Upgrading Your Car with NRMA

by

When I was pregnant with the twins many couples in our baby class got new cars to accommodate the pram, and other things needed for a baby.  Or in our case babies.

Hubby and I managed to find a pram that fit quite nicely in the boot of our already existing Holden Astra.

Having twins for our first children we knew things were going to be expensive.

Two of nearly everything was needed, and if we could do without we did.  Until we realised we had to have two of something.

I still have this Holden Astra, and have managed to fit three kids in the back seat. However, this only leaves us room for the driver and a passenger in the front.

Being a family of four was a bit difficult when we needed to take someone else in the car, but now we are a family of five it is not possible at all!

Three kids now mean a bigger car is needed.

If we need to have an extra person or larger items we need to take a second car.

Taking a second car is not always practical or ideal, so I have been looking at ways to upgrade the family car to allow a family of five to travel. Plus, to have extra room to let us take more things with us and maybe the space to have extra people come along too!

I’ve taken to drooling over bigger cars. You might catch me looking at cars in car yards, the advertisements online and in the local paper.

I have been looking at end of financial year sales and end of year clearances as well. Yep, you guessed it I’m trying to find a bargain. (What family isn’t??)

So what car do I get that will accommodate a growing family?

I would like a 7-seater SUV.

This is for a few reasons.

Firstly, the 7 seats will comfortably fit our 5-person family and allow for 2 extra people to join us if needed.

Secondly, the SUV will be able to go off road and deal with the conditions we face in the Blue Mountains; icy roads, heavy rain, dirt roads and much more.

Thirdly, due to the nature of kids and activities the SUV will need to accommodate a lot of things. Bikes, tents, bags, and many other things that cannot fit in my current car.

NRMA voted the Land Rover Discovery Sport TD4 150 SE the winner of the All Wheel Drive SUV’s in 2016. Not only has Land Rover been named a winner last year it is in the list of new SUV’s this year, and is a reliable car for families.

Did you know that the Kia Sorento and Mazda CX9 are also great choices for families as well.  This gives me extra cars to look at for our next purchase.  If you need extra space the Kia Carnival SLi Family Wagon might be an option.

And I have checked, the Kia Sorento does come in a 7-seater, so now this is on the list to test out too!

I’m going to book myself into some test drives to see what car suits me best. They all look amazing online.

I could spend ages changing the colours and picking out each intricate detail for my new car.

It is interesting how having another baby means that you need bigger everything! We are in the process of building a new house too.

See what happens when you become a family of five!  You build stuff and get new things. This is obviously the good part of being a mum to three kids. I will finally get a bigger car and a house that has space for my projects soon.

Let us know what car you are drooling over.
