Today is the 29th of February 2020 and this means it is a Leap Day.
The 29th of February doesn’t happen all the time and on the years that it happens, it is called a Leap Year. The last leap year was in 2016 (I had no idea that my little boy was born in a leap year and it must have been down to being exhausted with a newborn and twins)
Also with the introduction of another day, the year is 366 days rather than 365 days this year.
All years that are not leap years are referred to as Common Years.
Did you know?
- Julias Caesar started the first leap day with his Julian Calendar
- Every leap day a woman can propose to her boyfriend.
“In many European countries, especially in the upper classes of society, tradition dictates that any man who refuses a woman’s proposal on February 29 has to buy her 12 pairs of gloves. The intention is that the woman can wear the gloves to hide the embarrassment of not having an engagement ring. During the middle ages, there were laws governing this tradition” - People who are born on a leap day are called, “Leapers”, “leapling”, “leap-year baby”
So if you want to ask your boyfriend to marry you, today is your day!
Do it now! IF HE SAYS NO HE OWES YOU 12 PAIRS OF GLOVES
Happy Birthday to all the Leapers or otherwise known as Leap Year Babies, it is nice to finally celebrate on the actual day rather than the 28th or the 1st of March.
Enjoy this special day and I hope you have fun leaping!
