I Blame the Pig!

Wet day and looks like it will be a wet week!
Wet day and looks like it will be a wet week!

The last couple of days we have had torrential rain, and it has not stopped coming down. It seems like we are set for a very wet couple of days or at the most a week or even worse the whole school holidays. Let’s hope it stops and we do get a break and can venture outside to have some fun without being soaked and a muddy mess.

Today was the last day of pre-school for the girls for term 2 and as you can imagine the rain and puddles is a draw card for kids, they just love being messy and wet! Oh the joys at trying to get wet messy kids into a car while it is pouring with rain. Not nice for mummy trying to put on their seat belts. As you can imagine, I ended up very wet, and cold.

The kids love Peppa Pig and Peppa for those that don’t know loves jumping in muddy puddles and the girls want to do just the same. Yesterday, after dance play at the local school Julia’s shoes and socks were soaked so today I made them wear their gum boots for going to and fro and had slip ons for inside the school. I did not want what happened yesterday to happen today. I was over the complaining of mummy my feet are wet, mummy I hate wet clothes, mummy my feet are cold. Oh, you chose to wear those shoes even when I told you not to! Maybe this is a life lesson, listen to mummy! I can only live in hope.

So since the kids had their gum boots on and were dressed to jump in muddy puddles they did, and got wet, muddy and soaked their pants very well indeed. I let them have their fun in the wet and mud as I do stop it a bit but thought why not. We are not far from the school and as soon as we are home I will get them changed into warm dry clothes. As you can imagine they had a blast.

Do you cringe now when you see muddy puddles? Is it all Peppa Pig’s fault? Send in your comments.

Last day for Term 2

Today is the last day of term 2 for the girls. Yes term 2 of pre-school has come to a close. After today we are on holidays, for I think a couple of weeks. Only 2 more terms left and my little babies, well not babies anymore will be off to big school next year. Yes soon I will be a mother to two kindy kids.

I am busy doing a tidy up as I have been lazy this week and not done much at all to my upset, but I am a bit out of sorts and the rainy weather does not help. I just want to go back to bed!

Are you thinking of what to do with your kids over the holidays? I know I am.

I am thinking of the following:

  • Visit the city on the train and go to the Opera House
  • Visit my sister for lunch in the city and another big adventure on the trains
  • Have play-dates with their mates from pre-school
  • Take them off to different places for adventures
  • Do craft, painting, drawing and anything else
  • Movie days
  • Cooking days
  • Go to playgroup holiday activities
  • And anything else that I can think of

What have you planned for your little ones?

Jessie J Groupies

Mummy getting into trouble for singing along with the mean girls in the song!
Mummy getting into trouble for singing along with the mean girls in the song!

My girls are now obsessed with Jessie J, this obsession started when daddy put on her music while driving home after my graduation. He had Price Tag on permanent repeat, the girls loved it, singing along, dancing in their seats and had a smile on their faces all car journey according to daddy.

Now they want to hear more and are real fans. Who knew they would be so obsessed so early, they are only four.  Every time we put on a song we get asked, “Is that Jessie J mummy/daddy?”

Julia has been interested in making up her own songs and singing for years now. She is very clever and keeps in tune, and picks some interesting lyrics (most of it is from what she has done that day or what she sees outside of the car, but it is clever and she tries to rhyme and match what comes next), Julia loves dancing, singing and performing. Who knows we might have the next star at our house?  Both the girls have told us they want to be exactly like Jessie.

Lillian does the same but Julia seems more into it than Lillian. Time will tell. Do you have groupies at your house? What are your kids into?

Jessie J reminds me of Pink, positive girl power! Overcome obstacles and achieve, just great messages for little girls and women.

While singing along to the song, “Who’s Laughing Now”,Julia told me that it is mean and I should not repeat what the girls say to Jessie! Stop it mummy I was told. What a nice girl protecting Jessie.

For example, one of the lines is: “Oh Jessie you look so funny, your teeth look just like bugs bunny” Hope I got that right.

Jessie J if you ever do read this, thanks my girls just adore you! Love Julia and Lillian.

House for Toys

The girls have taken to create houses for their toys and dolls in everything other than the dolls house. Now as you can see it is the coffee tables. This was so cute and well organised I had to take a picture of it all as I need to tidy up. I know the kids will be upset that they have to build it again but I am sure they will have fun organising it all.

Do your kids take their toys and use other things around the house as well? The dolls toys came with a dolls house for their birthday last year but as you can see they are not using the house, although they do, just not lately.

Dolls house all set up! But not in the house, another one called the coffee tables.
House is ready now!

Now off to tidy up the mess and see if I can sort out the toys. I find it sad to take it all apart as it looks like they went to a lot of trouble to sort it all out.  Send in your comments.

No Listening to Rain

It is a rainy day here and was not keen to get out of bed, it was comfy and I was very happy there. Julia came in and woke me up and then I realised that I was never going to sleep in. We have swimming lessons for the girls at 9.30am and I would like to do my aqua aerobics class at 10.30am, and then we are off to visit the girls grandad in hospital, he is fine just recovering from an operation and we are going down to make him feel better about being in hospital.

So a rainy day relaxing at home is not going to happen, we are off out and about. I just hope that the pool has fixed the hot water for showers. Last time the girls told me it was cold, another lady in the change room said the same. I am not going to be happy with having a cold shower after swimming.

Do you like lying in your bed listening to the rain? I do, and like it and even more so when you have magically made yourself super comfortable and just don’t want to leave the magical area of your bed.

I type this now after giving kids their breakfast, which they both finished so that is a miracle unto itself, I have finished some toast and now just finishing my coffee made by my lovely coffee machine.  Kids are watching ABC for Kids and I’m off to give the kitchen a quick tidy before we leave for our big day out.

Then to pack all that is needed, swimmers, towels and changes of clothes.

Have a great day everyone and hope that you are able to lie in and listen the rain.

100 Years of Motherhood

This great graphic shows the changes over the last 100 years in relation to motherhood. We were obviously on track with picking a popular name for one of our girls, however that was not the plan. We picked family names and wanted to make sure that they were the only one in the class with the name. When I went to school there were five Maria’s in the class.

Half Way

Next week is the last week of term 2 for pre-school. I had no idea it was nearly over, half way through the year already! Only two terms of pre-school left for the girls. I was rather sad to realise this, although Kindy is next year, I do like the pre-school they go to and I think the girls will miss it next year.

Have you suddenly had this realisation, that your little babies will not be long at pre-school and it is flying by. I have and I better get my skates on to do more at home for school readiness and getting school uniform supplies (with the school uniform stuff I am getting bigger sizes to make sure they will fit for next year, however as my kids are small it is hard to judge what will fit. They might have a growth spurt between now and next year, it is possible)

Do you have plans for your kids over the school holidays? I do want to travel in the city on the train with the girls, I plan to visit my sister for lunch. It will be a big day as it takes two hours each way on the train, however it will be a great adventure for the girls.

Talking about time flying, today is the shortest day of the year and after today the days get longer. This is good as it then makes me feel that we are soon to have warmer weather, although we have not really had winter yet. It has been cold and icy but not as bad as it has been. I think the next month or two it will really kick in and give us a winter.

Send in your tips for keeping kids occupied during school holidays. What have you done to help your kids get school ready?

Off Your High Beam!

Image courtesy of Feelart at FreeDigitalPhotos.net
Blurry due to the high beam! Image courtesy of Feelart at FreeDigitalPhotos.net

What is with the obsession with having your headlights on high beam all the time! Last night I nearly got run off the road by an idiot who went up the bum of my car with his/her high beam on! It was late at night, I had the twins in the car with me and due to the silly person behind me I was finding it hard to see anything at all.

Why is it fine to drive close to another car at night and with super zappy lights? What will this achieve? I could have had an accident, then would this person have stopped to help?

I always thought that high beam was meant to be used when you have no other cars around to allow you see if it is darker than normal. Why is this not causing more accidents? Why don’t police pull people over for the over using your cars high beam?

Having your high beam on makes it impossible to see and hard to do anything! I was fine once the stupid person behind me overtook me on a bend, yes on a bend! And it was not just one car there were two of them. They sped away and left me to go back to doing 80km an hour and trying to focus my eyes after staring at the sun in the dark, yes that is how it felt.

Does this happen to you? Have you felt worried about it when it happens? I was a bit worried and concerned that they were going to make me have an accident.

C’mon police please make sure that people are not harassing others with their high beam! It was scary.

Soon to be Penguins

Note: I must have been very tired when writing this post as I did have the title the other way around then changed it. The twins are going to be seals not penguins so sorry everyone. They were penguins and will go into seals for the next lessons.

The girls went to their swimming lesson this morning and we were lucky to make it. Due to a late night for the girls and also mummy and daddy we all slept in till 9am. Swimming lessons was at 9.30am so not a lot of wiggle room. Had to get kids dressed and fed and myself organised also so we could zip up to the pool and make the lesson. We were lucky and made it in time, phew! Lucky we woke when we did.

After the lesson the teacher told me that she is putting the twins up a level, so next time we book for lessons they will be seals not penguins. How amazing is that! I was beaming about this all day. It was like I got the big pat on the back and well done. Nope it was the kids well done. I explained to them about moving up a class and they are not over the moon about it. I’m sure they will be when they learn more in the next class.

Seals need more help and wear floaties, whereas penguins don’t need floatation devices and are swimming more independently. So well done girls!

Thought you might want to see some fun snaps of the kids having fun after the lesson. I am now using my zoom in the iPhone for pictures as I did not realise I could do this. Yes a sad day for a tech girl that did not know. 🙁 Hope you enjoy them.

I leave you all tonight a pleased and proud mummy that now has kids that are getting very close to swimming the pool all by themselves. 🙂

Wrong Side of the Bed?

Why is it that some mornings as soon as the kids get up they are fighting and everything is a problem! I have had one of those days today. No one listening, being naughty and then just being plain horrible.

I managed to live through this and get both kids and myself organised to leave the house to go to playgroup, if it was not for me needing to go to the post office I might have left playgroup today as kids were not deserving it at all.

It was not even 9am this morning and I was already over the day, and pinning for bedtime! Why oh why can’t the girls be nice to each other! One wanted to build a cubby house in the living room and was insistent on how she was building it. I was telling her that it would not work as she had a wooden board and every time she attempted to get underneath it fell down. No matter how she tried it kept on doing the same thing. The other child was upset that her sister would not allow her to join in so she was making her cubby house on the lounge.

The girl who was making hers on the lounge ended up getting the sister who did not want to help to help her. Then it was chaos. Also previous to the cubby building today they were at each other like they have had no sleep.

Do you have days like this? Your kids are at each other although they have just gotten up. In my opinion they should be rested and happy about the day, but I know everyone has moody days and feels differently. It is very hard to maintain your up beat nature or happy mummy vibe if each moment you turn around a kid is hurting the other. Oh the day I have had.

Currently the twins are watching Rango and are very quiet. Both girls are cuddled next to each other and have not heard a peep out of them since I put it on. So well done mummy for that small win.

I do try and separate the girls so they can do different things rather than be so caught up with the others activity. However it does get hard with limited space in a small house and of course the fact that they want to be together.

What do you do to stop squabbles with your kids? Send in your comments.

Through Others Eyes

Do you sometimes have moments or days that you feel like a failure. I know I do! Sometimes it is hard to see that you are doing a good job. However my little girls are the best score card, they are well behaved when it counts, clever and doing very well in all areas. I do wish they would eat more, but that is another whinge! What helps you feel like you are winning? Send in your tips to make you feel better when you are down.

It is sometimes hard to think you are doing a good job until another person points it out to you. Have you found this also? It has happened to me on many occasions. What about you?

Queen’s Birthday Long Weekend

Not the Queen of Australia but the Queen of our household. Was crowned by Princess Julia.
Not the Queen of Australia but the Queen of our household. Was crowned by Princess Julia.

Happy Queen’s Birthday, although the Queen has already celebrated her birthday in April. In Australia we honour the Queen’s birthday in June. What are you doing this long weekend? I am ill due to kids giving me what they had. The girls seem to be on the mend but I think going back to bed at some stage might be helpful.

I did have plans to do many things, but think a lazy day at home with the family is in order. What about you?

We did manage to get to swimming for the girls yesterday due to them feeling better, and then we got hubby and the girls hair cut and purchased some more skivvies and pants for the girls. They are getting longer but still small and had to get size 3 pants with adjustable waists as they are tiny. The problem is that I need the length now but the larger sizes fall off them due to skinny waists so a tie or adjustable waist is needed.

Off to have a late breakfast and get motivated to do things around the house. Hope you all have a wonderful long weekend and if you don’t have a public holiday have a great day.

What if I was paid?

I wish mums would get paid for all that they do. Alas this is not so. So what would the amount look like like if we were paid a wage? What do you think you would earn if you were paid a wage/salary?  Check out this great infographic below:

Cuddles make you better

The last week Julia has not been well and ended up with a fever Thursday night and Friday day. She is much better now! Yes you say, but now Lillian is ill and has thrown up… I know just when I thought we were on the mend.

Last Thursday night Julia woke screaming very loudly and would not stop. She said that there was a monster in her room. She was overheating, and just boiling. We gave her some painkillers, cold water, and a cuddled her and of course she and sister wanted to stay in mummy and daddies bed as they did not want a repeat performance of the monster. Friday night was not great as she was still out of sorts, but at least they started in their beds but Julia was up and down all night.

I am pleased that Julia is feeling better and hope that this bug is only bad for a couple of days as what has happened with Julia. Going out this weekend might not be something we can do but at least it is the weekend when we are all home to help them get better.  More cuddles the better right?

I did have plans to go off and get the kids hair trimmed and neaten up at the hairdresser but that can wait. I also wanted to go off to the shops down the mountain, but again this can wait. Not sure if we will be all well for swimming again this week as we missed last week as well. 🙁

Has your house been inundated with sickness already? Winter has just started and kids have been ill. Hoping it all goes away soon! I have been the chief cuddler in the house and it is nice, but would be even nicer to not have kids ill. Don’t get me wrong, having a nice cuddle with my little munchkins is so lovely but it is even better when people are well.

Officially Enrolled!

Today I enrolled my wonderful girls into big school for next year, yes Kindy is next year. Where does the time go, and in a couple of months they will be five!

About to enroll @ big school
About to enroll @ big school
Waiting for our celebration lunch
Waiting for our celebration lunch

I took the girls off to a celebration lunch to mark the day, I thought it was important as it is a big thing enrolling for Kindy. Note my grown up little girls waiting for their lunch patiently, I must say that after we left the restaurant they were not so patient and I could do with them still napping as I have a headache.

It is official, all paperwork is in at the school, all documents have been sighted and we are officially enrolled into the big school.  I am a bit sad at enrolling them but also to excited, as it is the next big step in their education and life. Were you sad when you enrolled your kids at big school? Is it just me that is getting teary? O>K, off to do something less likely to make me cry, the washing!

Same Classroom?

This infographic addresses an important issue. To separate your twins at school or not? Hubby wants to separate the girls but I think they would be miserable without each other.  The girls are so close and as it is a major change I feel we let them be together, we will monitor it and see how they go and the interests of each child. What are your thoughts?

Mess be Gone!

Have you been faced with a lot to do and not a lot of time to do it in. Well that is my day today. My main aim to is to sort the clothes and put it all away. Make some space in the spare room and put new sheets on the beds. Other things, tidy living room and kitchen up a bit. Other places might have to wait.

Clothes to be sorted and put away
Clothes to be sorted and put away

Hard when you are not feeling 100% to get energized to clean and tidy. However I have two kids at school and I want to get it done. So the messy picture soon will be a nice clean room!

So a short post today as I have millions of things to be doing… I know exaggeration but I am sure there a lots.
