Be Healthy & Active with Nestlé

Do you try and pick healthy foods to eat at home? What about for the kids school lunches? I do and I’m sure everyone else is the same. I do let the kids have a treat every know and then, but these treats are sometimes foods and we don’t have them all the time, for example chocolate or a biscuit.

However as I have fussy eaters, keeping the lunch box interesting and also for meal times are a HUGE challenge. Not only is it a challenge to think about what to serve the kids that they will actually eat, I also worry if they are getting the vitamins and nutrition that their bodies need.

There are some great recipes on the Nestle Healthy Active Kids website that might help add some interest to dinners and lunches. Have you given them a go? Do your kids love them? I am keen to give them a go.

I do strive to make sure that the kids are eating healthy and I do try to showcase a wide range of foods with the hope that they will eat or at least see hubby and I eat them and therefore it will slowly rub off on the kids.

The lovely people at Nestlé sent me a pack about their Healthy Active Kids program.  They have seen my passion about ensuring kids are healthy and are eating right. If kids don’t have the right fuel they cannot do well at school. Making sure they have the best start is super important. Plus I’m sure the teachers will be very thankful that they have full bellies so that they can concentrate on their work and learn.

So what was in the pack that the fab foodies at Nestlé sent? Check the list below for the goodies:

  • 2 plates that show you the quantities and what you should be eating. Basically it is showing kids and adults the portion sizes that we need to be healthy.
  • An apron to encourage kids to get cooking.
  • A booklet that shows what makes a healthy lunch box and that gives you ideas for what foods are in season when, plus it also gives tips to be active.

Do you like to send the kids off to school with a healthy packed lunch? What do you like to pack? Mine is a sandwich, some fruit, yoghurt and maybe some vegetables. Let us know what you like to add to your little ones lunches.

What do you do as a family to encourage being healthy and active?

We make sure to take the kids on bush walks, bike riding as a family and I always like to park my car away from where we are meant to be. This way I have to walk further and it adds exercise to my day.

Learn about some ways to incorporate more movement and activity to your day.

The chicken wrap is so yummy there is no waiting to eat it.

Do your little ones love to help in the kitchen? Mine do. Research has shown that if kids help to cook their own meals or just give a helping hand they are more likely to make healthier choices.

Thanks: I would like to thank Nestlé for giving me the wonderful portion plates to try and the fabulous book about making school lunches more interesting and of course healthy.

When we cook together I notice my family are more likely to eat tea, so I try and introduce fresh fruit and vegetables and get them to taste them while we are cooking. Plus the local dog park is a great place to play and run around!

Cook together dishes with that healthy twist,
The kids have so much fun, simply cannot resist,
Play outside, walk each day, a pleasure,
Doing things together as a family, a moment I treasure.

We always eat organic fruit and vegetables from our garden .. We love that we can pick straight from the plant and nothing has been sprayed on it .. We have chooks that feed our plants and vegetables and give us fresh free range eggs each day .. We walk, cycle, play and find new things to accomplish all the time

Teaching children to cook and grow food is a great way for them to get enthused with food. Leading by example, show them its fun to exercise and eat healthy. Bike riding is fun, and so many tracks to make it educational with a healthy picnic at the end.

I am really trying to get my kids into eating healthier, my oldest has a weight issue and I am trying to help him with out making him self conscious, the plate that shows the correct portions would be the ideal tool to help him, he struggles with portion control and is a visual thinker it could really make a difference in his life.

We go to farmers markets together and explore. Everyone chooses their own fruits and vegetables to bring home. We walk the dog together and find fun ways to be active like ball games in the yard, racing each other and dancing around the lounge room!

We always walk or ride to school and I teach them about food groups and what they need to be healthy. If they want a treat we make it ourselves so they can appreciate how much sugar is involved!

We encourage the kids to be involved with cooking and meal prep
it not only shows them exactly what they are eating but they learn along the way about what is in season and how it helps them grow

I have four children and I think the secret to healthy eating is to get the children involved cooking, preparing and suggesting what is on the menu for the family if they help out they will eat their own creations
