Kung Hei Fat Choy – Water Dragon should be better than rabbit

It is Chinese New Year Eve, I have cleaned and tidied and there is a lot more to do but I am tired and over it. I have done some major things and added some special items in certain areas of the house to help with feng shui. I was using the flying stars for 2012.

It would be mighty nice and great if this water dragon will give us better luck than the rabbit did for 2011. I suppose we will have to wait and see.

Today James was tidying up as well. He finished his work in the yard and the girls helped. Lillian was later playing with his measuring tape (the metal ones), she is o.k, I was just worried and asked her what she was doing. She said that she was measuring. I asked what she was measuring. She then told me it was the rock. She came in as asked and I then asked her how long it was? What was the measurement? She then thought long and hard about it. She then told me it was “many”. I think that is just very cute.

Lillian copied her name on the keyboard twice and was so clever at some other computer tasks. Julia is managing to understand how to use the mouse and to move it and to click on things she wants. The girls are taken with a game on the seseme street website that they can colour with just the computer.

Bubbles closed

Yesderday was the day the girls go to their swimming lessons. As I had to be somewhere straight afterwards, I thought I would take the girls to the pool early and to have them spend time in the kids pool with the bubbles. This idea was not a good one as when we arrived, I found out that the spa and the kids pool was closed for maintence. The girls were very upset. Lillian who is very expressive, put her arms in the air and to mimick what you might think was old italian women having a chat about something annoying. She was displeased. Bubbles closed she said with a sad angry face. She threw her arms up, and lifted her head and did the impression of a much older wise woman. I found it hard to remain serious about the situation.

All throughout the day, even at Coles the girls kept telling people that the bubbles were closed. They told a lady I do aqua aearbics with that the bubbles were closed, they told my chirporator that the bubbles were closed, told daddy who did not know what it meant until I told him  – then it all made sense.

Today the girls were at child care, and told Olivia a lovely lady that takes care of them and other people that the bubbles were closed.

Today we have been in our house and in Katoomba for 9 years. It does not feel that long and there has been so many changes to us and our lives.

Woolies at Leura

Woolworthes at Leura opened on the 14th of April.  I decided to go and visit to see what the new shopping experience was like. I can honestly say, that I was amazed at the selection, the displays and just the whole experience. Not sure what it was or if it is just new, but I really enjoyed it. That is quite a thing coming from me as lately it is a chore to go shopping with the girls as they are more curious of things and seem to be grabbing extra things to add to my already stuffed trolley.

My mum and step dad are currently minding a house in Katoomba so thought I should ask if they would like to come along as well. They were getting ready to go there as well, so I did not feel so bad that my day consisted of visiting a place to buy food and other supplies with children.

I explained this to Kay, my sister. She could not stop laughing that this was my day out. I explained that this is big for our area, and it gives us so much more choice now. But it is rather sad that I had such a fun time going food shopping. Oh well…. let’s pray this does not last.

Coloured toes please mummy

Julia wanted nail polish on her toes. This is the first time she had them painted.
Julia's purple toes - Very pretty indeed.

Julia really wanted to have her toe nails painted with nail polish. I decided that she was old enough and it does come off, so where is the harm in it. The only thing that I thought might cause and issue is waiting for it to dry. This seemed to not be a problem. She fully accepted that she had to wait. We made a game of it. Julia wriggled her legs in the air to dry them and sat contently with me until they were dry.

Lillian wanted hers done as well. I then attempted to put nail polish on her toes when she said “I want pink”. The colour that I was using was purple and not pink. This seemed odd as Lillian keeps telling me and others that her favourite colour is purple.  I knew I had heaps of nail polish but when I searched for it, could not find it at all. Tomorrow when I am at the shops will go and get some pink nail polish.

The girls have been quite fascinated by my painted nails on my hands and also my toes. My colour of choice is normally a hot red colour. With fair skin it looks quite nice. Also it makes me feel glamourous, even for a short while.

Today we have had adventures in the backyard with some interesting gardening techniques from the girls. Removing dirt and putting it elsewhere is considered gardening. All useful tips I hear you say. Also tonight when they were not going to bed, Daddy went into their room to see why this was so. It was revealed that they could not go to sleep as there is a dragon in their room. All three of them must be asleep, Julia, Lillian and the dragon as there is no noise now.

Well they are all off to day care tomorrow, not sure what the dragon is doing tomorrow. Maybe he/she only turns up for bed time. I will make sure to get the pink nail polish to paint Lilly’s toes and then I will have happy little girls with panted toes.

Eating

The girls are not eating again. Well they do eat something, but not a lot and not as much as they once used to. It is worrying. They are very small and already underweight for their age.

However they are twins, born 6 weeks early, and were always going to be small.

I was hoping it might be a phase, the weather, or that they are not interested in the food. I have changed the food, given different types of food, treats, and other things. Nothing seems to work. As they are nearly 2 and half my husband wants to stop giving them milk.  However I feel that if they are not eating what else can I do. I have been giving them PolyJule in the milk and food to help. Also been adding liquid vitamins to their milk to help boost things.

We were seeing the nutrietiist at Katoomba Hosptial. I think we need to go back to get some things sorted out. The girls need to eat more. I give enough food, they just don’t eat it.

I have taken to looking at one of many of my cooking books for toddlers and babies for ideas. All of the things that I have done, well most of them have been met with shaking the head, and closing the mouth and the arm pushing it away from them.

Oh well. Will make an appointment with the specialist at the hosptial and to see what they suggest.   Does anyone else have this issue? I am doing all the right things and the girls are putting on weight, loosing weight, putting on weight, and loosing it. Very annoying and concerning.

Any thoughts on how to interest them in eating more would be appreciated.

Bunnies are lucky

Kung Hei Fat Choy! Welcome the Year of the Rabbit. Hoping that this year will be good for us compared to the year of the tiger.

Having fun under the sprinkler

Today was a good day. James was home as we had an appointment with a new accountant, our previous one has let us down in a big way. We went to Wentworth Falls Canton Palace for lunch for Chinese New Year. The place was empty for lunch. We thought that we might not get in as it was new year, but there was us and 2 other tables there. So no issue on getting in at all.

Food was great, nice time at lunch. Girls were at childcare.

After childcare, James and I went home. Lately I have been hosing the girls down as it is so hot here lately. I am sure you have read my other posts about the heatwave. Well since James was home, he organised the sprinkler for the girls to run through. They had a blast. It was their first time with a sprinkler and the joy on their faces was just wonderful.

Happy new year all, and I hope that the year of the rabbit is good for all.

Hot, bothered and tired

Normally when I am hot, bothered and tired I go to bed or just relax with some cool liquids. However now I have children it is much hard to just relax if it is a hot day.  This is an article from the Sydney Morning Herald about how hot it has been; http://www.smh.com.au/environment/weather/third-day-of-heat-is-the-one-to-beware-of-20110201-1acgt.html

The girls are out of sorts to begin with, you also cannot be stuffed doing anything but have to. So the major things are left undone. For example, have managed to do all the laundry bar one load for today but have yet to fold and put it all away. Have folded some of it but then got distracted.

Have managed to clean up the living room multiple times to have it successfully destroyed by 2 little people. As it has been in the 40 degree temperatures this week, wanted to keep my fair skin girls indoors and myself. So having a messy room with toys was the perils of staying indoors.

Now after the second day in a row that I have taken them outside for them to run through the hose and to cool off, they are over tired, hitting each other, pushing each other and just plan annoying. They did not sleep when I put them down for their morning sleep. I gave them iced water in a non spill sippy cup so that they can cool down, plus cold and wet flannels. This was chucked out of the bed. After Julia pushed Lillian too many times even after I told her nicely not to, then yelled at her to stop, she did not and pushed her. So they are both in their cots with a cold container of cows milk. I know I should not do that but as it is hot and they were screaming I am hungry. They did have a choice of nice cool fish fingers, carrots, bread and iced water.

They also were offered and had some strawberry yoghurt. So don’t think that my girls are starving. They are just deciding on what to eat and not to eat. Sometimes I serve up a big plate of things for them to pick at and nothing. I then give them a choice a few things and the same. Today for the second day in a row, they did not eat their breakfast. I am putting it down to the heat. Happy to give them more food, just is doing my head in with not eating anything. Oh well, I suppose that is the perils of having toddlers, and 2 of them to boot. Sometimes when one is happily eating, the other will say, “I don’t like it”, and then the other will agree and not eat any more. If only they would just continue eating.

It is supposed to rain and have thunderstorms with a chance for heavy rain. That has not happened. Crossing fingers it might happen tonight to give us all a cool night and a good chance to sleep.

Well enough of the whinging about being hot and bothered. I am off to do something about it. Going to get a cool drink, relax and watch a tv show of my choice. Not childrens viewing.

What do you do when it gets so hot that you feel like you are melting? How does that affect your children? I know most of you probably have air conditioning but we don’t. So tips for those without would be nice.

Keep cool where ever you are.

Colours

I have been trying to teach the girls the colours. Every chance I get, I let them know what colour something is. However, once they hear blue or purple, then every colour after that is either blue or purple. Oh well they are still learning.

However today, Lillian said Blue and Yellow Balloons on a bag that the girls are using as a handbag. These bags are just the bags you use to wrap presents or gifts. The girls put it on their arms and walk around like they have a handbag and are off shopping. They normally go and put all number of toys and drink bottles in their bags. At the end of playtime it is an interesting find on what is in their bags.

Julia and Lillian seem to be good with the colour Yellow but it is said in their own way. Lello is more like what it sounds like.

Grandma Cheryl bought them a colour book, and hoping that reading more of that and intergrating more of what colours things are will have the girls understanding what colours are and what colour is what.

Childcare and baths

The girls were dropped off at childcare early and I managed to get off and do what I needed to do. So that was great. I had to finish my tutorial discussions for my university course. Nearly at the end of semester and crossing fingers that I have done o.k. Hard to study now that I have babies, well now toddlers to specific.

I picked the girls up and they were wanting to stay. They love the place and have so much fun that they did not want to come home. I pretended that I was happy to leave them there. Lillian told me that that is o.k, and she said good bye to me and waved. Julia wanted to come home but was worried that sister was staying. All very hard when you have to try and get them out the door. I am currently not using the pram to take them back and forth from child care as it is such a drama to put it up and take it down for such a short journey. Plus they are getting older and like the freedom of walking.

Finally I got Julia in my arms and one of the lovely ladies Christine helped me take Lillian to the car. Yes success, we are all in the car. The girls look tired and I drive us all home. When I got home, I checked their nappies to make sure all was good, and it was o.k. so put them to bed. While doing this Lillian kept on saying no as she knows it is bed time and really wants to stay up.

I have noticed that when this happens she is most tired, and a sleep is really needed. The more they protest the more I make sure they get a nap. This might help someone else. I think when I first noticed it, it was amazing. As this has allowed me get more done.

Other than Lillian telling me she wanted to stay awake, I noticed that the growth or callicum thing on Julia’s foot as changed. It is no longer black and seems to have decreased in size. Interesting how this happens after you see the specialist. He did not do anything other than look at it and for the sake of paying $160 for the visit to have it slowly get better on it’s own is freaky timing and annoying. Don’t get me wrong, I am happy about it but wish I had not spent the money.

Now need to call the specialist and see if we need to still go to the clinic at westmead. I will call next week as I got the message late and see what we need to do. Maybe the bath helped? She has had another one since. All very strange.

Waiting in Antenatal at Nepean Hospital

When we came from Katoomba Hospital we were told that we would have an ultrasound to check the babies. As I was losing fluid they wanted to make sure that they were doing fine. Until my waters broke I had no idea that you make more, I thought that once they break and the fluid escapes so to speak then that’s it, you must have the baby or babies in my case. Well Monday came around and we did not have the scan, they forgot about us. It was then apparently scheduled for Tuesday. So more waiting …..

Monday night at the hospital was so strange. A nurse came in at 12 midnight. She asked me if I had my babies. I asked her to look at me and then tell me if I had any babies. I looked big and still very pregnant. Understand it was dark, late, and the fact that she might not have seen me before. However it just goes to show that she did not look at my chart or think to look. I then realised that I had to be on the ball with what drugs they were giving me, and what information nurses and doctors had, I had to be focused on making sure that they did not mix things up, drug wise or patient.

Once she then realised that I was still very much pregnant and waiting to have the babies, she then asked why I was on the medication she was giving me. She suggested it was due to blood pressure. I then explained that it was to not have the babies. I was still on drugs not to have them. Until I got to 34 weeks I could stop the drugs. I could not wait.

I forget the name of the drug that I had to take but it caused me to go dizzy as it lowered my blood pressure, turned my skin all red and hot, gave me the sweats and made it just uncomfortable. Some people have these reactions and I was those some people. Very annoying, as all throughout my pregnancy I never had any issues about my blood pressure it was normal, no heat problems other than earlier on in the pregnancy and every nurse that came in just assumed that I had blood pressure issues.

After the nurse went away , I tried to get some rest. This was not very successful as I then felt the strangest thing. You know how a cat scratches it’s head and really violently , it has both legs up and paws going. Well it sort of reminded me of that for some reason. It felt like the baby that was on my left side had dropped down further into my pelvis and was moving their arms, at the same time the left on did that the one on the right moved their arms I think as well. It felt very strange and don’t know how to explain it to this day.

I ended up getting rest, but was constantly woken by the nurses for more drugs, temperature and blood pressure checks.

Stay tuned for the news of the ultrasound
