story to the kids and open them up to costumes, the stage and great performances but they are allowing parents to tag along free! Yes FREE!

Well as long as I can find a seat that is. Would sitting on the floor be o.k if I was not in the way? How early is too early to wait to make sure I get seat? Should I turn up 30mins before the performance? Not sure what to do here….there might be heaps of interest and maybe none.

I have paid for the kids to go and now I am super excited for my day at the opera. Should I dress up? Or just wear jeans and a t-shirt? I was thinking of the big hat and annoying people behind me with my swanky outfit, but that will not be happening. I have no swanky big hat and don’t think I can muster up a fancy outfit even in a weeks notice. Maybe smart casual and some makeup is what is going to actually happen.

My nana (the girls GG) loves going to the Opera House due to loving Opera, but that is not the only reason. One major reason is that they have all sorts of people come to their performances of Opera, comedy, symphony and more.  Dress is not a major thing that is noted. Nana loves it that she can be with people in thongs, jeans and a t-shirt who are passionate about the arts, you also get people who are in designer frocks and all the accessories that go with it.

It is great that the Australian Opera is giving the kids a chance to experience opera and these types of performances. I grew up going to the theatre and saw many operas so I know it is going to make an impression. Making art available for all kids to experience is a good thing and many kids don’t get the opportunity to go to the opera or even a live performance of a play.

I bet you are now very jealous of me going to the opera next Friday while you might be at work or at lunch. I will think of you while having a nice pleasant midday matinee performance of “The Barber of Seville”. Wish me luck in getting a seat for the show next Friday, and then I will be able to enjoy it in style rather than trying to get room on the floor.

What have you been jealous of lately? Has someone won something? Did a certain someone get tickets or go somewhere you have always wanted to go? Let us know.

Annoyed!

Note: One good thing is my order did not get cancelled and will be shipped today! I will receive a new dongle for my fitbit soon. So that is great news.

My first annoying thing of the day!

When I packed up to leave due to impending fires, I packed my fitbit and of course the dongle that went with it. For days I have not been able to find the dongle, I had the fitbit zip but not the bit to sync to the computer. Annoying and driving me mad trying to find it. Since I looked at all places that knew it might be and not finding it, I bit the bullet and did an order via the FitBit website to order a new one.

I then got busy getting ready to leave the house and came back to my desk to get my phone and of course what do I find, Yes the dongle sitting on my desk near my keyboard! Typical that this has happened. Once I got home from dropping kids off and seeing if I can get some things for their school which is the other story I will tell I tried to set it all up again.

Do you think it is working? NO! The computer sees that the Bluetooth dongle is connected but the software for the FitBit is not talking to it or seeing that the dongle is plugged in! I have restarted the computer. No luck! I have removed FitBit Software and reinstalled, still no luck! Getting very annoyed now.

I tried to cancel my order this morning due to finding original dongle but now it is not working I might need the order to turn up. My emails are bouncing back and will try to let them know via their website. I had to remove the app on my iPhone as it was not syncing and downloaded the new one. The new app for my iPhone is trying to update and never does it. Also it is taking forever to sync. Not sure why but will ask them this as well.

2nd annoying thing of the day!

My kids are dressing up as insects for the Rhododendron festival. Every year the pre-school marches in it. One kid is going to be a lady beetle and the other a butterfly. Do you think I can find a costume for this, NO! We have no K-Mart, Target has fairy costumes that the kids don’t want, the toy shop has nothing, Go Lo the cheap shop that had dress ups is closed, I have gone to the second hand shops and they have nothing! And of course the costume shop is closed!

My option is to borrow one, the kids wear fairy costumes, make something at short notice and no time, or drive to Penrith to get one. Not sure if I have the time to do the drive to Penrith as that takes a day with kids.  There is no where here that I can purchase a cheap costume for kids. One shop was selling a fairy costume for $62 each! Not good for a little parade and for 2 kids. Just too expensive.

I know I should have organised something earlier but I was busy and did not look at a sign at the school. My mistake. Now I need to get it sorted before Saturday!

3rd annoying thing of the day!

Need to clean the house in record time as today is the only day without kids. Well tomorrow is sort of but have about 1 hour of time tomorrow for me. So I’m going offline to power through the house like a woman possessed!

Let me know what has annoyed you lately! Send in your comments.
