Choose Wellness

by

Would you like to live a healthier and a happier life? I know I would, and I do my best to make sure that I am looking after myself. After taking the Nestlé Choose Wellness Quiz I know there are areas that I could do better at; For me it is sleep and exercise. What about you?

Do you eat a good variety of vegetables and fruit?

Do you eat breakfast every day?

How many hours of sleep do you get?

Do you manage to exercise? How often does this happen?

I try and make sure that I incorporate fruits, grains, vegetables and all sorts of yummy healthy food into my diet and also the families. I do try with the kids but they are super fussy, and yes I’ve hidden food in other food to just make sure they eat it.

I was told ages ago that “you should eat the colours of the rainbow”. This means that you are having a wide variety of vitamins and nutrients. Whenever I make a stir-fry or anything really I try and add as many different coloured vegetables as possible. The more the merrier!

Brightly coloured and yummy vegetables ready to be added to the stir fry. YUM!

You too can take the Nestlé Choose Wellness Quiz and see how you are doing.

Before kids I was super active. I used to go walking one day for hours, then the next I might do some aqua aerobics and then the next be at the gym. As you can see I liked to stay active. However, being very busy with little kids and having extra places to be plus things to do, means that I find that there is little time to exercise.

I’m sure that I’m not the only mum out there that has found this. It just means that I need to be a little more creative with how I get my exercise these days.

What do I do to incorporate more exercise into my day:

  • If I’m pushing the baby in the pram I take the long way round to the car or where I am going.
  • Park further away and walk to the shops
  • Always use the stairs (this is now only on the condition that I don’t have the baby in the pram. If I am carrying him we use the stairs, if in pram I try and use the ramp as it makes life so much easier)
  • Housework is a good workout. All the back and forth walking, bending and stretching is a good workout.
  • Now the baby is wanting to do acrobatic moves on me. He loves being upside down on my legs. He lays down while I move my legs up and down. The weight of the baby and lifting off the ground gives the legs a good work out.
  • Shopping and carrying the bags into the house and also to the car from the supermarket.
  • Picking up and carrying around a baby is a good work out for the arms.

    I’d like to prioritise time to do nothing. Why do we have to be so busy? I’d just like time to stop and ponder and enjoy doing as little as possible.

    I make Happiness a priority. Having suffered from depression I can see that Healthy Eating & Exercise are more likely to be achieved when you are happy 🙂

    Exercise. Those fabulous endorphins that come from building up a sweat help with happiness, and mean a little less guilt when I sneak in the occasional treat (okay, it’s a nightly Kit-Kat, sue me). I’d love to be able to prioritise some structured exercise and be a better role model to the kids in this regard. While things are so hectic, I’ll just have to settle for running around after the toddlers.

    Definitely happiness. It’s been a bit of a roller coaster of a year; I chase the kids around for exercise and we eat pretty well but I find feeling blue a bit of a downer. Would love to be happier so the kids are also happier.

    My priority at the moment is improving my overall health and happiness. We have a special needs child so there is literally no time to be sick and being so busy it’s so easy to get worn down. I’d love to have an extra hour a day to have a walk to clear my head.

    Honestly I think it’s a combination of all of the above. We need to exercise our bodies and eat good food to feel good, which results in happiness. I’m focusing on reaching my daily steps and drinking more water to keep hydrated. It’s amazing what a difference treating your body well makes both physically and mentally.

    I need to make more time for exercise as I feel flat, lathargic and unfit. The time is there, it’s a matter of raising its priority.

    I’d like to make exercise a priority. I feel good about myself apart from my fitness. Exercising everyday will not only help me feel fitter but will also clear my mind, help me sleep and set a good example to my kids.

    Exercise = healthier body
    Happiness = healthier mind
    Healthy Food = healthier insides

    Put all three together, I feel fine. When I don’t, it feels like a crime!!!! 🙂

    Family time,
    I want to make that a priority because time travels too fast and before you know it the kids will be “too cool” to spend time with us.

    Making time to do all these things – prepare healthier and a variety of meals, that will give me the energy to then exercise more – it’s a never ending circle for m!

    I can’t control everything in my life but I can control what I put into my body. Healthy food and being healthy leads to a healthy body and mind which in turn leads to happiness, – it’s an holistic approach and that should be a priority.

    As a Mum, it’d hard to make everything a priority. It’s like a circus act because you’ve got to juggle everything and make sure things don’t fall flat in your face. While having happiness, exercise and healthier food are all important as they’re all encompassing, I’d have to pick having healthier food as my top priority. This is because a healthy diet nourishes the body and mind, and makes a happy and healthy child. A happy child is more likely to be motivated to exercise. As the saying goes, you are what you eat. Eating healthy is essential to a healthy lifestyle in order to prevent childhood obesity. Happiness and health would follow suit!
